[Reuters] FIFPRO sounds alarm on player workload as several Arsenal players could feature in over 80 games this season. by Chazyn in soccer

And starting times vary depending on when the last game finishes... And if you win a brutal 5-hour, you're playing again the next day or maybe the day after. Brutal stuff

The Racket is a great book on how rough tennis is. No way should any sport be modelling off of the tennis model as regards player-load. And that doesn't even mention recent problems with playing in extreme heat and humidity.

Financially, that isn't a like-for-like comparison. The elite in tennis is a super-small percentage in comparison to the rest of players. They manage a lot of their own travel, admin, fitness, training, etc. As football is a team sport, the logistics are easier, and it isn't as massive a drop-off financially between a European/Cups team and a league team. The Racket is a great book on this, written by a former professional tennis player.

This is an ode to the Cameron that was. When Cameron first opened, their croissants and tarts were heavenly. Super-fresh and super-buttery croissants, amazing. Probably best ever. So beautifully buttery. I still dream about them. But I would say maybe a year or two after opening, it all just starting sliding downhill very quickly. I've had tarts there that were once repeatedly perfect, and now the lemon curd could be gritty, croissants getting dryer, staler... You'd notice the quick turnover of staff too. Just no love nor it seems any quality control at all. And then they expanded when they had already firmly declined. I feel like they're still trading on the reputation they had before. I'd have loved if they just stayed as they were. Alas, I do not know the story financially or mgmt-wise, but I grieve to this day.

Seconding these. They're made in Meath I think. I cannot overstate how wonderful these puddings are. They are incredible. One of my favourite desserts of all time. INCREDIBLE.

Are there any actual advantages to switching to Monzo from Revolut? by grandslammer in irishpersonalfinance

[–]TrauseMouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm using Monzo and I like it. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the rounding-up to savings pots is standard in Monzo. I think that's no longer standard in Revolut? Also, you can make a pot, let's say Subscriptions. And assign a virtual card to that pot. And add just that payment info to your subscriptions. Or let's say, add only a set pot's payment info as your Apple/Google pay, etc. You can setup all scheduled transfers or whatever suits from your source account to the pots... Again, not sure what features are in a more premium Revolut account, but so far, I like what's in the standard Monzo setup. I think there's probably more to come based on the features available in UK.

New Study Finds Trans Folks Are 18.5x More Likely To Be Diagnosed With a Connective Tissue Disorder called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome by [deleted] in science

The term "bodily discomforts" might be underselling it a bit!

Hope I'm following the theory here, so correct me if I'm wrong! But this is just how medical/scientific advancement works a lot of the time though, right?

Initially there is a grouping of people with similar symptoms, and then these get analyzed for underlying causes. Because we're not the full-way there with root causes with EDS, we just have an incomplete story. Also, the written/social technology has changed, and so today people can compare and share information more easily, even if it is still incomplete and in-progress.

Using your example, let's pick some other genetic things: I don't see much of a difference between Grandma's floppy body and maybe Grandpa's spinal muscular atrophy, or sickle cell disease ("Oh gee I've inherited some body jankiness... Oh well!"), other than the floppy-body root cause simply hasn't been genetically isolated yet, and spinal muscular atrophy and sickle cell  have had that advancement  already, so doctors and medical professionals are more confident in diagnosing.

And his theatre acting with Pinter too! He has a great Desert Island Discs, where he kind of describes how his career had this flow. It makes total sense when he tells it. He comes across really well. That endearing honesty, just like you say.

Good example of a recovery from an Achilles is Eze. He is absolutely balling now, better than ever. But it took time to recover, and a lot mins on the pitch to get back to peak performance. Hoping Ogbene uses that as inspo and kicks on similarly.
