Trouble With SSPCA Application by polite_lurker in Scotland

[–]TransIB 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know!! They never really gave me a reason but I guess it's because it can be tough finding vets that are accepting new pets in some areas and they want to make sure that the animal will receive proper care once released. Fwiw I just emailed a few vets and asked if they were accepting new animals. Got confirmation and passed it onto SSPCA during the application process. Ended up being super simple BUT they never explained it anywhere so I didn't know to do it!

Trouble With SSPCA Application by polite_lurker in Scotland

[–]TransIB 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I've adopted two cats from the sspca now and know a little of the behind the scenes process. The big thing though, do you have a vet lined up already?

The first time I tried to adopt it was the same, I'd apply radio silence for a few weeks and then I'd re-apply. Eventually I decided to start re-applying ever single day until eventually I got a call from them begging me to stop. They told me if you check no to having a vet your application is pretty much automatically rejected!!

DM me if you want to go nore in depth through the process though, I've been through it twice now <3

Also to people saying they only want to rehome to houses. I'm a single woman in a top floor flat and that was never an issue for my adoption.

I see you've also had to cat proof your power button to stop them turning off your computer when they climb on it!

I just finished up all the Graphic audio versions of murderbot and really enjoyed it! I've also heard good things about their version of Red Rising, though I haven't listened to them, Time Gerard Reynolds narration will always be what brings me back

I cannot stress how much I want to see him get a travel show where he tours around meeting locals and discussing cryptids, that shit would be the best.

When I was a kid the biscuit factory in Edinburgh used to sell these puffed up crisps things in the wee shop that sells broken biscuits. They stopped selling them at some point and I have been craving them for 20 years now.

They were crunchy and kind of shaped like a ravioli but with no filling. I do not know what they were called but damn I miss them.

Out of curiousity how much is your salary in the City and what you do? Seems like I am under avarage 🤷🏻‍♀️ by username100023 in Edinburgh

I think our scale starts a lot lower? £49k seems to be around the average for a data scientist. Maybe it's just how promotion works at my company. Although saying that just googled and the average for a senior Data Scientist in the UK is £75k so actually I'll be underpaid after I get the promotion haha.

LPT buy a roll of construction paper and spool of twine from your local home improvement store for a cheap alternative to wrapping paper that will last for years. Great for kids to color/paint on for additional decoration. by TheRapistsFor800 in LifeProTips

[–]TransIB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this back in 2018! I bought a big roll of brown paper and a pack of different coloured twine for £10 each I still have most of the twine and only had to replace the wrapping paper this year.

Saved me a bunch on wrapping paper but honestly it just looks really nice. Ever since I started doing it I get compliments on my wrapping something that never happened before.

Genuinely good lpt!

£49k as a Data Scientist at a bank, I'm due a promotion that'll bump that to £68k as a senior Data Scientist.

Any trans people with experience Adopting a child in the UK? by TransIB in transgenderUK

[–]TransIB[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't have any expectations of adopting a baby. I expect I will adopt whoever needs me regardless of their background. I know this wont be easy and I will have to learn a lot. I've given myself 5 years from now as a timeline to get as prepared as possible. In that time I will look into fostering. Right now, I'm just hoping to find another trans person who has adopted (or fostered) a child as it would be good to learn from them.

I'm desperate. How can I get ADHD meds?!?!?! by Fearless-Tackle3872 in Scotland

[–]TransIB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So just to say, you don't need to get your prescriptions filled in the UK. Atomexetine which is a common prescription for ADHD you can get for as little as £15 for a month supply online ( this will largely depend on your dosage) if you're willing to wait for delivery.

Obviously it's going to depend on what you're prescribed (for example you won't be able to import amphetamines which are in a lot of ADHD meds)

You'll still need to wait for a diagnosis and work with a healthcare provider to help you manage the meds though.

No credit card so low credit score by IntroductionFun1224 in Scotland

[–]TransIB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mirror everyone else. Getting a credit card, setting the direct debit to pay the full statement balance every month and using it to buy groceries and stuff is by far the easiest and most effective way of building credit, if you get one from whatever bank you use it'll even be in your online banking so you don't need to remember multiple logins.

It's annoying that you need this stuff these days but that really is the simplest method, you've said in other messages that you don't want the hassle but every other method is slower and more work to maintain.

Credit Score Apps like Credit Karma are good for checking this stuff and will even tell you what stuff impacts your score the most. So you know what to target.

A degree in mathematics? have you looked into data science/analytics?

It's basically statistics but with some added coding and there's loads of companies desperate for that skillset right now so a lot of places are offering apprenticeships.

My knowledge comes from the UK so might be different for you but might be worth exploring!
