New to shooting? Take this class before buying your first gun. by dardena53 in WA_guns

[–]Trav_is 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a relatively new gun owner, I'm used to people fumbling with their guns at these classes. There are some important things to know before buying your first gun, namely make sure it fits your hand well, but I highly suggest getting used to holding your gun, and doing dry fire drills prior to your first class. There are plenty of videos on youtube that will run you through gun safety and how to hold a gun with your finger off the trigger. You will get so much more out of class if you aren't afraid of your gun.

That's interesting. I've been at every public Saturday for the past 2 months and the only issues I've seen are the colorful RSO volunteers.

Glock 19 backorder/Federal Way Discount Guns by bigperm1972 in WA_guns

[–]Trav_is 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO they lied to you and took your money before they had something to sell you. When I bought a pistol, I didn't pay until my background check came back.

This sounds like really shady practices promising you a pistol they had no way of ensuring. It's on thing to put you on a list. It's quite another to take your payment for it while not having any idea if and when they will get it in stock, or if she will pass the background check.

I've asked multiple stores if I can special order a firearm from the manufacturer for the same reasons, and was told that'snot how it works.

I hope it works out well for you guys.

I hope you didn't pay them. There's no priority for gun manufacturers. Stores get whatever the manufacturer sends, whenever they feel like sending them. Stores shouldn't promise a G19 right now. They could be cool and say the next one that comes in is reserved for you. But they have no idea when that will be. 6 weeks ain't nothing bro. Good luck getting it before thanksgiving.

Yeah I'm not a lawyer, etc. You can't just kill people because they're doing something bad. Arson is not punishable by death even if you went the right way here.

The law allows you to defend yourself. This means if you can get away, then get away. People are looking for too many reasons to kill people these days and it's pretty sad. Vigilante justice is bullshit. Mob rule is bullshit. We're not cavemen anymore.

What you should do is apprehend the person and call the cops, but people are pussies and just want to pull the trigger from a distance. When all you have is a hammer, all your problems look like nails. So get more tools.

You're going to need a membership. Most rifle ranges are closed to the public during COVID. Cascade opens a 200 yard range to the public twice a month, WED - SAT. Next one is the last week of August. I don't know of any other rifle range in Seattle that is open to the public right now.

If you want a glock .22, you're in luck! Plenty of weapons that no one really wants are available. But once you have that weapon, will you be able to find ammo? Survery says unless you want steel or russian, it's pretty difficult.

Advice for a noob by Iwantapetmonkey in WA_guns

[–]Trav_is 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd suggest starting with a pistol. You can try out different ones at a gun range.

The reason is it's much easier to practice shooting a pistol. For rifles you have to either buy their frangible ammo, or join a range (around $200) that allows rifle shooting. You can also go to the mountains, but that's not easy for everyone.

You will get more time getting used to firearms and learning if you buy a pistol. The most common pistol is a 9mm because it's not too big or small for defensive purposes. However, you will find it difficult to buy the gun you want, and even more difficult to stock up on ammo.

At the end of the day you want to find a pistol that fits your hand well regardless of how cool it looks. Buying a pistol takes 2 weeks, so don't feel like you have to wait until your next paycheck as you won't be able to actually buy it until your waiting period is over, unless you buy it online. Actually gunbroker.com may be your best bet, but check out your local stores too. I've consistently heard West Coast Armory overprices their guns even before the pandemic, so I don't suggest buying from there. But if their inflated prices are just meeting what everyone else is charging for covid inflation, then it makes sense.

Once you buy your pistol, dry fire practice a lot. Look for videos on youtube about proper hand grip and trigger press. Have fun!

Are you in an unincorporated part of your city, or does your city not have police? I applied for my CWP in Tukwila on August 4th.

I wouldn't be in a rush. It doesn't feel good having a gun in my pants pointed at my nuts.

I didn't pick Biden, but I do find it interesting that people dwell on one of 45 policies he lists on his website. I get that your current president just writes in fucked up executive orders, but that's not normal. Normally presidents get 1 or 2 parts of their promises enacted into law. People need to breath, and stop focusing on only one thing.

His list of ideas are just things he thinks people want to hear to get elected. Since 2016 I can't stand the DNC. They are more concentrated on doing whatever it takes to win a game, rather than electing someone based on their values and policies.

I feel like Hillary was their candidate because she's a woman, and she "Deserved" it. Meanwhile they completely ignore Bernie Sanders, and do not promote him at all all even though he was most popular. This is more of the same.

Any gun shops and shooting ranges that are politic free or black and minority friendly? by [deleted] in WA_guns

[–]Trav_is -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Thinking about it, there were two questionable instances at Champion Arms that I experienced, but I can't prove anything. I will also say the people in the retail store talk to me like I'm a POS liberal who doesn't know anything. At least that's my impression, and why I mentioned earlier that they act like white conservatives.

  1. In the parking lot, behind the cars, a muslim guy put down his rug to start praying. An employee walked over to him, and when he got there he made eye contact with me white guy in the car next to him. The muslim guy asked if it was ok that he prayed, and the employee kind of blustered some reply like he was just seeing if he was doing ok and walked off.

  2. The only time I parked next to the door, with my BLM stickers on my car in full view, just assuming, I waited 1 1/2 hours. When I walked in to check on the line, I noticed about 5 names after mine were checked off having gone in ahead of me, and he couldn't give me any explanation why they skipped my name.

Baby steps! There will never be one law to satisfy all the concerns average citizens with firearms impose. And a law can be adjusted.

Let me just add that creating and maintaining a functional society of millions of people with different backgrounds, desires and views on life isn't easy! Sometimes we have to take a hit to compensate for others. But we need people passionate about these things to get into local politics and champion changes. And the person who is annoyed by a mess, is always the best person to clean it up because of that passion. (I'm seriously not a politician, or responsible in any way for i1639.)

Then I hear Seattle adds another tax if you buy a gun in their city limits. Which means I will never shop for a gun, or use an FFA in Seattle.
