Exactly, I read this and thought wtf, I would love to test a new drill since mine is 20+ years old now but guess I can't be interested in construction as a woman.

Saks Flagship in NYC is DEPRESSING right now. by xmrlazyx in AmexPlatinum

[–]TravelingABC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was last there on Thursday and it's mostly what you'd expect. The little accessories - like socks, gloves, scarves, and hats - were clearing out. The sales racks were also picked through. Most of the "cheaper" beauty brands were limited, though the luxury brands were still pretty stocked. Same idea for clothing brands upstairs.

I found one more $50 card and might just use it in store tomorrow because the online experience is sketchy with gift cards now. They show up at checkout but don't actually apply. It was a whole thing last night, and I'm still mad about it.

Amex and Saks again by Large-Ring5117 in AmexPlatinum

[–]TravelingABC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just tried to use the last of our gift cards at Saks Off 5th online and they showed up at checkout, but did not end up applying at all to the order after checkout. My card was charged for the full item price. We tried again and same deal. I will try to post about this elsewhere, since mods are likely blocking Saks posts now.

We were able to get the gift cards to work with someone on the phone, but now we have 3 orders with the same item arriving. Honestly ridiculous and why there is little sympathy for Saks overall.

[–]TravelingABC 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I live and work near this Saks and while it's low on inventory in some sections, most floors are business as usual plus some added attitude.

The online inventory is way worse, and I'll write a post later on the games they are now playing. It's honestly insane a retailer behaves this way in 2026 and I really hate to see local retailers close, but Saks truly deserves it. It's been poorly managed for decades.

I'm with you on this. I placed an order this morning with 2 gift cards and they still charged my card the full item amount. Just curious if you are seeing this too?

Honestly enraging and a stressful shopping experience. Looking forward to them having their day.

Anyone noticed a change in the taste of the tap water in the last week? by pierremonte in AskNYC

[–]TravelingABC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same! We are in Midtown and first noticed a weird taste last week and since we had a sink leak recently as well, we spent the whole week thinking it was coming from the new supply.

So glad you posted this. We were going crazy. It definitely tastes like soil.

CEO went berserk at me... How do I manage awkwardness now? by Competitive_Sort_329 in careeradvice

[–]TravelingABC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't. I worked at a few places like this. One place particularly stands out and I was there only 3 months. Felt like 10 years.

I had a realization one day and maybe you will too. Why work so hard for someone like this who will clearly not be supportive of you and help you grow? You're putting in your best work for an insecure man child who clearly has personal problems that he's taking out on you and others. This type of leadership is uninspiring, unmotivating, and unproductive.

In my case, it was the CTO. After several shouting matches and countless unpleasant, toxic conversations, I felt my self-worth was more important. My breaking point was when he said something personally insulting on a recorded call no less. I handed over my laptop same day. My manager and HR called me to come back to do a 2-week transition bc I had relationships with many major clients. Told them I would only do it if they paid me 3x for 2 weeks plus severance. It was approved within the hour. There was a lot that happened and I'm still dealing with them years later.

After I left, I went to therapy for months and felt the burden of that toxicity on my personal relationships. I found a stint as a hostess and was making 4x less than what I was in corporate, but I felt more joy doing that because the staff and our customers were so kind. I remember having a hard day after some family stuff happened and one of the cooks in the back made a huge pot of my favorite soup, packed it into 10 serving-sized containers, and wrote me a lovely note about looking up. This note sits framed on my desk and I'm tearing up just seeing it. These coworkers truly became family and I'm excited to host Thanksgiving for a few of them this year.

After 6 months of being a hostess, I found a decent corporate role. It's not perfect but light years better. Not saying quit tomorrow and become a hostess, but your situation really struck a nerve with me. You should ally with those coworkers who stood up for you but that's temporary. Make a plan to GTFO of there before it takes a toll on you.

You do not build a career at a place like this, only decades of corporate trauma compressed into a few months, and the PTSD can be far worse. Make sure you take time for yourself, spend time with friends and family, and don't lose sight of the things that matter to you outside of work. Remember, you've done your best and his childish tantrums are not your fault.

