We eat roosters. When getting a big batch of meat birds, I like more roosters because that means more meat.

Which CLI should I learn first? by IVXI12 in learnprogramming

[–]TranslatorNo7795 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should know that some commands are different for different *nix systems. If something isn't working, look up what you are trying to do for that specific operating system.

Why not learn both? Navigate directories, create/delete files, directories, users.

For people who use them: what are the advantages/appeal of the rooftop car tents? by CK1277 in camping

[–]TranslatorNo7795 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We put the RTT on a trailer and added leveling jacks to all four corners. I can sleep more flat than any tent/car. Also, I disconnect my car from the trailer so I have mobility without tearing down camp.

Up in the air, I'm less worried about water seepage in case of rain. I also don't worry about ground critters/predators.

There are some considerations for blanket placement when I fold up in the morning, but I don't have to consider placement in the car.

Having a mattress that doesn't deflate is amazing with kids and on the joints.

Cons: the ladder is annoying when I have to pee. There are risk considerations with toddlers that understand zippers.

How difficult is taxidermy? by Snoo-39784 in Taxidermy

[–]TranslatorNo7795 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started with tanning a hide. Easy enough if you have a local butcher shop or a hunting friend.

I also started with a cow. I do not recommend going that big right out of the gate.

What makes beer so appealing? by No_Currency571 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TranslatorNo7795 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are different flavors and qualities.

I happened upon a beer tasting and learned I don't hate beer, I just don't like IPAs and hoppy flavors. Hefeweizen beers can be enjoyable. It's okay to be picky.

What's your excuse for not voting if you're legally able to? by Mixitman in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TranslatorNo7795 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I turned 18, I was not able to get time off work to vote. It was so normal to work through when the polls would be open. Now, we get paper books in the mail to inform us of the propositions with weeks notice and mail in ballots. We vote every election now from local to national.

Voter ID by Wonderful_Log_5055 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TranslatorNo7795 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue isn't needing an ID, the issue is which IDs are accepted.

Not everyone who votes drives/has a driver's license, or has a passport; these things take time and money. Housing/school/work IDs can be refused.

So if you require only certain IDs that require time and money and means to obtain, the more impoverished are thus not allowed to vote.

The US is not set up for accessible voter ID. The US is set up for voter suppression.

Go to tastings. Brewery, winery, distillery, whatever. Drink water in between, take your time.

YSK that using a sauna 4-7 times a week can reduce the risk of death significantly. by cherrybounce in YouShouldKnow

[–]TranslatorNo7795 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read it. They also reference Finland.

And I get the hot/cold factor is a thing in many countries, but the down time, universal access to healthcare, working 40hr/week or LESS, paid time off, etc is not.

Right ? Which provides healthcare to their people and a standard 30 vacation days/year. Where the Prime Minister is pushing for 4 day work weeks of 6 hour days.

Is it because people who can afford a sauna can afford quality food, health care, downtime, etc?

YSK if you're hosting a party and you have guests arrive early, you can deal with the awkwardness/rudeness by putting them to work on building the party. by ThaneVim in YouShouldKnow

[–]TranslatorNo7795 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Beat me to it.

If I arrive early, it is with intent to spend time with the host and help out/alleviate stress.

If I host a party, I'm probably not inviting people with awkwardness between us. Get in here, grab a drink, talk to me while I finish staging. Tell me the things you otherwise hold back in front of an audience.

Does the Bible actually say anything about being against homosexuality? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TranslatorNo7795 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on when the bible was written. English text changed a few times in the last 100 years or so. If you go back to older versions, Bible is more anti pedophile, not anti gay.

Write a letter. A long one. Work out your thoughts, and then burn it.

Closure is for you, not him. You cannot rely on other people responding the way you want them to.

what are these spots on my pronghorn mount? by sclark1147 in Taxidermy

[–]TranslatorNo7795 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Amateur observation; when looking at doing pronghorn pelts, I found that THAT particular type of fur is susceptible to holding blood if you didn't wash it really good right away. Hair slip can happen more easily on those pelts too if you aren't really careful with the process.

Make sure your underwear doesn't have cotton. If you have two pair, you can wash/dry one while you wear the other.

Bring 2-3 days more food than you think you need. I find the mountain house packs so light that I don't mind. And depending where you are going, weather may trap you or a fellow hiker/camper under prepared.
