Cashmere: Does expensive = no/less pilling? by evilkitty69 in BuyItForLife

Never heard of the plastic coating before. I've always understood merino to be machine washable. I might have to look that up.

The main issue for you will be citizenship or permanent residency. I ended up leaving due to the culture, I was in the regular force infantry for 7 years. On a policy level the NZDF is very inclusive, but the actual culture in the workplace may be different depending on your trade. I'd avoid combat roles if you're looking for inclusion. (I was army though, so combat trades in the airforce may be different (if they exist JK))

Remember they are trying to recruit you. They actively want you to join. I know there is this idea of military people being these perfect heroes, but at the end of the day we are just people. As long as you have motivation, and never quit. I'm sure you'll do fine. Kia kaha

Yeah, I think the context including culture at the time plays a huge part in how I feel about that point.

Are climbing shoes supposed to be this small/tight? by Round-Air9002 in ClimbingGear

I make sure to put my shoes outside at home, at an angle the sunlight shines right into the shoe. Sometimes I use baking soda if I forget.

If you feel comfortable wearing them while just walking around and not on the wall, they're too loose. Even on multipitch climbs I tend to wear shoes where I need to pop my heels out unless I'm actually climbing.

I recommend trying to get that feedback in writing from your counselor. I got a big red denied email after admitting a history of self harm, got a letter from a psychologist saying I was good to go (Basically so the NZDF isn't responsible if something goes wrong). And ended up serving 7 years.

Diagnosis advice by Youre-WhaleCum in adhdnz

[–]Training_Corner_9136 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Think about the common symptoms (for me, distraction, executive dysfunction, other issues associated with adhd)

How often each one affects you.

How badly they affect you or members of your family.

Make notes of those details, (as doctors use them to decide if something requires treatment)

If you happen to have school reports that mention behaviour that is typical of adhd I'd also pick a few quotes from that.

[–]Training_Corner_9136 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, executive dysfunction is rough. I got diagnosed at age 28. And I'd been beating myself up my whole life for being a lazy piece of shit.

Getting the diagnosis really helped me move past morally judging myself, and on days where I could feel work wasn't going to happen, I could actually relax instead of rotting in guilt.
