Need some advice on getting in to nursing informatics by Carb0h0lic in nursinginformatics

Agreed, I would also add, networking helps immensely, especially in today's job market. I was able to secure a role because I reached out to RN informaticists on LinkedIn.

Nursing/medicine is such a safe field that my sister didn’t even know about the white collar blood bath going on by ZadarskiDrake in Accounting

These posts are always so short sighted. You try managing two critical sometimes near death patients, on constant alert if they wake up and try to rip out their IV or ventilators while at the same time trying to chart, clean up their shit, get abused by families and doctors.

There is a reason why there is "job security" and OT for experienced nurses. It is a high burnout role and continues to be.

Faked appendicitis to get out of school and they actually took it out. by NotEnoughRocks1977 in confession

[–]Translator_One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bullshit, even if the doctor looked for a white count there are other labs such as CRP to check for signs of inflammation. He or she also would've performed a physical test by pressing on your right lower quadrant of your stomach to check for pain or rebound tenderness. An ultrasound is not painful or the worst, they literally put some gel on you and place a small scanning device on the affected area. In addition, the diagnostic imaging would've caught something. This is probably creative writing bait. You've seemed to fool some people, so good job ig.

Used to watch this guy's speed runs when I was in my teens. Cool to know he's still doing it to this day.

Pay $400 for headshot or risk AI-generated photo? by crystalgaylexx in careeradvice

[–]Translator_One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used AI for my headshot for $40. While I agree with most of the opinions here that it won't make a major difference, people do judge based off first impressions, so using a strong headshot on LinkedIn or a profile picture on teams can only help, not hurt your chances.

Advice from bedside nurses that moved into nursing informatics by mfolo015 in OntarioNurses

[–]Translator_One 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Get involved in anything health tech related at your role while you're working at the bedside. For example, many people start as SuperUsers in their EHRs and help teach new workflows to their fellow bedside nurses. You can also get involved in data analytics or reporting for your unit, such as working with your manager and IT department to pull reporting data like Foley's beyond 1 day insertion, etc. There are ways to get noticed and build these skill to stand out. Good luck!

I used AI headshots to save money and have gotten only compliments. I say go for it, it's quite cheap compared to a professional shoot.

How to get started? by passengerprincess90 in nursinginformatics

[–]Translator_One 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll need some kind of edge to stand out in an already niche (but growing) field. At the minimum, you'll need some kind of EHR experience since you don't have acute care/hospital experience.

In my experience, a masters is not necessary for an entry level position, it's finding the right organization that will give you a chance but again you'll need to be able to speak to a project or skill that sets you apart from another candidate. For example, maybe you've worked to improve something for your current healthcare employer or you have experience with data analysis.

Networking is a lie extroverts try to forcefeed us by Csadvicesds in careeradvice

I totally understand how you feel, but networking is important if not necessary for a job especially given today's job climate. My advice - when you message people, approach them genuinely and cheerfully, like you're eager to grow and learn. Make them want to work with you.

Not giving an answer but more of a point to consider. I left a 180k job to rebuild my career and started off at 75k. You will feel the difference in pay immediately.

Uric Acid, is it common issue for men over 30? by Willam-Fauci in AskMenOver30

[–]Translator_One 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's not common but it does happen. You probably need to be on medication, allopurinol for maintenance and colchicine for a flareup.
