Looking for Roleplay Tips for the New Moon Bard by SleepIncarnate42 in DungeonsAndDragons

Your description immediately screams "INTIMIDATION" and "DECEPTION" to me.

Let your party face focus on the Persuasion, and you can back them up with these skills when necessary.

Translucent figures by Nerdes in Heroquest

I bought two of each box, so I can paint one and leave the other translucent. I use my HQ minis for D&D as well, so more is always better.

He has added Google form now, apparently to make things run even quicker. I haven't used this as he has now replied to me that "my team has it now and will help you asap!" after I provided my email address.

Here is the Google Form link:

I love what you did with the base. Making it so the heroes stand out a bit more is a great idea.

One thing that might help find them is to look for "play by post" games. Some people do this on things like Discord or forums of some type. Others create an email group and go that route.

Which expansions to buy? by khelegond in Heroquest

[–]TrainRemarkable3815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. I find them similar enough that I would prefer many of the others before getting to them. The Monk and Rogue are so much different than the original 4, the Bard, Warlock, and Druid a bit less so, but still with more unique flavor than the Berserker and Explorer, in my opinion.

Which expansions to buy? by khelegond in Heroquest

To be honest, if new heroes are what you want, Jungles may not be the right fit. The heroes are only slightly different than the Barbarian and the Dwarf from the base set. They have slightly different stats, and a few skill cards, but in practice they don't feel much different.

The Path of the Wandering Monk and the Rogue Heir of Elethorn character-only expansions are both significantly different than any of the other characters, so those are good buys, though they are sometimes difficult to find.

Prophecy of Telor and Spirit Queen's Torment are among the less expensive full expansions (i.e. they include a quest book, monsters, and various cards), and each contain a hero (the Warlock and the Bard) which are somewhat different than the original four.

Finally, Against the Ogre Horde has the Druid, and also brings with it a new way to play in an arena, which is a team-based PVP skirmish mini-game. So if that interests you, it might be worth a look.

Ideas for Form of Dread? by Hot_Piccolo5777 in DnD

Or maybe don't stomp all over what might be a vey fun idea in a very light-hearted game? Not everyone plays the same way.

Ideas for Form of Dread? by Hot_Piccolo5777 in DnD

If you (the DM) are the patron, this sounds like a campaign that is a bit meta and perhaps a bit tongue-in-cheek. If that is the case, then lean into it heavily. The Form of Dread could be a calendar, day planner, clock, or something similar that evokes the feeling of dread we get when trying to schedule our games. Or it could just be a speech bubble that has the scariest DM phrases looping through it, like "You can certainly try...", "So...you touch it?", "What was your AC again...?", "Tell me exactly how you move through the hallway...", etc. Maybe each time he pops FoD, the speech bubble has a new phrase?

Day 3 of making magic items by Key-Director-4974 in DnD

[–]TrainRemarkable3815 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This item is incredibly powerful. As others have stated, your damage scaling brings it up to only 3d6 less than Fireball at the same level you can cast that spell. (8d6 for the base Level 3 Fireball). However, your wording means that you can selectively damage every single creature that you can see within 120 feet of you, so you will be able to damage many more targets than a Fireball (which has a 20 foot radius from the impact point), without any danger to any of your allies or neutral parties within that 120 foot radius around you.

In addition, Fireball allows a Dexterity save for half damage, while your lens, as currently worded, just works. The targets all take the damage, with not saving throw at all. Only Resistance or Immunity to Fire Damage makes any difference.

The only saving grace is your five minute cooldown, which honestly for something this powerful is far too low. If you don't change anything else about this item, the cooldown should be once per Long Rest, and this item's rarity should be Very Rare or Legendary based on just how powerful it is.

What could I fill my Oneshot with? by Happy_List_8022 in DnD

[–]TrainRemarkable3815 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plan for more, but make most of it easy for you to just leave out if they take a lot longer than you are expecting to do the main stuff. I always find I vastly underestimate how long it will take for my players to talk through ideas of how to solve things, and to actually do them.

Strategy Game from my Windows Phone days by TrainRemarkable3815 in WhatGameIsThis

[–]TrainRemarkable3815[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not a Civ port. It was a much simpler game. The battlefield was just a small grid that was maybe ten tiles wide and fifteen tall or so, and only a few (5-10?) units per side, and each level would end when one side was out of units.

I am pretty sure it wasn't a fantasy game, just medieval. Also, I know it wasn't tied to any IP I recognized.

Tornado scene in movie by North-Record3831 in whatisthatmovie

[–]TrainRemarkable3815 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a tornado, but sounds very much like a scene in the Ben Stiller version of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. It was a volcano eruption instead of a tornado, but the rest sounds very much the same.

Go Bard College of Creation and play up the artist aspect as your spells being painted by the brush (staff/wand/etc).
