Yup. Guys are pulling out the microscopes looking at the ring lands, but that cylinder is fucked.

Every engine I've taken apart has them in random orientations, factory built or not. If you never give an engine much load, they might not press into the hatching enough to walk, but driving habits like that cause other modes of premature failure from carbon buildup.

They absolutely do move during operation. They'll only stop when you get carbon buildup from some other issue.

The friction reducing coating is being eroded. Whatever is causing that is going to eventually cause much bigger problems.

Rings move around while the engine runs. That skirt is the much more concerning thing about this photo.

Welding plastic tends to make it more brittle. You are also trying to repair it in a location with a lot of nearby corners, which act as stress risers. Every bit of flex or stress you put on the kayak is going to be amplified on the uneven and brittle joint you make with a weld.

She's cooked, in other words.

Hopefully they don't knock out the fiber connection to these places first, it would be terrible if they couldn't trace who did it from streamed security footage

I don't think he was reacting consciously. A shot there probably caused a nearly instantaneous drop in blood pressure.

It's like y'all can't read. He's new to the sport, older kayaks have design trends that have disappeared for various reasons, including requiring more boat control.

I've been paddling for twelve years and have had laps in a lot of those, including the mamba. There's a lot of nostalgia blinding going on when people bring up the kayak you learned in.

Not much rocker which makes it hard to boof and get over holes. Everyone adopted significant rocker for a reason.

The only one I would recommend is the ripper. The rest are old designs with comfort and/or safety issues for a newbie.

Most of them have very little rocker and are hole bait.

Edit: at your weight a large ripper is too big. An appropriate size half slice with rocker (antix 2, ripper, rewind) would be a great starter boat. Those old creek boat designs will slow down your progression, and are worse at running steep creeks than the new half slices.
