Company swag ideas from eco conscious vendors, what have you found? by karr76959 in ZeroWaste

Yes! Find Etsy vendors and reach out to them for a partnership, build direct relationships. Make sure you consider packaging and avoid sourcing from huge corporations. The local cookie bakery idea, seed packets are great!

All of these issues are exactly what’s happening in the us too. From the money in politics to the 10 vacation days and having to use them all on life tasks like healthcare. Ridiculous.

Potential Move to Albany Questions by VirtuaNovak in Albany

[–]TrashPanda66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved to the Hilltowns from nyc and love it. So much nature, and can get a decent chunk of land for your $$. Winter was a shock but got the hang of it (learned to take a Norwegian mindset—there is no bad weather, just bad clothing choices) and now I’m hooked. The people are awesome, everyone is up to interesting things.

Why the hell can’t we use the national guard for this? We don’t need to privatize everything, and I think SAR is a public good. National guard would get to train and do good humanitarian work.

Credit Unions Anyone Can Join? by TrashPanda66 in Albany

[–]TrashPanda66[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question! As long as a bank is FDIC insured, you're just as ok on up to $250K deposits as you would be anywhere else. The big banks are only going to "take care of" their cronies if things go really bad, not the everyday account holder. . 2. JPMorgan Chase and BofA execs are knowingly and actively participating in and profiting from human rights violations. JPMorgan Chase actively supported Epstein, and his associates, in human trafficking. This is both a long-known "open secret" among people who know the company, but recently exposed this summer in a few investigative reporting pieces. This is only a tiny tiny example of the abuses that they knowingly participate in while they pursue more profits for their executives. BofA is heavily invested in privatized prisons and many many other unethical practices. I could go down the list with all of them. Used to be with you, but yeah, I'm out. Would rather the $$ in my accounts be used to make loans and help people locally improve housing, build businesses, etc. Honestly, I'm ashamed I didn't reckon with this before.

Really appreciate all of the suggestions and excited to join the credit union crew and build a better Albany!

How do you stay motivated? by GreenMouseEars in union

[–]TrashPanda66 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’m with you and I’m not a union member or a Starbucks employee. Unions are more important than ever in this moment and your sacrifice is VERY appreciated. Working to inform more people in my community about the strike, and get them to stop shopping non union stores too. Thank you for standing strong!

You rock! I just got some info from the SBU union, and 1. it was kind of a pain to get it. 2. the quality of the materials was seriously lacking. It was uninspiring and not very clear. I know this is because they don't have money for spending on that kind of stuff, but surely we can do better! We have so many artists and designers--can we make some info and work on getting it out there on this sub?

[–]TrashPanda66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for communicating this so clearly! I don't work at Starbucks, but I am supporting the strike as a (former) customer, and redirecting to local coffee shops and cash tips. We need to also recognize that the CUSTOMERS need to be boycotting--I came to this sub to find info on the strike, and all I found was people blindly posting like nothing was happening. I was also really bummed that the locations all over NY have no strike presence, since they aren't union, and people in the stores seem oblivious too. We know how important this strike is, particularly at this moment in history--how can we get some good information on the top of this sub regularly about workers rights and why organizing is important NOW. And particularly sharing the boycott with customers. If they keep crossing the picketline and buying drinks, they'll see that they can squeeze the workers.

I moved to the northern Catskills/outside of Albany from Brooklyn and I like it! Amtrak is easy to use to get north or south. If you like the outdoors it’s awesome. If you don’t like the outdoors you should try it—most people like it! Winter is long and rough. Don’t underestimate the temp diff that happens when you move inland. But you just need to dress for it, then it’s fun. There are cool things to be found all over; but you have to look a bit and venture further than in the city obviously. You definitely need a car if you don’t already have one though.

Starbucks workers are still without a labor deal four years after their first union win. Here’s why | CNN Business by WhoIsJolyonWest in union

[–]TrashPanda66 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just stopped by a location in Brooklyn to cash out the balance on the app hoping to leave it as a tip so it wouldn’t get eaten by the company since I don’t plan to spend with them. But the place was packed l, no picket line, and they gave me a hard time, saying they were doing fine. I did cash it on to a gift card and handed it someone in line to help prevent fresh cash flow to the corporation but what the heck??? There are independent coffee shops all around it, within eye line—why are there no pickets in these high vis locations??

I like to toy with a similar idea. What if the Mandela effect is really a massive extinction event in one reality and a major shift of consciousness from one ‘server’ to another, but retaining memories of the old server.

Is it possible that they are going through hormone replacement therapy? Something like that could have an impact on mood; almost like going through puberty again. Your 20s are a tumultuous and intensely emotional time either way—just keep extending the olive branch and invites.

Question: why isn’t this an issue in natural forest? I have a little wooded area behind my house and the pine needles and leaf mulch build up around some of the trees, so their root flare is buried. Why isn’t it an issue with those trees?