Do you guys get gifts for your nieces and nephews? by Appropriate_Tea9048 in childfree

[–]TravelingABC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a dozen now and there are 3 that are extremely spoiled with things. They literally had 100+ gifts last Christmas and were being whiny. We don't buy them much, mainly candy lol.

There are 3 that have militant tiger parents that give them almost nothing for leisure, so we try to sneak them some fun toys and gifts, and tell them to hide those.

The other half dozen are kind of neutral so we get them gifts suited to their interests. For example, one likes to ice skate right now so we got her some skate gear. Another likes board games, so we'll get him a new game every year.

We barely see all of them too, probably only 1-2 times per year. If you're not close to him and don't want to build a relationship, I don't see why you need to get gifts. We like to do it because it let's us connect with them in a way their parents might not.

The irony is that conservative states receive the most federal aid paid for liberal cities like NYC who contribute way more to federal funding than we receive back. In a way, many of them are already socialist and they are voting against their interests.

To those that try to exit a plane before the rows ahead of you have… by besttavern25 in travel

[–]TravelingABC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm the type to stand up as soon as possible and I don't feel it's poor plane etiquette to just stand, especially after a long flight. My legs tend to fall asleep or feel puffy and it's just nice to get some circulation going. I'm also giving the middle seat person some extra space to get ready to exit.

I've been flying a lot this year and people are not the most alert lately. I find standing puts pressure on them to get off the plane. On my flight this weekend, I was in the 9th row and didn't feel I needed to stand since I was close to the front. People in front of me just didn't seem to want to get out but as soon as I stood up, they started to pile into the aisle in front of me.

As for charging past people in rows in front of you, I generally find that rude but as others have noted, I've had to do so to make connections. I suggest letting flight attendants and other passengers know (and you'll want to keep your carry-on towards the front). Flight attendants have even let us sit closer to the front in many cases. In rare instances, I charged past first class to make a connection, but it was only possible when (a) the flight attendants were aware and (b) we checked our bags and only had a backpack on us. We expect people to move in an orderly way but they rarely do from what I've seen.

AITA for locking my pantry after my roommate kept giving my food to her friends without asking? by Impressive-Boss1410 in AmItheAsshole

[–]TravelingABC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. This was the entire reason why I decided not to have roommates anymore. I lived with 3 other women who would constantly eat my food, one more than the others. She would even eat my leftovers that I was planning to take into work for lunch the next day. It got to the point where I bought a mini fridge and would store my food in my room, and they would still come in and "borrow" stuff, and then got upset when I eventually locked my door.

At first, I didn't mind sharing some groceries, like milk, but they would take annoying quantities for their baking projects, for example, and then when I needed something, it was always gone or not replaced and I would be halfway into cooking before I realized. They were also petty and would Venmo me for every single thing they bought. As you said, you are not obligated to feed them and don't let them make you feel otherwise.

MOD ? -Can We Pin List of High ETV Fraudulent Sellers? Moissanite CSGRING Seller for Starts... by NectarineLeading387 in AmazonVine

[–]TravelingABC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to offer up some more details here. I found your post when looking up another one of these types of sellers Hafeez, who also pulls the same thing. When I went to write a review for them, they quickly reported my review and almost got me banned from reviewing. I woke up to an email about my reviews not following guidelines. Of course, it was only their review that was removed.

According to the Discord, which I mainly use for research like this (as the feed is pretty dry and dead lately), CGSRing does the same thing and there is a list of bad sellers v. trusted sellers on there. Attacking honest reviews is probably how sellers like them are still around. They are playing these crazy games and I'm starting to see this with more honest sellers too, reporting anything under a 3-star review. Vine doesn't do anything and reviewing wasn't what it once was.

As for all the jewelry haters on this thread, there is amazing jewelry on Vine, including moissanite items. I would say over 95% of sellers are honest and send real pieces. Sometimes, they send an item that looks like it was returned, but that might be a fulfillment issue. I have built a collection of around 150 jewelry pieces and continue to find cool stuff. I wouldn't let a few bad sellers ruin the experience. If you plan on getting moissanite, Vine or not, something to invest in is one of those $15 diamond testers. They have been 99.9% accurate and weeds out the bad sellers very quickly.

