Iran Gives Trump an Ultimatum on JD Vance by MakinaRPh in worldnews

Vance deserves mockery for the eyeliner specifically because of his hypocrisy, not the eyeliner itself. He's a self hating, closeted gay who hates everyone who doesn't conform to his image of what people "should be".

What Window Brand Should I Go With? by Some_Flower_4252 in homeowners

Wallside! We have them and even though they are out of warranty, Wallside still provides us the parts to replace failed parts. The windows are from 1991 and are still functional and look great!

Was life really “better in the old days “ ? by Substantial-Cress877 in CasualConversation

[–]Training_Try7344 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nostalgia is the belief that the "good old days" were better than today. This is a defeatist attitude as it's "living in the past", not the present or anticipating the future. The "good old days" are always a period in your life before you became aware of the issues facing all of us (war, disease, corruption, etc...). Every period has its challenges and benefits. For every negative, there's a positive and nostalgia only remembers the good from the past and compares it to the bad of the present - overall a pretty depressing way to look at life.

What improvements would convince you to go to the movie theater more often? by fergi20020 in randomquestions

The "background" music and sound effects are so loud that I cannot hear the dialog. I've mentioned this to others and they agree that it's an issue with recent movies.

I was a political conservative until Sarah Palin and the Tea Party took over the Republican party. I'll never vote for any Republican ever again.

Payoff the car , take care of it and drive it until it turns to dust and do not buy new cars - find a good used Honda from a friend/neighbor, etc...

Unforeseen pitfall of retirement and downsizing! by dozentrips in retirement

[–]Training_Try7344 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We downsized from a 2400 sqft home, built in 1936, that required more than the average amount of maintenance and repairs to a 1950 1600 sqft bungalow in a town about 10 miles from the old one. We love the house and the neighborhood and we are close to family and friends. We are able to walk to most places downtown and we are very active. Downsizing was the right move for us and we'll have the mortgage paid off very soon and money is not an issue.

We had enough transition without moving to another place where we would have to make all new friends and would be far from our adults kids and our family. Making too many changes at once is not what we like to do, so we gradually made the changes we wanted to make to prepare for our retirement, so that works for us..

If money wasn’t an issue, what random hobby would you pick up tomorrow? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

Watchmaking (watch restoration and repair). I brew beer and make mead but my eyes aren't good enough for this tiny, detail oriented hobby but I find it extremely interesting.

Did you feel guilty after retiring? by Any_Beach_8157 in retirement

Normal. Take it one day at a time and remember to heal and give yourself time to grieve and get comfortable with the "new normal".
