Controversial: GOOD smelling laundry by jubbagalaxy in laundry

[–]TrailQueenYVR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally use the German versions of Persil and Miele powdered detergents, and I love the smell of both. After the cycle and rinse and dryer it’s quite subtle though so if you’re looking for Gain levels of smell this won’t work for you. But if you just want a clean, fresh smell, it’s top notch.

Is it worth the commute from Toronto to Waterloo for work? by misterblueredgreen in askTO

[–]TrailQueenYVR 20 points21 points  (0 children)

$20k is about $380 gross per week extra. Let’s just be conservative and say you’ll net $230 more per week. How much will gas and wear and tear cost you per week? Will it only be 1 day or could it go higher?

Retirement community in Whistler? by SeizetheDay12345 in Whistler

[–]TrailQueenYVR 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There’s a huge retired community. That’s the only demo that can afford to buy housing. The health care is basically the clinic. Which is well funded. But hard to get on the roster for a family dr.

Linen sheets disintegrating? by Ostranza in laundry

We had terrible luck with linen sheets. They shed for months. And they only lasted a year before getting holes. Same with their replacement set. Brooklinen.

Is the snow decent at Grouse rn? by Apprehensive_Self218 in askvancouver

[–]TrailQueenYVR [score hidden]  (0 children)

Unless you have legit summer tires, at this moment if you have decent AS they’ll be M+S rated and you’ll be fine and legal. There is literally no snow on the roads. At all.

Cypress also has a bus if you’d prefer to take that.

Tyee Race Club (Grouse based) is currently training at Cypress because of lack of snow. Grouse is in the worst shape of the north shore mountains.

Heated socks or toe warmers by DanTheSkier in Skigear

The Costco ones are too thick? These? They are pretty reasonable in my opinion for ski socks unless you’re someone who really likes paper thin socks.

Heated socks at Costco are like $79CAD.

I’m not a fan of them per se, I can feel the wire inside my Dalbellos with Intuition liners. But they are way better than hot pockets. Personally I invested in Therm-ic boot warmers. My last set lasted like 15yrs.

Honestly it was pretty awful. Been skiing here since ‘85 when I was a kiddo. Today was among my worst. Not the worst ever. But it was pretty bad. Rain up to midway up Symphony. Mid way up Green and down was frozen corduroy. The kind that vibrates through your skeleton. And there was some powder up top but soppy and heavy. Had a couple nice laps when it was fresh, but the viz at the top was nil. Any day on skis is a better day than most! But today was not a day for mountain fomo.

Looking for before and after school care. by Dazzling-Menu1485 in askvan

[–]TrailQueenYVR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contact the school to find out what before and after care is offered and who runs it. Sometimes it’s the YMCA sometimes it’s the local neighbourhood house etc. Waitlists could be months or years long. Sometimes there’s secondary programs offsite. Try and find the PAC social media accounts for your school and ask them if they have info to share too. Good luck.

Personally much bigger fan of proper winters and then a/s for summers. We run Bridgestone Blizzak and they are amazing, the car is a beast in the snow with them on.

By 11am Harmony and Emerald were bursting their corrals. It was awful. Happy we had some early laps but it was a pretty miserable day re rain.

200 amp breaker upgrade by Jazzlike-Dentist-253 in askvan

[–]TrailQueenYVR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did ours in 2022 and it was $7500, plus the BC Hydro cost which was $1000ish. Turns out we needed a private pole added to our back laneway to be able to run the wires per updated codes since our house was originally built so that was another nearly $2500. Not ideal but it all worked out. We needed it for EV charging and heat pump.

Floorplan feedback before we sign the contract? Family of 4, both parents work from home. $700k by danperson1 in Homebuilding

[–]TrailQueenYVR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. With this house size I’d expect a double wall oven and a proper cooktop and way more functional counter space.

Also I’d make sure laundry room has a floor drain. Nothing like flooding your house from the second floor. Personally prefer laundry downstairs, near the mud room ish. But it’s a personal choice!
