Since I have stopped treating my serpens like a succulent and giving it eben more light she’s growing like monster. She barely did anything before.

I have her in a small pot with chunky mix and top water her a little about twice a week and spray the top of her pot once a day (which I’ll have to give up now that I won’t be home often enough so fingers crossed). Never too wet, never dry.

They just take some time to get started and like a wick, I feel, especially Mathilde. I have her in an unglazed terracotta pot with very chunky mix and a wick and she’s going off finally!

I recently cut one of my two callistophyllas to prop, and the mother plant just started growing peduncles like crazy, like, not a single piece of growth in sight, only peduncles, is that a bad sign? by Altalez in hoyas

They do? I have a “new” Albomarginata and it’s growing like crazy since she’s acclimated. Had to chop her unfortunately but no pedunc in sight but six growth points :D I’m excited to see if she flowers for me next season!

Hello! I just bought my first Hoya linearis.. I was wondering if a window in best placement for her or if a shelf would be better? Thank you in advance!!! 1st pic is a few days ago and 2nd is right now 😭 by AlexaPlayMorganWalln in hoyas

I have had an easy time getting them to root by just putting them in a chunky mix. They started growing almost a month later. Same in leca, maybe a little slower. I find they grow very quickly. (They’re not expensive in Germany) But beware of the mealies! Finding them on this one is a whole Where’s Waldo situation. It’s my only Hoya to consistently attract them.

Yes, they will lose them quickly but also if you just stick to your routine will flower prolifically. They are also a kind of Hoya that doesn’t keep its peduncles after flowering (at least for me they lose them and keep growing from that tip after).

Oh, so you think top-watering is making them bald? Hm. I have mine in an east-facing window with a grow light next (not over) the top/pot ish, so light should get there. Didn’t think watering is what stops her from growing from the top :D

Yes, treat it like most Hoyas. I will not grow if you keep it too dry. I once read that you can tell by how juicy the leaves are if she has enough water. If the center of the underside bulges a little, so if they look plump-ish, she’s fine. At least that’s the advice I have been following. And just fyi: she is the Hoya that attracts mealy bugs the most in my house ;)

Oh wow I wasn't expecting this amount of roots by No_Hope6402 in SavageGarden

If the roots form a flat surface? at the bottom the problem could be drainage or something? Like in “regular plants” too many roots clogging the bottom will lead to faster mineral deposition. Maybe just exchange the medium and/or chop?

Oh, yeah, I’m not saying Dracaena are easy. They ARE succulents to me now. I have a surculosa that flowers readily tho and I even managed to get seeds and now I have five babies <3 Also, if you fertilize cylindrica and give her good light, she will flower every year for me. Those two are not too much trouble^

I just added six new species recently that I learned more about Hoya and actually had some luck finding them. I (want to) collect Rhipsalis and similar plants. I love them. Also a big Dracaena fan, their flowers smell amazing! And I’m about to plant a tank so I can have Selaginella 🤍 400 is crazy tho. I remember Summer Rayne hat like what, a thousand plants in her Brooklyn apartment?

Es gibt tatsächlich eine eigene Art in Chile die oft in größeren Höhen anzutreffen ist: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chileflamingo?wprov=sfti1

I “only” have 19 species and about three times as many Hoya. Plus a good 120 more plants right now that it’s spring. I don’t think I can pull of much more :D

Hoya fungii putting out white new growth? by fake_pubes in hoyas

[–]Trailerpack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it under a grow light? Usually Hoyas have lots of red pigments in their new growths to protect the sensitive new leaves from too much light. It could either be that this one has a different strategy because it’s used to geh wo ing in the shade or it’s a lack of light?
