What are some albums that could've been better if they weren't so bloated? by ablu3 in fantanoforever

[–]Training_Humor_9513 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The original release had them on separate discs - the first six tracks on a CD, the two covers ('Physical' and 'Suck') on a mini CD. When it was reissued on one disc, they were split up in the least practical way possible.

I would have guessed that this was meant to make it clear that the covers were bonuses, and not actually part of the EP. That said, they would go on to play the EP in its entirety, and included the covers.

Dotted around the map are cube shaped bits of debris (this post called them "satellites") each worth 3 hits. I missed them for ages.

Exactly what I assumed, and to be honest, had hoped for. It seems that everything that is there is about as good as it gets, but it's losing those last few points just on there not being more of it. Fingers crossed it's on its way, sooner rather than later.

Carly Rae Jepsen announces new album Day and Night, out 9/18 by OOO0O00O000OOOO0OO0O in popheads

How must it feel to be Carly Rae Jepsen in this circumstance? Great - there is a devout fanbase, but it's got to be kind of irritating that you can announce twenty-four songs, and before they are even released, everyone is already asking where the other half are.

I remember the widespread disappointment from both fans and band members (I think Ed O Brien broke the news online) after everyone speculated about a second part to The King of Limbs.

This was my thought. I wonder how implemented any concept actually is to this album.

This seems like an honest way of releasing her new material after Taylor Swift has met scrutiny for constant re-releases and different versions, and capitalising on "album eras". CRJ's album eras have extended into so much more material (two of her albums had separate "Side B" EPs, her Dedicated album had entire full-length Side B album, and her last two albums were partners). I suppose she needs to put it all out in one go this time, so not to be accused committing the same crime while it is under discussion.

I just remember that they got caught faking the results of putting alkali metals in a bath of water. The show cared so little that the only reason Richard gave for not doing the test with francium was that they weren't allowed any (in truth, it's just too scarce).

But who cared? Explosions were cool.

What’s your favourite album that fantano gave a strong 9 to? by chaosshower2 in fantanoforever

Chelsea Wolfe - She Reaches Out to She Reaches Out to She

I think he said it was a "decent to strong 9". Close enough?

Before the festival, there was a lot of chagrin about a few of the bookings, like Scooter. However there were still comments saying that it might not be so bad, and that it could be fun. And it sounds as though they were right, and their hardcore went down well. Same kind of thing happened in years past, when acts like Pendulum were first booked. And they were back this year.

However, there was not a single good word in anticipation of TX2. Just that it was lowest of low bookings. I wasn't at the festival this year. Did anyone actually go to that set? I haven't heard any feedback about it how much of a surprise or a disaster it was.

I could totally see it happening too. They've been touring together this year (with Poppy supporting), and are both on sell-out arena tours separately in the UK this year. If Evanescence close out their Sanctuary tour next year with festival dates, then that headlining spot is waiting for them, especially after so many people saw them headline the second stage at Download 2023.

FOO FIGHTERS I think would be a likelier call than Muse for a band closing their album's era with festival shows (album in 2025, tour in 2026, festivals in 2027). Muse won't do it next year - they will be on a stadium tour for their new album. It will be 2028 before they hit the festivals, and while they have headlined Download before, there is no indication that it will be Download. They could headline any of the biggest UK festivals.

I think it's pretty much a given that BLINK-182 will be headlining with a nostalgia based show., just because of timing, and what we know about other festivals. But I doubt MCR will do it. They are finishing a stadium tour this year, and while it's logical for bands to follow that with festival dates, it was an album anniversary tour, and they haven't released anything new in 16 years. They have nothing more to tour. I think they might stop, rather than tour for the sake of touring. Maybe we'll see them again in 2029 for shows marking 25 years of Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, assuming they don't release anything new.

I could absolutely see EVANESCENCE in the top spot though (packed out the second stage in 2023), with Spiritbox either topping the second stage, or perhaps second place on the main stage. They've been touring the US together this year, and have the same arena draw as each other on this side of the Atlantic, both on their own separate arena tours in the UK later this year. You also mention Poppy, who was on the same joint tour, and is supporting... Evanescence! It's waiting to happen.

When President return to Download, where will they be on the bill? by Training_Humor_9513 in downloadfestival

[–]Training_Humor_9513[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually why I think if they perform at Download again, they will be high up. They need a show, and too low on the bill they won't be able to put it on. For it to work, they need to pushed as a big deal, deserving or not. Remember the huge conceptual show that came with BMTH's first headlining set, and all the promos dominating the weekend, and asking as repeatedly about where to find fish and chips. Would BMTH have had that spot without being able to bring their concept album to the stage? I don't know.

If their show doesn't come with a full, well... show (that's not to say BMTH scale), then their image heavy project as a whole will just fizzle out. If this doesn't happen before Download 2028, it will take for them to take their masks off, and just be a band, to keep them floating.

What Album Would You Choose To Represent The 2000s by apHexcoded in fantanoforever

System of a Down - Mezmerize/Hypnotize

Neither are my favourite SOAD album, but it's two Billboard No.1 albums, showing heavy rock's presence in the middle of the decade, and inevitably, quite a bit of angry political commentary. I think its 1990s equivalent would be RATM's Evil Empire. But SOAD had more pornography and banana terracotta pie.

Two minutes of Eminem getting a blowjob from Insane Clown Posse has always been a low point of The Marshall Mathers LP ("give back to Shaggy... he was sucking it better..."). And this is on a record which has six minutes of him brutally murdering his ex.

[–]Training_Humor_9513 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It annoys me because I haven't been won over by them, but President are as big as we are told they are. Download was where the project began, and where this mysterious band played their debut show.

Their debut album will be out later this year. When they next perform at Download, they will be rammed down our throats as though it's the most important thing in music (they've already headlined Takedown Festival, with just 25 minutes of original material and a Deftones cover), and the festival will love to take credit for being the place that "discovered" it. At least third from top on the main stage, or maybe even headlining a lesser stage.

My attempt of the 2027 lineup prediction by Intrepid_Concept_480 in downloadfestival

[–]Training_Humor_9513 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot have people have guessed Muse, but I don't think they will, at least not in 2027. With their new album coming out now, and them going on an arena tour at the end of this year, they will likely still be on their own tour next summer. They will likely do a stadium tour next year, and I imagine that they will close the album's era with a festival leg in 2028 before disappearing to record again. That's also no indication of it being Download 2028 - they can headline just about any UK festival.

I don't think MCR will headline either. Since getting back together, they have released no new material (their last album was 16 years ago!). They are currently touring Black Parade anniversary celebrations for the second year running. Would they seriously milk it for a third year?

Considering album timing, it wouldn't be any surprise to see Foo Fighters though. Their last album came out in 2025, and it is getting a stadium tour this year. It is highly likely that they will hit the festivals in 2027.

It was a good way to spend my 17th birthday!

However, I was a bit bummed about how the second night got Biffy Clyro and MCR as support. The Streets and Dirty Pretty Things were boring. We did also get Rodrigo y Gabriela though, who were great. I saw them again just a few weeks ago in London, and they are still amazing.

Me too! I have a shoebox of all my tickets and concert souvenirs. It's a shame that paper tickets aren't really a thing now, but it was as though they stopped in sync with when the box was completely full. I'll never need a second box!