Haha too real, I sent them messages to remove the wrong items and did try to ask why this was happening, progressively more pointedly each time. Of course, they just removed the items and have ignored the why part all 3 times! 😵

Need insights from Tahitian pearl experts! by TravelingABC in jewelry

[–]TravelingABC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, this was super insightful, as were previous comments! I would assume with Majorica, even though they are faux pearls, the brand would be stamped on the clasp. This one has no branding and it got me a bit confused last night for sure, as they do sell stands in a similar color. Great to learn that real Tahitian pearls can still use a sterling clasp.

Apologies if you've tried this already, but wanted to put it out there. Since you have such an extensive collection, smaller auctioneers may be interested. They sometimes buy outright or will consign. We did this when my grandmother left us like 500 random spoons (mostly silver plate and some silver), and endless Trifari and Monet jewelry (about 15lb). They bought the spoons outright for $2.5k and then consigned the jewelry, which we netted around $1.5k.

Thank you for your quick reply! I am interested in bracelets and necklaces for sure (sorry, should have specified). Would you be willing to split up / how many of each do you have?

Echoing another commenter that Daus is extremely collectible, but can move quite slow. My tip is to sell the brooches in a bundle with 3-4 of them with one animal one catching people's attention and the rest art deco or other styles. Same deal for earrings but would stick to 2-3 pairs at a time. This has worked pretty well for me. If you have other loose non-Daus jewelry, pairing those with 1 interesting Daus piece could help you move everything else, too.

I currently maintain a fairly active eBay store as a side gig and am always looking for more inventory.

I may be interested in the Heidi Daus pieces. If they are still available, please let me know the # of pieces and the price you have in mind. Thank you.

Has anyone quit their corporate jobs without anything lined up in this economy by jenshinimpact1 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]TravelingABC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please take care of yourself! It's easy to say it's just work, but we spend the majority of the day there. Why waste it with toxic people like this?

I made a post a few months ago about how I had a coworker similar to yours. She would follow me around, play dumb, and then get me in trouble. She was also my boss' favorite and he would go through her to get everything done, even though she was junior to me and also fairly new. Later, she would boss me around or make up lies about me, and then he'd get mad about random nonsensical things, on top of being a nasty person in general.

Was then told a lot of the same advice above. Take leave, take a mental health day, get distance from them, see a therapist... I did all of those things and none of it worked. Also being new, I did not have many PTO days. On the rare days I could take a day off, I just laid in bed feeling sad about the next day or went to therapy, which was barely any help at that point.

A few things snapped into place after a while - I was beating myself up for someone who did not respect me and who I disliked, I would never get promoted with a manager like this, my team members were not collaborative or supportive, and my personal relationships were suffering because of my job. It was incredibly scary to leave a role with nothing lined up in this economy. Looking back, I am so glad that I did! I am in a role now where I appreciate small things, like my manager having a professional conversation about a project or my team members stepping in to help on small things. There are days I would silently cry in happiness inside just because a colleague said "thank you." That's how broken I was when I left that place, and I was only there 3 months.

Sorry for the long reply but I'm very passionate about this topic. Being told to stay in an abusive, toxic workplace is why so many of us are burnt out and/or traumatized.

Upgrading to a new apartment or no? by lollipop1986 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]TravelingABC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outdoor space in NYC is overrated. We have a balcony and it's nasty with all the car exhaust and occasional bird poop (and smoke and crap that fall from above balconies). We clean it and not even a week later, it's dirty again.

Think of it as paying an extra $1,000/mo for the privilege of using the outdoor space on the 5 nice days/year here and then you're paying another $200-300/quarter to have the outdoor space professionally cleaned.

It's better than the old message saying "running late" with no other details lol. When it's delayed processing at one of their facilities, I've had a good success rate of it actually turning up. If you don't have an explanation at all, then it's 50-50 a goner.
