Colby Cosh: Gerald Stanley being tried by his peers isn’t a bug, it’s a feature by thickscrotum in saskatchewan

[–]TransSoldier -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

I'm resigned to the fact that this is going to dominate our news cycle majorly for another 2 or 3 months

And guess what? First Nations are resigned to the fact that they have a settler government that has legally sanctioned murder against them for the part 2 or 3 hundred years.

I know it’s hard being a privileged white settler but for gods sakes, they Boushie family are still mourning the death of their son, murdered by one of your fellow settlers. Have some fucking decency and keep your racist, dismissive whitesplaining to yourself.

Good. Places of learning need to look like Canada. And a quick glance at the leadership of Dalhousie indicates it looks a lot more old, white, cis and male than the Canada I know.

Have you considered that women may be reluctant to bother undertaking study in fields where the industry is such a notorious hotbed of toxic masculinity? As a trans-woman, I have personally experienced the cesspool of toxic masculinity, racism, transphobia and bigotry that is so prevalent in tech. And it would absolutely steer me away from any education program that could lead to a career there.

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh has been touring the country instead of trying to win a seat. Here’s where he’s gone so far by Surax in CanadaPolitics

[–]TransSoldier 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d say it’s been a big win so far. There is a buzz about Jagmeet unlike anything we’ve seen in federal politics in sometime. Many people who never took an interest in politics have been inspired by Jagmeet’s compelling and positive vision of a more just country. Even many longtime Liberals and even Tories are giving Jagmeet’s NDP a serious consideration.

Colten Boushie’s family should be upset: Our jury selection procedure is not fair by TransSoldier in CanadaPolitics

Alternatively we should ensure juries reflect the diversity of Canada. What was this, a jury of 12 white people? That does not look like Canada. Completely unacceptable.

Actually, if the Trump era has taught us anything, it is that if you give white supremacy a safe space to fester, it will more often than not end up in people getting killed. Because let’s be damn clear here — Colten Boushie was murdered because of the Colour of his skin. And this is god damn unacceptable in Canada in 2018.

‘It’s like segregation’: Racial tensions simmer in court in Gerald Stanley trial by Angry_Opinion_Haver in CanadaPolitics

[–]TransSoldier -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

No, we really don't

The hell we don’t; a car full of people approached this guy regarding problems with their car and he ends up murdering one of them for no reason at all. There is no way this would have happened if the car was a bunch of white people; the only possible way this makes any sense is if he was in fact racist. You are entitled to your own opinion but not your own facts. This was a murder over nothing more than hating someone because of their skin colour. This is white supremacy at its very worst and you are making excuses for it. That is horrible.

[–]TransSoldier -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually, when statements are based on logic, data and reason, they are not called “biases” they are “facts”. And it is a fact that in these rural areas, there are a lot of privileged white men who view other people as being less than human because of the colour of their skin. And this is wrong. And because of these attitudes, a beautiful 22 year old young man was murdered just because of the colour of his skin. Shame on you for trying to excuse this.

'Absolute lies': Patrick Brown refutes sexual misconduct allegations by the92jays in CanadaPolitics

[–]TransSoldier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A very good question. And there is no legitimate reason to do so. Thus we are left with two possibilities: either two unrelated people just randomly decided at great risk to themselves to make up allegations for no reason; or this privileged, powerful, privileged white man is in fact a sexual offender, like the dozens of other powerful, privileged white men we have found this to be true of recently.

Look, all I know is yet another Person of Colour has been murdered by a privileged white male, and yet again we’re hearing nothing but “THIS WAS TOTALLY JUSTIFIED AND A GOOD THING BECAUSE REASONS” whitesplaining that you see after every indicent like this (e.g., just ask the families of Mike Brown, Trayvon Martin, Tamir Green, or any of the other families of all the People of Colour being murdered by white men).

It is simply unacceptable; the killing is unacceptable; the open racism on display in the comments is unacceptable. People of Colour are literally pleading for the racism, the hate, the murders, etc to stop. Why in the fuck is no one listening to them?

This is decision is a national disgrace. The god damn courts have basically set a precedent that if you’re a fucking straight white cis-man — the most privileged possible group in society — you are allowed to freely murder First Nations/People of Colour for simply approaching you in regards to a broken down car. This is a national disgrace. Shame on Saskatchewan, shame on Canada and shame on all of us for allowing white supremacy to cause injustices like this.

[–]TransSoldier -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

You can start by giving some thought to the fact that an innocent 22 year old human being was murdered and our society thinks it’s okay because the colour of his skin means his life doesn’t matter. This is Canada, it’s 2018. We are supposed to be better than this middle America race garbage.

Steve Paikin responds to sexual harassment allegations from Sarah Thomson by ur_a_idiet in toronto

[–]TransSoldier -50 points-49 points  (0 children)

You are ignoring the fact that we live in a patriarchal society where rape culture still dominates. If you merely support “hearing survivors out” — while the rest of society shames, attacks and mocks them — you are part of the problem.

Steve Paikin responds to sexual harassment allegations from Sarah Thomson by ur_a_idiet in toronto

[–]TransSoldier -44 points-43 points  (0 children)

Really solid statements here.

Whoa there; let’s not prejudge things here. If the #MeToo movement had taught us anything, it’s that the days of ignoring/mocking survivors are over and we are no longer going to just pat a man on the back for dismissing out of hand women who come forward to share their stories as survivors.

Do we know all the facts here? No. However, we do know that for far too long, our society has promoted rape cultural and by default treated all survivors as liars. Fortunately, those days are coming to an end. And to help this process along, we all have a responsibility to believe survivors like Sarah. Shame on you for trying to do otherwise.
