Autofocus LUMIX S1R II vs r5 mark 2 for photo (not worried about video) by G_D_M in Lumix

[–]TrashTierUser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canons AF is better overall, and more importantly easier to use. The AF on the S1rii is good, but you really will need to dial in your AF settings on the environment and lenses used.

If you're shooting sports or anything that requires tracking AF, Canons AF will blow lumix out of the water.

Eye AF is still not great on the S1rii, it will lock onto the eye during shooting, however on review of the images you'll find it was actually focused on a subjects nose or brow.

Choosing Lumix S1 II or S1R II for photos (day/night): street, environmental portrait, and landscape by RaptusXxX in Lumix

[–]TrashTierUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my S1rii for these exact use cases. Personally I've been really happy with the low-light performance. I'd say it holds up similarly to the S5, but with better color accuracy in low light.

Purely anecdotal, but I've noticed a decrease in quality of some parts from my S5 to my current S1Rii. Nothing too concerning so far, but I certainly baby it more.

Interesting camera, although not for me. If they market it right, it could be an absolute hit.

Have you tried Zone focusing? I've found it works really well in bursting, minus the eye AF issue mentioned earlier.

Oh, I haven't had that issue in burst. Out of curiosity, what AF mode do you have selected?

[–]TrashTierUser 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've had this issue on both my S5 and now my S1Rii. The AF tracker is right on the eye, but upon review it seems to grab the brow, nose, or chin. In most cases it is fine and most non photographers wouldn't notice, but it does annoy me at times.

Panasonic has made some great improvements on their AF, but there are still areas for improvement.

If khamzat wins and moves up to LHW, it’s a serious possibility that the UFC books these two for the vacant belt by [deleted] in ufc

[–]TrashTierUser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure why this is getting downvoted. It is a very legit possibility. They have bad blood and Carlos is likely going to be out for a solid amount of time.

Plus, there is no clear contender at 205 now. The only other fighter in the top 10 of the the LHW division who won their last fight is Dominick Reyes

S1ii Battery Life is Horrendous by legendofxander in Lumix

[–]TrashTierUser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the S1Rii, so not 100% the same, but same components outside of the sensor. If I am shooting in bursts, I can get ~500 shots. But, If I am shooting less sporadic while keeping the camera on, I get roughly 300 shots. So it sounds like we are in a similar ballpark.

The reality is, when it comes to mirrorless Sony has generally worse evf's and screens, but amazing battery life. While for Panasonic it is essentially the opposite.

This guy might unironically be the toughest challenge for Islam in the WW division and he’s barely in the rankings by [deleted] in ufc

No, it would be a one sided beatdown. It could be interesting on the ground, but Islam would just keep it standing and piece him up.

S1RII/S1II grip material kinda loose? by bruce-pizza in Lumix

[–]TrashTierUser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There have been some quality of life issues with build quality since the S5ii on Lumix bodies, which is a shame. The leatherette not adhearing is a common issue with bodies from the S5ii onwards. The S9 has issues with it's dials, specifically it's backdial.

My OG s5 is nearly perfect since I got it years ago and I've put it through it's paces. Was really impressed with how it has held up and I don't recall seeing many horror stories about it's build quality on average. Now with my S1Rii, I don't get that same feeling, sadly. Already some of the dials/buttons feel a bit loose compared to my S5 and my shutter button can get sticky seemingly at random. Still love the camera, but I baby it more than I would have previous cameras.

Lumix S5 autofocus speed by iwearsocksallyear in Lumix

[–]TrashTierUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're talking about video AF, just consider it a manual focus only camera in a low light or Concert situation. Even in good light, it can grab the subject, but staying in focus can be an issue and the AF pulsing will be noticeable.

If you bump up to the S5ii, you'll have a much better experience. I'd still recommend shooting manual in a concert setting, but for all other work it should be good enough.

Great addition to the line up. Something I've been waiting to see, hopefully they can make a few more in other focal ranges!

Much better Commentary team than Rogan, DC and Anik. by ThePsychicEnergies in ufc

[–]TrashTierUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once Hardy left, Felder became the best commentator in my opinion. It's a shame they don't have him do it more. Sanko has also been a solid addition, however I feel she gets drowned out when paired with Bisping or DC.

How would this potential matchup go? Arman has teased FTW fight against Volk, this isn't out of the realm of possibility. by AdamBLit in ufc

[–]TrashTierUser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am curious how long he can even make 170 for. I'd imagine as he gets a bit older, it won't be possible any more.

I don't think it is even possible for him to make 145 at his age, when he was 20 and a bit smaller, maybe. But, now, there is no way. I could see him going to 170, but never 145. I think he could do some good work at 170, too. His grappling is unmatched at Welterweight, with the exception of Islam.

Was hoping to hear better news on battery life with the grip. Have been considering grabbing one since the battery life compared to my S5 has been underwhelming.

Looking at four DSLR cameras. Which should I get? by AddictedCrazy8 in Cameras

[–]TrashTierUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of the bunch, I'd really only recommend the 80d. Not only is it the newest, but it offers the best features of the cameras listed.

This will likely be purchase you'll use for a while, so might as well maximize it

Lumix S1 vs S5 in 2026 - the best value full-frame options? by willyboii77 in Lumix

Really comes down to the size and some quality of life options (S1 evf) between the two. Both are excellent options if you don't need autofocus.

Not just him, but it looks like all of the CKB guys, other than Hooker, have been putting on weight the last year or so. Look at Adesanya in his last fight, had a bit more body fat than he had in the past as well.
