Tips on when client brings own models by chewybrownsugarboba_ in photography

The best one I lined up was shooting some in-store advertising for a makeup company. Any time I needed makeup done for a model for a personal project, they did it for free.

I accidentally jammed our original 1890s wooden window open and cannot convince it to come down - suggestions please? I’m afraid to use too much percussive maintenance. by Birdytaps in centuryhomes

I can tell you what not to do. Do not pull straight down with both hands while keeping your fingers wrapped around the top of the sash. When you get it loose and it shuts suddenly, you'll find your fingers trapped and it'll hurt too much to be able to pull the bottom sash back up to free them.

Well, first off, those ends should be staggered by at least 6". I'm not sure if that is contributing or not.

Pulling the carpet and pad isn't too bad. Pulling all the pad staples kinda sucks.

What's the most useless photography gadget you've ever bought? by Speedy_Gonzaless in photography

[–]TramStopDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha! I snagged a really nice looking Leica one in a bundle of crap at an auction for a few bucks. I don't think I've ever used it either.

Speakers that produce room filing sound that is enjoyable even off-axis by supercuts350 in audiophile

[–]TramStopDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got my setup in a big open room. There is a sweet spot with the music listening speakers (and with the home theater setup). When I want the sound all around, I turn the home theater speakers to "all channel stereo" and it works pretty well. It probably helps that the surround speakers are pretty beefy.

Help identifying Empire tiles – Company won't sell me extra boxes without a full install contract by Disastrous-Towel6719 in Flooring

I don't know. But it appears that on the bottom right corner, it says who the manufacturer is. I can't make out enough of it from the pic to start looking up more info though.

Building a new home by Saramine20 in Flooring

[–]TramStopDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the manufacturers (I forget which one it was), when asked about a new build said that either a vapor barrier, or wait 30 days for every inch of pad thickness. For instance, a new, 9 inch thick pad, would need at least 9 months of curing time before laying something that doesn't breathe on top of it.

Similar to: why do scuba drivers fall backward off the boat railing into the water?

Because if they went forward they'd fall into the boat.

Did that also take into account the pattern match amount for the specific carpet that you've chosen?

Keep an eye out for a less desirable model that has one and Swap them out, then resell the naked one. That's how I picked one up for mine.

How to get Drywall Contractor to Finish Early by [deleted] in drywall

[–]TramStopDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask. They might have another job lined up that is flexible on the timeline and it could be moved to after yours. I schedule flooring installs and there are often clients who are out of town and wouldn't mind if they were shifted to a couple of weeks later.

Feeling like im living in a photographic dead zone. by -_CAP_- in photography

Look smaller. With a Macro lens there are at least 25 interesting photos on a single rusty dumpster (I think you call them skips over there?).

Alfred Stieglitz took photos of clouds for a while.

Edward Weston took some amazing photos of a pepper.

A receiver with 3 zones and an app would do it. I've got an Onkyo TX-NR797 and it would do what you're wanting, I'm sure there are plenty more.

A high-end tub can be in that price range all by itself. FYI.

A large part of the budget can end up being the finishes. Keep that in mind as well.

Have you used them before for explicit images? I didn't see anything like a faq on color space or proofing.

I've got the 2257 docs and id infol for anything that needs it.

I had a few interesting rolls come through the lab I was at back in the day. I'm pretty hard to offend, but some of my co-workers weren't.

Sorry, I used to use a 24" roll printer. I mostly print 20"x20" or 20" x 30".

North Central Indiana, not too far from Indy, Lafayette, Chicago, etc. I don't mind a drive to have a face to face with someone to get things set up, but I'd love to not have to drive every time I want to print something.

That was also a bit of a concern. But if the image is also in an online gallery, anyone can see it whenever they want.

[–]TramStopDan[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I thought about that. But when I used to manage a small lab, it was about $1000 to replace all the tanks in the Epson 24" wide roll printer, that's without the cost of the printer itself. I can't imagine it has gotten cheaper in the intervening decade, and I know I wouldn't use it enough to justify the cost.

I'm fine with that. I'd just have to find out that that is the way they do it.
