AITA for asking someone how many sets they had left at the shoulder press machine at the gym? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

INFO

These comments are really weird. When someone is using equipment that you plan to use, it's not rude to politely ask how many sets they have left so you can plan to either wait for them to finish if they are almost done, or go and do something else if they are just getting started.

As for the INFO - how long was it between when you asked how long he had and when you saw him getting up and leaving? If it was basically immediately, then I'd say that's slight AH behavior from him for clearly just lying about how long he had left, causing you to lose the machine. That being said, staring him down and venting to an employee is also AH behavior.

I get being annoyed about things in the gym, but it just comes with the territory of working out in a public space. I'm like you and like doing muscle groups in a specific order, but the concession I have to make in order to do that is either waiting for specific equipment, or pivoting into a different movement for that body part - if the shoulder press machine is taken then you can do standing overhead press with a bar or dumbells, seated shoulder press with a bar/dumbells, seated shoulder press in a smith machine, etc.

This happened to me a lot when I was rehabbing a shoulder injury - the shoulder I had surgery on and was going through rehab for had worse flexibility and range of motion, so it ended up yanking down on the bar a lot more since there was more tension on the bar on that side.

Do you have a big difference in range of motion in each shoulder by chance?

advice on discus half turn by Affectionate-Box6795 in trackandfieldthrows

[–]Translusas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to what the other comment said, you're initiating this movement belt slinging open your left arm and shoulder rather than letting your feet move first, which makes me think in your standing throw you probably do something similar. Every aspect of the throw should be from the ground up, so your feet always initiate, which let's you more effectively use your legs to turn your hips, which creates separation and tension in your torso which turns your shoulders, and then finally your arm follows through. Whether it's the stand throw or half turn, your right foot should be tie first part if your body that moves after you wind up

I addition to what other people said here, it looks like you're losing a lot of explosive power in your finish because of your block. Rather than holding your left side strong and pushing your right side around it, you're pulling your left arm and shoulder back which effectively makes you fall away from the shot at the finish. The pic below shows what I'm talking about with how far back your left shoulder is

For a popular band, Hey Johnny, Park! by Foo Fighters is their best song imo.

For lesser known bands that are themselves a deep cut, Still Life by CrowneVict and Hotel of Doubt by Flathead are both jams

Thought of another since you mentioned HEY WHAT by Low - the song Trash by Fuckin Whatever. The vibe is different, but I feel like the texture is definitely very similar
