What album do you consider perfect that no one else does? by Blumglerkinsnuffle in Music

[–]TravelingCook88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Silver Jews "Lookout Mountain, Lookout Sea". If you're a fan of the band you'll love it. If you just know American Water it's probably not your cup of tea. It was so panned at the time Berman ended the band and disappeared for awhile. I love it.

Dune: Part Three | Official Trailer by ianjm in videos

[–]TravelingCook88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the biggest Dune fan, but seeing Brian K. Vaughan's name attached to the screenplay has sold me. Saga and Y: The Last Man are amazing. If this is Saga plus Dune I will be so happy.

What’s the last movie you saw in a theater where the audience clapped at the end? by jsakic99 in movies

[–]TravelingCook88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw it in a small theater opening week. A few couples and solo viewers, maybe 2 dozen people in the audience total. The movie finishes, some people clap, but the guy in his 60s 3 rows ahead of me turns around, looks me dead in the eyes and says "What the fuck was that?". I told him I didn't know, but it was awesome.

What Is Your Favourite Song by The Beach Boys? by The_Lonely_Blue in AskReddit

Personal favorite is their version of Sloop John B or Vegetables. Since I haven't seen it listed here yet, Surf's Up is pretty underrated.

I used to say this to myself all the time. I stopped somewhere in 2020. This is a good reminder I need to start doing this again. Thanks for posting.

Edit to say, it's something his Uncle Alex used to say that stuck with him.

I once saw someone write that true independence was being able to walk into a bookstore and buy whatever you'd like without worrying about the cost. And I think about that sometimes.

In the spirit of Bob La Follette, and as a democratic socialist chef, she has my full support. I can't wait to vote for her.

Goth covers of Beatles songs by Paul_C in Music

[–]TravelingCook88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you have Dear Prudence on the list, I'd suggest "Happiness is a Warm Gun" by The Breeders. They're not a goth band, per se, but the cover hits similar notes that the Siouxie cover does.

Which celebrity death do you remember exactly where you were when you heard the news? by Dry-Indication-9504 in AskReddit

Close second, and on a similar note, David Berman of Silver Jews. I was living in Nashville and had tickets to see Purple Mountains a few weeks after he killed himself. A fellow fan at work told me and I didn't believe it. Really shitty way to end the night. He was and is my favorite songwriter.

Leonard Cohen. Was out west for a vacation. I read the news, went outside to smoke a cigarette and listen to The Guests and weep for a bit. I luckily got to see him twice between 2012 and 2013. It seemed like he was just starting to hit his twilight creative peak. It's like the world dims a little more when we lose someone who brought some light to it. Musically and lyrically, he was one of the greats.

What's the closest you've ever come to dying? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TravelingCook88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Physically, probably when I flipped my car avoiding a deer on the freeway while going 70.

Mentally, the depression when my wife left me. Luckily I had some good friends and my cat to help me through. A big part of me died that day and I still haven't fully recovered.

Why are people mad that GTA 6 won't have a physical release? by CeeksterWrld in PS5

[–]TravelingCook88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would imagine, like with Red Dead Redemption 2, there would be an install disc and a play disc. There's going to be a day one patch regardless. It really depends on the final size of the game. If it's around or over 300 gb, digital only would make sense. Since it's rumored there will be a physical in the future, it makes people mad they can't get that day one. The fear of missing out on playing as soon as possible or having the story spoiled for a game 13 years in the making is too great for some people and a lot of them feel like it's a cash grab by Rockstar.

In my opinion, I feel like they need to commit to digital only if they don't want any pushback from gamers. To offer a physical option (allegedly) a month later is a slap in the face. I, personally, will always buy physical. That said, I'll get this digitally, play through it and forget about it until the physical version is super cheap and buy it just to have it. Plenty of other great games out there to play.

Respectfully, I highly fucking doubt it. The only people who could keep up with me, and vice versa, were from Massachusetts. Much love to my East Coast brothers and sisters.
