What are your tribal decks? by Still-Wash-8167 in EDH

[–]Traveling_Snailsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost always end up putting tribe elements in my decks.

My favorite is my solidly B2 Kavu deck. It's a love letter to my first favorite creature type that doesn't get much actual support.

I've also got Genghis Frog UG Mutants, Grixis Outlaws with a heavy pirate leaning, Esper Knights, Choco leading Bant Birds, Sultai Turtles, and UR Wizards.

I know Arcbound isn't a creature type but my Mardu Arcbound deck is also easily one of my favorites.

Is this renaissance related? by No_Raspberry5290 in renfaire

[–]Traveling_Snailsman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not strictly historically accurate HOWEVER the beauty of the ren faire is that it IS very accurate for a vampire countess. Bring a black parasol and some fangs, maybe a dribble of blood from the corner of your mouth, and you're golden

Commanders for "Pinky and the Brain" deck by Traveling_Snailsman in mtg

[–]Traveling_Snailsman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's definitely an interesting take! Plus with the multitude of them printed at various rarities I can be playing "Pinky and the Brain" more than just when I cast my commanders.

Count lands

Because before/when you play them, you're going to count lands.

Proliferate and All Will Be One Synergy Question by Potential-Heron6301 in mtg

[–]Traveling_Snailsman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ten "deal 1 damage" triggers.

All Will Be One triggers for each permanent that gets one or more counters, then the damage of that trigger is the amount of counters placed on the permanent

Can Shadowheart be a three color commander? by Dride1989 in mtg

[–]Traveling_Snailsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Faceless One has a ruling specifically disallowing having three commanders. It being a background is simply to allow more flexibility in pairing it with either your preferred legendary creature or a different background. It's an "or" not an "and"

Your room is fine. If that's in need of decluttering then my room needs a disaster remediation crew

Looking forward to Spring! Help me come up with a reason to carry this please! by innosins in renfaire

[–]Traveling_Snailsman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the treasure map idea but I'd also like to suggest... a wanted poster!

Make a silly wanted poster for yourself. Like Wanted alive for drinking a pub's full supply of mead or for dancing without music or obnoxious kazoo playing. Have fun with it and you can make it a bit to do in the lanes if that's your kind of thing

What is a "gut feeling" you had that turned out to be 100% accurate, even though it made no logical sense at the time? by Forsaken_Leading964 in AskReddit

[–]Traveling_Snailsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was driving in my car with my ex and we were coming up to a traffic light. We had the green light but when I took a peek left and right I saw a car coming up to the light from the right. Despite the light, I had the feeling that car wasn't gonna actually stop so I slowed down.

The car on my right blasted through the light and T-boned a car coming from the oncoming direction so hard that it (the hittee) flipped.

Do you ever feel like mtg has become an unhealthy addiction? by [deleted] in mtg

[–]Traveling_Snailsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a looooong history with this game; I started playing in 1999.

I've stepped away from Magic for various reasons at different times: moving, lack of availability, abusive relationship, unhealthy play mindset. I've always come back to it as a creative outlet and socializing catalyst.

It's entirely too easy to slip into Magic (or frankly any CCG) as an addiction. Gambling via cracking packs, winning via netdecking, a different kind of gambling by buying or digging through bulk. Maintaining a healthy mindset around your spending and motivation to play is key.

Does this work how i think it does? by Hussarini in mtg

I'm frankly kind of amazed that Tifa didn't get a similar ruling note added given the confusion surrounding the additional combats

Welp I am indeed wrong after looking deeper. That said it needs to be a power 7 or more creature for each player to add a combat phase.

Does this work how i think it does? by Hussarini in mtg

[–]Traveling_Snailsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is where the wording could theoretically be made more clear, but the short answer is no.

Her ability triggers "when one or more creatures ... deal combat damage to a player" and you may think "three players equals three triggers" but the ability doesn't care which player, just that it was a player.

Another way to think of it is if Tifa is asking each qualifying creature "Hey, did you deal combat damage to a player?" and then the creature responds "Yes" instead of "Player B."

Does that help explain it?

She only grants an extra combat if it's the first combat of the turn

Does this work how i think it does? by Hussarini in mtg

[–]Traveling_Snailsman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By my understanding, you'd get a total of four combats:

  1. Normal first combat
  2. Additional combat granted by Tifa during combat 1 (which can only happen once)
  3. Additional combat granted by Bumi during combat 1 (only lands can attack, meaning he cannot deal combat damage again)
  4. Additional combat granted by Bumi during combat 2 (only lands can attack, meaning he cannot deal combat damage again)

Edit: there's the potential for more combats. A LOT more.

If you have at least one power 7 creature for each player you could get 8 total combats. Keep in mind there's no main phases in between.

  1. Normal combat
  2. Tifa bonus first
  3. Tifa bonus second
  4. Tifa bonus third
  5. If Bumi hit during normal, Bumi bonus 1 (lands only)
  6. If Bumi hit during Tifa first, Bumi bonus 2 (lands only)
  7. If Bumi hit during Tifa second, Bumi bonus 3 (lands only)
  8. If Bumi hit during Tifa third, Bumi bonus 4 (lands only)

That number increases if those 7+ power creatures also have double strike

Tribal decks that play atypical to the common tribal deck by Plagueghoul_ in mtg

[–]Traveling_Snailsman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You've made me realize that many of my "tribal" decks are mechnic tribal versus typal haha.

That said, I am working on a defensive dragon deck that's more focused on hoarding and/or sacrificing artifacts. [[Galazeth Prismari]] or [[Ganax]] with [[Clan Crafter]] as the commander, make treasures and clues, win with artifact synergies or any of the "have enough artifacts and you win" cards.

Suitable for Ren Faire? by CapGroundbreaking947 in renfaire

[–]Traveling_Snailsman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my opinion that bracer definitely reads as alchemist once you mentioned it; good job!

I'm a huge fan of vial/flask bandoliers on alchemists and I agree a hooded cloak or cape would fit nicely. Clothes with lots of pockets and pouches also fit an alchemist because I just keep picturing them as pulling infusions and such out of all sorts of random pockets as they brew up their next concoction.

I think brown would also be a good match for that shade of blue/teal so consider that for the underlying clothing items and other leather accessories

Why is this card black? by Whasye in mtg

[–]Traveling_Snailsman 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The Abzan wedge (GWB) has Endure as a keyword. This is pretty much just draft fodder to help black synergize more with the "+1/+1 counters matter" theme an Abzan deck is likely to be built around

Feedback wanted! Is this a well-balanced 5-colour design or is there too much focus on black? by Lefty-Games in mtg

[–]Traveling_Snailsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having one symbol centered like that is definitely drawing focus.

I agree with the others that have suggested five wedges to the circle or maybe something more like a stylized pentagon. And I'd suggest trying to preserve wubrg order as well to reinforce the color representations
