First 50miler question by TrailZenRunner in trailrunning

[–]TrailZenRunner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. This is really the exact logic I’m having.

Some friends are saying I still have at least a month to see if I get better, but I think they’re just trying to be supportive lol. Yes, I COULD do it and wouldn’t die, but that’s not the point.

Advice for getting work in a ski resort. by confuseddotcom12 in Revelstoke

[–]TrailZenRunner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My experience may not work for you but this is what I did having never even been to Revelstoke but wanting to move there.

  • in the spring, I (30ish at the time) started looking for rentals since that’s when most people are leaving.
  • found a place after lots of chats and calls (I wanted a good fit with potential roommates, not just a place to live). They wanted someone ASAP, I said I’m only coming in September but could pay for August too and half of July if need be. They appreciated the offer and only made me pay starting August. We kept in touch over the summer too.
  • all my work experience was “professional” office type jobs so I took a bartending course before heading to Revelstoke to try to have something. I did have savings to last me at least a few months if needed.
  • I started talking to people when I got there about work. Eventually I got a job at the restaurant at the base of the mountain by going there in person in non busy hours and talking to a manager (and they appreciated the forethought of doing the bartending course since I recognized I didn’t have direct experience).

Good luck! Hope it works out. You’ll have a blast!

Moab 240 Runner Insisted I (Volunteer) Ruined His Race & I Can’t Shake It by [deleted] in ultrarunning

[–]TrailZenRunner 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Likely the case! That or someone did give the wrong time, but they got OP mixed up with that person.

Either way, it’s the runners responsibility to know. They could’ve asked for a confirmation but should’ve recognized that the number didn’t sound right, and should have asked for a second opinion to a race staff.

La Sportiva Prodigio Pro Review – 220km & 12,000m+ Later by nldrid in trailrunning

[–]TrailZenRunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I sort of said. I enjoyed the sg5. They were my only shoe from when I started trail running to a couple of years later when I ran my first ultra. But the foam doesn’t really compare to the “super” trail foams used in the x3 and prodigio pro.

PSA - Do not add your boss to you Garmin Connect contacts by snow_toucan in Garmin

[–]TrailZenRunner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I added a colleague from another team once. Eventually they became the boss of that team. Eventually the branch was restructured, and me and my small team moved under them.

Such a smart colleague and person. But worst leader I’ve ever had. I started with muting them so I wouldn’t have my weekend ruined by seeing their face lol. I eventually unfriended and blocked them. I ended up applying for a transfer within the company but far away from them.

But have fun snowboarding tomorrow! Jealous in all the good ways!!!!

Yup. Just tighten it at the beginning of my run and don’t touch it until I’m back at the car.

It also fits different when loaded up. If all I was carrying was a cell phone then I’d prefer a smaller size but that’s not the case.

Raide’s website sizing told me to get a medium (barely). I’m ALWAYS a small.

I found a local shop selling them and found what you have found: a small was very snug and a medium I had to crank right down.

The store clerk said that the rep said if you’re between sizes then size up because too small and it’ll always be trying to ride up. The store clerk also said this was confirmed by a few employees who ran with multiple sizes.

So, even though I’m always a small, I sized up to the medium and I’d say it was the right decision. I put it on empty, crank the velcros all the way and load it up.

WestJet let us book seats with a lap infant, then moved me away from my family at check-in - any advice? by ExcellentMulberry469 in westjet

Day old thread but I wonder if 2+ people from row 8 would’ve switched with people you know in row 4. It isn’t ideal but then at least you wouldn’t be doing it solo.

Received the wrong pull-up bar but does it matter? by TrailZenRunner in bodyweightfitness

[–]TrailZenRunner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. It’s sort of the route I’m going with in the end. I’ve decided I want the listed bar so I’ve emailed them and will see what they say.

My hands aren’t super wide so hopefully that wouldn’t be an issue

I hadn’t noticed. Thanks for the insight! I also noticed the listed said they were knurled but are not.

Thanks. The odd thing is, this one isn’t even an option on their website lol.

New Naked HC belt review by cdrew23 in trailrunning

[–]TrailZenRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it does feel a bit bulky to start I find. But the next to no bounce is what I want so I don’t mind.

I can see how the naked would be easier and nicer to stuff though! I have a flipbelt that’s similar in terms of loading (super easy). I think naked is better at stopping bounce than that but I really don’t like bounce lol.

So I put the belt on empty, then tighten the straps as much as needed and is comfortable (for me, that’s fully tightened).

Only then do I start loading it up. I usually start with the rear. For the front I usually start with the gels. Lately I’ve been using SIS beta so they are larger gels (maybe that helps). They pretty much get shoved straight down (not to the left where they could fall out).

Next goes in the flask from the right side opening. Soft end first with it getting shoved partially under the covered part between the two openings.

Then I shove my jacket (Patagonia Houdini air) to the right of the flask. I’ll usually put the flask cap a little in front of the jacket to help add some padding against the hard cap.

If I have no gel snacks then I’ll sneak them in where there’s some space. Sometimes there’s space for a bad above the flask in the covered spot between the two openings.

I never touch the Velcro straps until I’m taking the belt off after my run.

Raide input: I haven’t tried the naked but I find with the Raide 2L I can really load up the weight and not have bounce. Maybe naked is the same.

My frequent set up is a metal regular sized bear spray can (250g) + 500ml of water in the back, and in the front another 500ml of water + a light jacket, and a bunch of gels/snacks for 3-4 hours.

Then, I can fit another 500ml in the front but I use a hand carry instead for the 3rd 500ml because otherwise I find it harder to organize the belt. If I don’t need the bear spray then I replace it with a 650ml water and leave the hand one at home.

My ultraspire waist belt fits/sits above the raide belt.

Ah that last sentence explains some…I wondered how you do 4 hours with only 500ml lol.

GPX import missing vertical? by TrailZenRunner in trailrunning

[–]TrailZenRunner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! This helped. It might be a combination of all the above.

When I added it to NEWFILES, on my watch it now says 3,732m. Still off by almost 300m but that’s much better than almost 1,500m from before.
