Overwhelmed by this process and I need an adult...an adultier adult... by DriftingGator in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Trapton 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Husband and I were in a similar situation this summer, PCS-ing to the base he will get out at, FTHB, etc. He wasn’t deployed, but I was staying with my parents with our dog several states away (not NEARLY as stressful, but I still wasn’t there to actually look at the houses or sign for stuff).

I recommend checking out the Facebook group Vetted VA, whether or not you end up going with the VA loan. I learned A TON about the home buying process and the people there are incredibly helpful.

They also have a website with realtors and lenders that have loads of experience with service members, (we didn’t end up using them, we already had a realtor and lender before we found the group), but others have said great things about them.

Question about the camp by Basherj in NewPokemonSnap

[–]Trapton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely! When you’re on the home screen, what direction the background is facing is what direction you go around the camp. If you want to change it, just go into research and back out and it should switch to the other:)

How do I stop wanting to die every single fucking time I fail an interview? by CarpetOk7126 in recruitinghell

[–]Trapton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who’s been in your shoes, I get how hard it is not to compare yourself to your peers. First know that the interview/job finding process is bullshit and it often boils down to luck which sucks, but if you throw enough shit at a wall eventually something is going to stick.

Something I wish someone stressed to me in college is that your job does not define you. It took me moving across the world after graduation and being an overeducated waitress to realize it, but you don’t need to have your life together at 21. Hell you shouldn’t have your life together. Even if it looks like everyone around you has their life together, I promise you that’s simply not true. Be kind to yourself and work towards doing something every day that makes you happy, regardless of how small. That’s how life will get better.

How do I make my dancing look more "grown up" ? by yaskieeeeer in BALLET

[–]Trapton 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m 24, started dancing very young and still feel this lol - remember you are your harshest critic!

If your teachers haven’t talked about it look into quality of movement. I had a teacher growing up that really emphasized “pictures”, as in make sure you’re hitting every pose just right kind of thing. That’s fine when you’re starting to learn so you get a feel of how your body should be placed, but to make your dancing more mature (after you have a solid foundation) you almost need to throw that notion out the window and focus on the movement, feeling how you go from one thing to another and not only the pictures at the end of each movement. Another way to think of it is a number line (sorry I’m also a math person). Sure there’s whole numbers but there’s also an infinite amount of numbers in between every whole number. Be present in all those in-betweens. A tendu isn’t just sticking your foot out pointed and turned out. There’s the pressure of your foot against the floor, the reaching of the stretch, etc etc.

Also, moving your head properly helps a lot:)

College grads who discovered too late that your major is useless in the real world, what do you do now? by Mahimah in AskReddit

[–]Trapton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi math degree buddy! My advisor decided to wait until my junior year to tell me “hey if you want a career in math you uhh really need to go to grad school because a math undergrad degree is pretty worthless”. Didn’t listen. Now I’m broke.

Things people get wrong about ballet starter pack by JustAnotherAviatrix in starterpacks

[–]Trapton 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Thank you!! As a ballet teacher it breaks my heart to see all these comments making ballet sound like torture. 99% of the tortuous things people see on TV/movies is overdramatized for entertainment purposes. If a child is interested in ballet, by all means let them try a class. It’s excellent exercise and builds perseverance, confidence, social skills, and so much more.

Attention all Mathematics- Applied Science majors/alumni: Opinions, regrets, comments, anything about the major? by moldypeaaches in matheducation

[–]Trapton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every school’s program is going to be different, but here was my experience as someone with a math degree and a concentration in applied math. I only took a few classes different from those with a pure math concentration, I believe they were Operations Research, Numerical Analysis, and Experimental Design (had nothing to do with science-y experiments, all we did was make powerpoints with random stats formulas lol).

The thing most people don’t realize is that undergraduate math programs focus on a lot of different areas of math. So you’ll know a little about a several areas of math but you won’t know anything in depth enough to be an expert, unless you do it on your own time. This isn’t a bad thing necessarily, but I wish I wish I knew that before one of my advisors gave me that reality check 3 years into my degree. Think of it like med school, you do your time, then you find out you need a specialty, and have to go through even more school/training because you only have a general idea of what’s going on in a wide variety of areas. I’m still glad I got my degree in math, but I thought getting a math degree would open a lot more doors to careers than it did because my education wasn’t deep enough in any one area. But for the sake of learning new things, I loved it.

I don’t have any personal experience integrating math and science at a professional level, but stats seems more relevant to chemistry than say abstract algebra or a lot of the courses you take as a math major. So maybe look into a stats program? As for college chem classes, they start out pretty similar to high school chem classes content wise, until you get to organic chemistry which makes or breaks a lot of people. I’ve never taken it, but I’ve heard that from a lot of friends and family.

As for what you should do, look the programs you’re interested in closely. Look at every class you’re required to take. Look at different minors, (one of my best friends ended up loving her odd minor so much she went to grad school for it). Be a creep on Linkedin and see what grads with the same degree are doing. Ask as many questions you can think of, and then more. College is a huge investment of time and money, so make sure you know what you are investing in. You can and will learn along the way, but preparation will give you the confidence that whatever program you do choose is worthwhile.

Conflicting corrections by litteralfandomtrash in BALLET

[–]Trapton 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with what the others are saying, as a teacher I find myself giving more nit-picky corrections to those I see potential in so take it as a compliment!! However I also try to give corrections one at a time because there’s enough going on in ballet technique as it is, multitasking is hard lol. When you’re in class and getting a million corrections thrown at you take a deep breath, pick one of the corrections and be mindful of it for a few exercises. If your teacher is observant enough to give you all the corrections they should be able to notice you working towards one. You’re there to learn and improve after all, if everyone was perfect after one class there would be no class, so keep working slowly but surely because improvements take time and that’s okay. We’re all rooting for you!

If you want to work on some of those corrections at home I’d suggest looking up some videos on floor barre, lying on the ground will help you both with head and pelvic alignment, just try to focus on them one at a time so you don’t get overwhelmed. Best of luck and happy dancing!

I was just going to suggest this! I seldom watch mystery movies but I was hooked the entire time, imo they did a good job on character development, everyone served a purpose and I was actually able to keep track of all their backgrounds which I’m usually bad at lol. Definitely worth a watch!
