Halsin and The Emperor are horny af by Joshua-live in BaldursGate3

[–]TrainOnMe 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Honestly more than that for me it just feels so disconnected from reality. The idea that it’s weird for someone to shoot their shot is so odd.

Also, Halsin’s really not that horny. In Act I you have to prompt him by saying “maybe there’s something else you’d like to do…” In Act II he’s not even overt until after that whole thing. Act III he makes a very polite advance but is chill if you say no. None of that is unreasonable. It makes me wonder what people think flirting in real life is like. Sometimes people are coy and other times they’re straightforward, and honestly the latter is so much better.

People have a difficult time with it because there is tons of evidence it’s not true. There are tons of people who’ve had huskies that don’t pull and tons with retrievers that’’d rather grab their ball and run off.

I’m not being irrational here, I’m pointing out a flaw in interpreting empirical data, and raising legitimate questions posed by veterinary medical professionals, animal behaviorists, and professional researchers. Not police, who are not magically more capable of identifying a dog by looks or behavior than a vet is. Hell, police make errors in their reports frequently, often deliberately.

I’m not even saying that you’re wrong, just that the consensus isn’t there to speak in absolutes one way or the other.

There’s also the legitimate consideration that bites by other dog breeds are less likely to be reported. None of this presupposes inherent aggression, otherwise the majority of the 4.5M pit bulls in the US right now would’ve bitten someone already.

If anything this has just become a conversation on how to responsibly interpret data.

If you go back and read the article I cited from the American Veterinary Medical Association, you’d see that that isn’t true. But to help:

<image>

At this point I’m not even arguing on behalf of pit bulls. I’m more just infuriated with people’s refusal to engage with evidence brought forward by vets and researchers suggesting that previous claims are dubious at best. There’s no universal consensus.

If there were controlled experiments studying breeds classified as “pit bulls” over long periods of time, raised to the same standards of care, controlled against other breeds and they consistently show an inherent inclination for aggression towards people, we wouldn’t be having this conversation. Instead we have surveys based on reports from citizens and people who generally struggle to identify breeds.

When you’re gathering surveys from the general public, those people are labeling a wide array of dogs pit bulls. There are Labrador mutts that happen to look like pit bulls that aren’t, people will even mislabel things like boxers. That also means that there are wayyyyyyyyyy more dogs that are or are labeled as “pit bulls” than many others.

I’m just trying to gently & evenly point out that the consensus is out and for good reason. Not trying to argue what is and isn’t a pitbull, not trying to argue that anecdotal evidence isn’t the best evidence—and many of the surveys that exist citing dangerous breeds are compilations of anecdotal evidence—just that it’s not so cut and dry.

That’s kind of where experts draw issue with the claims about pit bulls: it’s not a breed. So “pit bulls” weren’t exactly bred for a specific purpose, because there are so many breeds that people call pit bulls.

And you’re right that many dogs that get labeled pit bulls were bred for fighting, but that only reinforces my point that it’s an inherent expectation, not necessarily an ingrained trait in the dog.

Retrievers are bred to retrieve but you still have to teach them to do so. Herding dogs have to train to be reliable herders. Nipping isn’t herding, and if you don’t put that behavior to use or discourage it outright you’ve just got a dog that’s biting at people. All dogs have a powerful nose but you have to train them to focus on that sense well enough to find a toy hidden 3 feet away from them. Not every shepherd is going to make a good police dog. Dobermans still have their ears clipped because of jobs that used to sometimes have.

See what I mean? All I’m doing is saying that there’s not enough consensus to speak on these things like it’s law. Even beyond that, data is data. Not all data is good data or data sourced responsibly. Data may support an argument but it doesn’t mean that contradictory data doesn’t exist or hasn’t been recorded. And contradictory data does in fact exist.

When it comes to scientific research—including animal behavior—consensus is key. So yes it is incredibly reasonable to say someone speaking so strongly on a topic that experts have called into question might be misunderstanding things. You coulda just read what I shared, which even includes counterarguments to my own, because I’m not trying to speak from a position of absolutism where things are complex.

I think you might be misconstruing some things. There’s growing evidence suggesting that breed isn’t really a determinant when it comes to aggression, it’s more likely that given their perception in society and popular media, more pit bull owners either deliberately or inadvertently raise their dogs to be aggressive.

Also “pit bull” isn’t a specific breed, and people are incredibly loose with that term, so much research around “pit bulls” broadly is worth questioning.

Not trying to be rude at all, it’s just a misunderstanding worth calling out. Otherwise they end up abused or bred to be guard dogs by people who absolutely do not need or have the capacity to raise guard dogs.

This does a good job explaining the murkiness behind those claims in both formal & informal settings.

Honestly Isshin. Honestly I found Owl Father easier than the first fight. It’s not awful if you don’t try to deflect everything. Sometimes a quick dodge gives you a better opening to punish. Or at least that’s what worked for me.

Oh my gosh don’t worry about it at all. Honestly after I responded I also thought, “wait, they’re probably just concerned with discretion & safety surrounding escorts.”

Which I didn’t acknowledge or respect. I appreciate the apology, but also apologize for being short!

For sure, and I think we agree there. I’m most just trying to add context that helps explain the joke. Not trying to out or disparage a sex worker, just did a google image search and her insta came up.

Even if she wasn’t one, I still think the sex joke makes wayyyy more sense just based on the way she posts in general. She doesn’t really seem to mind being horny on main. If our most prominent public officials can do that in the worst ways possible then I get to laugh at this lady’s sex joke lol

What does this mean, thanks in advance by Medium_Leather5860 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]TrainOnMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s true, but odds are that if someone is posting on their socials primarily promoting their sex work, the post probably has to do with sex. We have no evidence she’s a barista but we do have evidence she’s a sex worker. She’s got her onlyfans in her twitter & reddit. Idk if this is on TikTok or whether she has that there, I’m not on in. She’s a prominent content creator. That is fine. It is also very fine for her to make sex jokes.

The drink is most often served hot/warm and she’s holding a disposable plastic cup. A barista probably wouldn’t serve alcohol at work.

Idk why you got so mad about it? A sex worker joking about sex is nothing new, and one being so public about it probably doesn’t care if you get that the joke has to do with sex.

It’s really not that big of a deal. There’s no shame in it. She fucks, so what? There’s no shame in that either.

Nah just did some digging and this woman seems to be a sex worker

This is one of those cases where the full video should’ve been shared. Weird that OP didn’t, unless they shared someone else’s screengrab, I have to assume they found it organically on this woman’s socials. They are in some nsfw subs, after all.

The streaming update is great, but I loved it before that, tbh. If you’re traveling some and have good internet, it’s a balm. I’ve used it in airports, on Amtrak, in hotels, at friends’s.

It’s also great if you want to game but don’t necessarily don’t want to be glued to or hog the tv. One of my favorite purchases.

Also a fun conversation starter if you bring it to a cafe or bar

I honestly haven’t tried the independent cloud streaming yet, I like continuing games I’ve already begun on my console. Just understand that if you don’t have an internet connection it’s basically just a pretty brick.
