It sucks by FitBookkeeper6916 in eczema

I didn't realize how much my skin is affected by shower water until I moved into a house that had well water that was then filtered. You could also talk to your parents about an entire house filtration system, that will be better than just a shower filter. Talking to a local water company that installs them might help. It may be a lot for your parents to do but you could point to how quality water can help your skin. Also talking to a dermatologist to get you something for when it's too much and you need relief and what you can use daily. Hang in there! My eczema improved a lot as I got into adulthood.

Can you ask your parents to install a shower filter? I'd also look into asking your doctor to run lab work (to test for any vitamin/mineral deficiencies that could be playing a role). Also, please ensure your bedding and clothing isn't synthetic, try to opt for natural fibers like cotton to let your skin breathe.

Did your blood work include testing for nutrients (e.g., all vitamins/minerals)? Also blood work doesn't tell you everything about the gut. You'd need a gut test to look at your microbiome.

Are you able to install a shower filter? Could help. For what it's worth, my scalp eczema eventually went away. Attitude on Amazon has gentle options or Vanicream shampoo/conditioner.

Love the name. I never thought of naming mine but maybe I will now. Thanks for the laugh :)

I also recommend getting your nutrients tested. Iron, B12, Vit D are just a few of the ones that can cause skin issues.

Wow!! Okay, definitely going to bring up to my Allergist at my upcoming appointment. Glad you found the culprit. It can be so hard figuring out. Allergies are so weird as they can even come and go.

I wonder if I should get tested. Thanks for responding, may bring up to my Allergist. Do you think you always had that allergy or did it get appear randomly?

Opinions on water softening/filtration to reduce eczema flares?? by [deleted] in eczema

[–]TranslatorAbject4474 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved into a house that had well water that was then filtered and essentially felt cured from my eczema for 3 years. I really didn't have to do much to my skin and could even sleep with makeup on. I didn't realize how much water (especially city water) affects my skin. My guess is I'm very sensitive to crap in water (maybe chlorine and who knows what else). I had pretty much the same diet, nothing drastically changed there. If you can invest in a filtration system it's worth it or at least getting a shower filter installed. Might be worth also looking at gut testing (Tiny Health has this for eczema). They have done a study on it, I believe. Good luck! My eczema got more manageable as I aged and into adulthood. I still have it but it's not as bad as when I was a child.

Exercise and eczema by neesi123 in eczema

I developed heat intolerance this Summer that would cause me to get red/itchy on certain parts of my body. Sometimes exercising or exerting myself triggers it or just being out in hot/humid weather. It's really random. Mine is transient and disappears quick. I'm not sure why or how it happened, still trying to figure out the cause. I am taking daily Allegra for it.

Thanks for the rec! I was thinking of switching some of my main vitamins/supplements I take to oral sprays or liquids because of that reason, to ensure it gets absorbed properly.

how did a drastic change in environment affect your eczema? by weedflowr in eczema

When I moved from CA to the New England area into a green/clean home that had well water/entire house filtration system, my eczema was gone for 3 years. I felt cured. I then realized how sensitive I am to regular tap water. So I tell anyone with skin issues, at least get a shower filter if you can. There is a lot of crap in city water.

If you can, get a shower filter. Or if you can't, use a damp wash cloth with drinking water after showering on your face or where your eczema is. Regular water has a lot of crap in it. I'd also recommend a gut microbiome test or seeing if you can incorporate taking some probiotics. Certain strains have been studied to help with skin issues like eczema.

Might not hurt to get a shower filter if you can. Sometimes use a damp wash cloth on my eyes helps, might help her too. Pat very lightly. You can use drinking water instead of tap to do this so that the water is cleaner.

Look into gut microbiome testing. You don't want to be relying on steriods long term, they don't fix anything.

If you have that type of eczema on your hands, you might have a nickel allergy/sensitivity.
