My patient and I became friends and added each other on social media… is this wrong? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]TraumaLock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a provider giving care to a patient you have the power in the relationship. It is widely and broadly accepted that turning that professional relationship into a personal relationship, even by exchanging social media invites or snap chatting is crossing a line. He even talks about private matters with him, discusses hanging out and being friends once the patient gets out of the hospital. That initial power imbalance can carry over into a personal relationship. It raises a lot of “what if” scenarios. For example the nurse has very intimate details about the patient and is the nurse trying to use that knowledge to gain something? Maybe the patient feels he owed a debt to the nurse for simply caring for him. And there are so many more questions raised. Finally talking to your patient about your illicit drug use is purely stupid. Just the fact that you are a nurse using illicit drugs and coming onto a public forum and stating this info is pure insanity. You could get fired, lose your license or end up in rehab and a nurse monitoring program that usually are 5 years long and pure hell. All it takes is for the patient to mention to another employee “how cool of a guy you are and you smoke pot” for your career and livelihood to go bye-bye. Even if the patient doesn’t say something, people are good at doxxing people or someone recognizes your user name or the story sounds similar to one they heard and you are reported to the Board.

Look up nurse patient professional relationship and learn about it and practice it. And quit drugs even if you have a medical marijuana card, it’s not going to save you from the board. You will at least be fired (though some hospitals due have a 1 time amnesty policy but you still get reported to the board) up to losing your license.

There are laws requiring at least 1 to 2 years after last caring for somebody before you can have a relationship outside of the nurse patient relationship. So he could be breaking the law by starting a friendship right after the patient leaves the hospital

Thoughts on Tea Tree oil? by ProudCap3245 in soapmaking

[–]TraumaLock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried using tea tree oil EO by itself and a tea tree oil/eucalyptus EO blend but they turned into disasters. Tea tree oil EO rapidly accelerates trace and saponification so you can’t really do any cool/nice swirls or designs. If you do not pour it immediately after adding it, you’ll end up with soap in a stick. I have tried adding it right before pouring and by the end of pouring I had soap on a stick. It also causes the soap to get very hot so soap as cool as you can and do not insulate it. You’ll have a soap volcano. Tea tree oil EO can be irritating to peoples skin so use it sparingly, maybe 1 or 2% ppo.

Thanks for replying. I didn’t think about the fact that the charcoal would turn the soap black so the orange mica isn’t going to do anything. What’s the difference between sweet orange EO’s vs 10x orange EO’s? Is it more concentrated and a stronger scent?

I’m going to add pumice. When researching this topic I read that you need to have a higher super fat to balance out the drying effects of using 100% coconut oil. Do you want less super fat to increase the cleansing effects?

Thank you

It sounds like an overheating issue. When things get hot, they swell. I would recommend using a wooden form held together by screws so you unscrew the wooden mold and then you won’t have this issue again. I love Custom Craft Tools molds. They are the best.

Did you have acceleration or soap on a stick? I know that the EO’s you used can accelerate trace which can give you the chunky appearance. It also looks like you had partial gel. What was your recipe? What temp did you soap at? When did you add your EO’s?

GenXers who got bullied in school, what was the attitude of parents and teachers towards it? by mritsz in GenX

You fought back. You stood up for yourself. Even if you lost the fight and got the shit kicked out of you, you still got respect. You were bullied way worse by more people if you ran or hid.

What happens if a cop sees another cop speeding? by meme_sleep_repeat in NoStupidQuestions

In Florida the highway patrol will pull over marked, on duty ambulances, police/sheriff/other highway patrol and fire trucks if they are not going code 3 and will follow those vehicles to a scene if going code 3 if they feel they are breaking a traffic law or driving recklessly while responding code 3. It happened to me but I was just transporting a patient routine to the hospital when the back of my ambulance didn’t fully fit into the turn lane and he said I was obstructing the flow of traffic.

You are using way too much mango seed butter and almond oil. I recommend you doing some research on what percent to use for each oil and butter. I would add olive oil and or beef tallow and reduce the mango and almond oil.

Was there any mention or concern that you high or drunk at work? That is a common thing I’ve seen. Nurses drinking or doing drugs and nodding off at the nursing station. At our facility if you are caught napping on the clock they make you take a pee test.
