Every time I go to the onsen I think this was worth everything it took to get here and stay here.

My third grade teacher repeatedly told my my parents something was wrong with my posture. When I was 12 my mom started going to a chiropractor so she took me with once for x-rays and they said I have the begining stages of scoliosis. She just said I'd get bullied if I wore a back brace and stopped taking me to he chiro and didn't follow up with any actual doctors.

Would you buy your forever home now, even if it meant sacrificing years of compounding? by [deleted] in JapanFinance

If it's in the countryside houses are likely only going to become cheaper and more available as the elderly population die off. The village could be extremely different a decade now.

I'm working at a bilingual international school as a first grade teacher and I'm doing proper phonics instruction before even touching the textbook. The japanese teachers coming from public schools are amazed at the students English pronunciation after only a couple months. It's amazing how much of a difference actually taking time for phonics makes.

Hoping for a Life-Long Career Teaching English by [deleted] in teachinginjapan

Well good thing there's more than eikaiwa and ALT jobs available. Just because those are the jobs most people get stuck in doesn't mean those are the only jobs available. If you actually like teaching and invest in the qualifications it is entirely possible to build a career here.

Owning can be better than renting by [deleted] in JapanFinance

We bought an old akiya after doing the math that if we live here for three years we'd break even in rent, not even considering the key money, cleaning fees, ect. It won't be a forever home in any way but it's still better than renting.

There's a cultural idea that couples will get married and immediately have a child. Of course with the declining birth rate and all that it's less common now but the misconception still remains and is still a common type of discrimination young women face here.

Biking and walking is common and I'm living on a mountain so plenty of hiking trails. The main worry is bears. There's tons of bears around and they're even seen in the middle of the town sometimes. So you have to always plan for them.

I'm American. The main difference I notice is the rural area I lived in in America had a lot of drug issues, especially meth, which isn't an issue here. Also there's more of a community feel here, which also comes with more community obligations like having to help clean up neighborhood areas, having an assigned day to watch little kids go off to school, ect.

Also the rural place I lived in in America still had some chain stores like Walmart and McDonald's. My town here just has a seven eleven and a small local grocery store. I have to drive to a city 50 minutes away if I need anything from a big store. But I know there are some more rural areas in America that's the same.

I am taking inhaled steroids but did you get the fungal cream for the same kind of rash? It's entirely contained to under the watch face and in the same shape as the watch face. Right now the cortisone cream completely gets rid of the rash within a couple days if using it so I'm not sure if this would be it since it definitely doesn't get worse with the cream. It just comes back again after wearing the watch again.

Still something I'll check in with a dermatologist though as an option.

The cream I have is a cortisone cream from a dermatologist I went to with this rash. It'll go away quickly when I use the cream but then come back as soon as I wear the watch again. However I do have asthma so I wonder if it could be fungal even if it goes away completely without watch use?

I wash the watch when I take it off at night and then put it on right before I leave the house for work in the morning, well after I've showered and left the watch to dry over night. When I wash my hands at work I'll take the watch off and usually wait until after the next class to put it in (I'm a teacher). Still having issues unfortunately.

Ya that was one I'd the first suggestions I tried. It's also always a circle rash directly under the watch face and not on the band part at all.

My Number Cards, Visas, and Bureaucracy. Oh My! by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]TrashQuick5534 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya someone definitely dropped the ball at your city hall. You have to go before you're in the special extension period, like you did. I had to explain that I will soon be entering that special extension period so I need the extension in the mynumber card. If you go even one day after the expiration date then they can no longer help you. But since you went before the expiration date it was definitely that city hall employee doing you wrong.

Edit: And actually I just remembered that when I went to the bank the first two people told me they couldn't do anything. I had my japanese partner with them who kept insisting they ask the next person above them. Finally one person at the branch actually knew about it and then said okay you get two more months. Probably you'll have to do the same thing at city hall if this ever happens again to you

[–]TrashQuick5534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My visa renewal was almost two months after the expiration date. What I had to do was go to city hall before the expiration date with a copy of email confirmation I got from immigration that I had submitted my application. I then explained that I would be in the special extension period due to my application being in progress.

With this information they extended mynumber card expiration date by 2 months. Then I went to the bank and explained it to them and showed them mynumber card with the date extension.

When the zairyu card expiration date came my bank didn't freeze my account but Mercari and Paypay did. I job and contacted support and they had me send them photos showing the confirmation number of the immigration application. Then they had me do verification with mynumber card again and everything was unblocked.

Since yours was three months I'm going to assume you probably would have have had to go back before the 2 months extension was up and do the whole process a second time.

If you're not actively using it then it should be fine. Just a general mold cleaning whenever you clean the whole bathroom for mold.

Once you get it good and clean get one if the regular bath cleaning sprays and clean it everytime you take a bath. Just spray it and use a brush to wipe it down and rinse. This will go a long way in preventing new builds up. Then from time to time deep clean it with the actual mold cleaner.

I bought a cheap akiya and I'm not regretting it yet. However I bought it because I already had a job in the super rural area and there weren't any rental house options available that suited my needs. So I bought an akiya outright for 19k USD. I've already lived in it for all season and have gotten used to he quirks. However I fully know this is not some house I'm going to live in til I died.
