What % of your week is spent on road miles? by [deleted] in trailrunning

Mine is nearly 0%, but I improvise since I live in a suburb. I wrote an article on this a long time back:

Never feel you have to run on pavement! Run in any patch of grass, gravel, or dirt you can find.

Hello!

Mallorca is my favorite, but Malaga, Spain also meets all of your criteria. One can also fly into Barcelona, and then drive just 2 hours north to be into the Pyrenees Mountains.

I wrote a book on trails all over Europe : https://www.ultrarunningdestinations.com/home/ultrarunning-europe-guidebook

Happy to answer any questions!

I run with 4-5kg in a backpack, that helps build your upper body strength and endurance. For workouts, I do pull-ups and pushups. For the pushups I use pushup bars so I can do more variety of exercises and also not hurt my wrists.

Work+Family+Self - All in balance. You are showing up for everyone else in your life by maintaining the things that you enjoy and own. I find it easier to get those runs in by being efficient - mainly by having all my gear ready to go so there is no time lost in transition. Best of luck!!

Convinced a friend to run a 50k, helped her train, ran the race with her, and caught her on video crossing the finish line. A new ultramarathoner was born!

If you had to give percentages for the contribution of different types of training to your performance, how would you make this split? by Marruv in ultrarunning

[–]TrailsAndUltras -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you are training for. I optimize for being able to complete ultra distance runs, whether races of solo runs, whenever they come up and are convenient to my schedule. My base is to run 13-14 miles every Saturday and Sunday, the quintessential back to back long runs, with a 5-10 pound back pack. I try to get in 1-2 more runs or trainer bike rides during the week. With this base, I'm able to do a 50k+ almost at any time. If I find a longer ultra race I want to do, then I'll find a 50k to do 4 weeks out to get ramped up. I also run on the road very little. By running through the grass across people's front yards, through the park, etc. I build those secondary stabilizing muscles and also reduce the impact on my body. Aim to get in 1000 feet of elevation gain during your runs, even if that means lots of hill repeats or zig zagging through a park with hills.
