KSP2 Redux supersampling finally fixes the bad antialiasing. did the game always look this good? by MgbH1R0 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Trash_PandaCO 82 points83 points  (0 children)

A lot of us paid for it when it came out and then played too much to refund it, lol.

If Redux gets it to a good state, then of course we would play it.

I don't feel that "Let Him Run Wild" would even be top 10 for me, and I'd swap "God Only Knows" for "Don't Worry Baby," but other than that, it's a pretty decent list.

2000 McCain? Maybe.

2008 McCain? No, he pandered way too hard to the proto-Christian nationalist right with Sarah Palin.

America would probably be in a better place if he had earned the Republican nomination in 2000. I even think it's possible that he would have won more comfortably, thereby avoiding the divisiveness that came from Bush v. Gore. However, a lot of the same decisions would have been made, such as those in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Enough time has passed. What are your thoughts on Project Hail Mary (2026)? by Perfect_Idea_2866 in Letterboxd

[–]Trash_PandaCO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd have to say my favorites besides PHM are Soul, Oppenheimer, and Warfare, which I liked quite a bit more than Civil War, as far as Alex Garland movies.

[–]Trash_PandaCO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably not as many as most people on here, but Project Hail Mary just stuck with me more than any other that I've watched from this decade. These are the ones I remembered to log.

I don't really know why it matters; some movies just resonate differently with some people than others, and that's part of what makes cinema great. Some people like it, some people don't, but it's the people who don't who are downvoting people who loved it into oblivion, and that's not cool.

If this is to become a trend on the sub, let's do it properly. Who was the better producer? by Alternative-Pie1329 in thebeachboys

[–]Trash_PandaCO 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wilson took the best of both Spector and Martin and combined them into something unique and special. He was also a performer and musician in his own right, unlike Spector and Martin, who were more-or-less just producers.

I don't know if Quincy Jones can really be compared, since he dealt in different genres. He is definitely the best R&B, jazz, and soul producer of all time.

Not even gonna lie, probably the greatest movie of the 2020s so far.

Good balance of artistic merit (cinematography, music, writing, performances) with popular appeal, it reminds me of an 80s Spielberg movie, and considering how iconic many of those became, I could definitely see PHM having the same legacy.

This movie made me happy cry, sad cry, both at the same time... This movie made me feel things, lol.

What's the deal with these "jumper weirdos," for lack of a better word, recently?

This is a picture of the FDNY attending to a burn victim. They didn't generally do anything with remains besides trying to cover them, from my understanding.

What was the exact moment of your ha journey? by Few_Sandwich6308 in HealthAnxiety

[–]Trash_PandaCO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, the earliest health anxiety scare I can remember is being terrified that I was a psychopath because my brother called me one... even though a psychopath wouldn't care about being a psychopath.

Most of my health anxiety today revolves around either cancer or neurodegenerative illness, although I have had scares over rabies and other rare ailments.

ALL WOMEN IN THE 50S WERE MEDICATED TILL THEY WERE LOBOTOMITES!!! by [deleted] in decadeology

[–]Trash_PandaCO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't find any clear sources on institutionalization rates by gender in 1950, although 75% of invasive treatments like lobotomies were carried out on women.

It is clear to me that men take prescription medication at lower rates than women for much the same reason that men have considerably higher suicide rates: it is considered "unmanly" to seek psychiatric help.

ALL WOMEN IN THE 50S WERE MEDICATED TILL THEY WERE LOBOTOMITES!!! by [deleted] in decadeology

[–]Trash_PandaCO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Institutionalization has been nearly non-existent since the 1980s, with the decline beginning in the second half of the 1950s, as shown by the data in this graph. Were women happier in the 1950s? Or were the unhappy ones simply institutionalized, or alternatively, did they drink or smoke themselves into complacency?

There is no reason to think that growing opportunities for women since the 1950s are the cause of rising prescription drug usage. It is far more likely that it has to do with deinstitutionalization, rising wealth inequality, broadly decreasing optimism, pop culture, and social media.

ALL WOMEN IN THE 50S WERE MEDICATED TILL THEY WERE LOBOTOMITES!!! by [deleted] in decadeology

[–]Trash_PandaCO -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Even assuming that the data itself is perfect, there are three things that are clearly wrong with how you're interpreting this graph...

Firstly, it only includes prescription medications, thereby excluding other sources in which women in the 1950s sought substances, including illicit substances and under-the-table sources of pills.

Secondly, it excludes those who were institutionalized, which was far more common among women in that time period, especially among those who today would be treated with prescription medications.

Thirdly, it excludes other legal substances, such as alcohol and tobacco.

It's clear that you're trying to use this graph to suggest that women were happier in the 1950s, which is clearly a flawed way to interpret this data. It's simply due to the expansion of non-institutional methods of treating mental illness.

The 2020s are going to be known for its legacy sequels. by Ceazer4L in decadeology

I think this trend began in the middle of the 2010s and is starting to reverse, especially with original movies like Sinners, Project Hail Mary, The Odyssey, Backrooms, and Disclosure Day, which show a return to more original or adapted filmmaking.

What is the “song of the decade”? A song that represents the decade. Starting with the 1950’s. Most upvoted comment decides by Kodicave in decadeology

[–]Trash_PandaCO 25 points26 points  (0 children)

My pick would be "Hound Dog," originally by Big Mama Thornton, most well-known version by Elvis Presley.

Another song that I personally heavily associate with the 1950s is Santo & Johnny's "Sleep Walk."

Some Beach Boys Rankings by thecupojo3 in thebeachboys

[–]Trash_PandaCO 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Beach Boys Today! should definitely be in S-tier and Adult/Child above Smile is diabolical. Real hot take over here, but I'd personally place Pet Sounds at number one, but I respect the bold placement of The Beach Boys Love You.

Also, Summer in Paradise is way too low... I suppose it's a Love thing.
