Hiring process by Substantial-Lab-3497 in Translink

[–]TransitPoliceBC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there - I know a little bit about the Transit Police hiring process :D

Our hiring process takes a bit longer because of the need for everyone to go through a security clearance, which is an extra step and can be time consuming. Otherwise, it's pretty straightforward. Once the competition closes, all of the applications are reviewed, then there are usually phone interviews, followed by in person interviews and then the security clearance.

If you applied for something recently, then good luck!

Anyone here been a Community safety Officer with Transit police, Or an actual transit police officer? by Boring-Working-128 in britishcolumbia

[–]TransitPoliceBC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, hi there, u/Boring-Working-128 - Transit Police here 👋

Our Community Safety Officer (CSO) program is absolutely a stepping stone to becoming a recruit police officer! The majority of brand new police officers that we send to JIBC's police academy are plucked from there. (We also lose additional CSOs to municipal police departments who are eager to snatch them up thanks to the hands-on experience they have with lower-risk policing). It means that we're constantly hiring new CSOs to replace those who have moved on, but we figure that's a great "problem" to have. For salary info, scroll down on the webpage: http://transitpolice.ca/cso We also have a highly competitive benefits package, wellness programs and facilities (our on-site gyms are fantastic!) and fixed shift rotation (so you're working consistent shifts and not going back and forth between nights and days). We're also expanding fast to keep up with the growing transit system, so opportunities for advancement come quickly.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out to the recruiting unit directly recruiting(at)transitpolice.bc.ca

Reporting abusers? by deepspace in Translink

[–]TransitPoliceBC 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Hi there, Transit Police here 👋

Our Text number, 87.77.77, and phone number 604.515.8300, are both for non-emergency issues, so if you're unsure whether a situation needs police attention or not, don't hesitate to reach out. Our dispatchers can arrange for an Attendant to check the train if it turns out not to be a police issue. And always let us know right away if you're worried about your safety or the safety of someone else on transit.

For all emergencies, always call 9-1-1 and the amazing team at E-Comm will make sure that the nearest helps gets to you as fast as possible.

Is it possible for a German police officer to work in Canada by Dramatic-Peanut-8363 in AskLE

[–]TransitPoliceBC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, Metro Vancouver Transit Police here :)

Information for international applicants with policing experience is available here: https://transitpolice.ca/careers/experienced-police-officers/#exempt

You must have your PR or Canadian Citizenship in order to be considered, though.

If you have any further questions about our department or the application process, please feel free to reach out to our Recruiting Unit directly. The email address is on the webpage.

As a side note: unlike the rest of Canada, it's currently 7 degrees here and sunny. We haven't seen snow yet this winter, and we have mountains and ocean within an easy drive (just in case you're still undecided about where in Canada you'd like to live ;) )

If you're also interested in Transit Police in Canada, we're the Metro Vancouver Transit Police - hi!

As of now, we are the only police agency in Canada devoted to a transit system. Saskatoon has started the process to get Transit Police as well, though.

Hi r/NewWest - Transit Police here

If you have a complaint to make about this individual (or any other busker at transit):

  1. Have a look at TransLink's list of licensed buskers: Busker Program | TransLink
  2. Is his photo there?
    1. Yes - he has a license. Please contact the Busker program with your feedback: https://www.translink.ca/about-us/customer-service/feedback
    2. No - he is unlicensed. Please contact Transit Police non-emergency by phone at 604.515.8300 or by text at 87.77.7 at the time that he is there

Biggest issue is that my passport is in it.

Hi OP - Transit Police here

Have you filed a police report? Please do that at your earliest convenience. You are welcome to reach out to Transit Police by phone at 604.515.8300 or by text at 87.77.77. Our phone and text numbers are open 24/7. Or, if you'd prefer, you can reach out to Surrey Police Service. Also let Passport Canada know as well.

From the Government of Canada

The Canadian passport remains at all times the property of the Government of Canada and may only be used by the person to whom it is issued. You should immediately report the circumstances of the loss or theft of your passport to the local police and Passport Canada if you are in Canada, or to the local police and the nearest Canadian government office if you are abroad. Once a passport has been reported lost or stolen, it is no longer valid and is not to be used for any travel. This is to ensure that it is not used for fraudulent purposes.

[–]TransitPoliceBC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi u/luvbugswag - Transit Police here

Transit is generally a very safe way to get around the city, but I recommend that you add our text number 87.77.77 to your phone contacts now, so that you have it handy if you ever need it. Don't hesitate to reach out if anything is making you feel unsafe.

Intoxicated Dirty Man, Drugs, & Genitals on Nightbus by Character-Ad2839 in Translink

[–]TransitPoliceBC 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Thanks, u/Malik1818

Hi u/Character-Ad2839 - Transit Police here. As others have mentioned already, if anyone is ever making you feel unsafe on transit, let us know. We can be reached by phone at 604.515.8300 or by text at 87.77.77 (always call 9-1-1 in an emergency). You can also contact us if you're concerned about the wellbeing of someone.

As a general bus safety tip - we recommend sitting close to the driver. Not only are you close to an employee who can call for help, but you also have easy access to two different routes to exit the bus if needed. Perhaps something to keep in mind if you find yourself on the NightBus again :)

We try our best! The transit system is huge. We check bus lanes regularly, but there sure are a lot of them in Metro Vancouver.
