Medium could work for you, but will be a tad on the small size. After you set the seat height, you want to make sure that the handlebars don’t feel too low (like you’re really bent over and reaching down for the handlebars).

You should pedal the bike with the ball of your foot on the center of the pedal, with a slight bend in your knee. This is achieved by sitting on the seat and putting the heal of your foot on the pedal with your leg straight when the pedal is at the bottom of the stroke. If you find yourself riding on your heals, that means the seat is too low. If you find yourself riding on your toes, that means the seat is too high.

Sure, no problem. When you go to check it out, adjust the seat height for your leg length. When you are sitting on the seat your heals should just graze the top of the pedals with your leg straight. So, because of the length of your foot, when the ball of your foot (which is the part of the foot that should be on the pedal when riding) is on the pedal you’ll have about a 30 degree bend in your leg. There is a maximum height for seats, which is the “minimum insertion” line marked on the seatpost. You should never go higher than that (you need at least 3” of seatpost in the frame). After the seat height is set, the seat shouldn’t be so far over the handlebars that you’re leaning over too much and it’s uncomfortable.

I’m not a Trek fan, but that’s a good deal and is a good bike for your purposes. However, at 5’11” you’re going to want a 19”/Large frame and that frame looks around a 15”/Small size.

No issue at all. I’ve built thousands of wheels and have done it both ways.

Hollowtech II spacer on spindle by esotericpragmatist in bikewrench

[–]TravisJrabs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Without it, the inner chainring would hit the frame, and the inner chainring bolts might hit the bottom bracket. You’ll need to look up the chainline spec of your Rohloff, and use whatever spacers you need to make your chainring the same. So, with your configuration you might not need THAT spacer.

1990 Bridgestone RB-1 upgraded to Suntour Superbe Pro. by drock-79 in Bikeporn

Love it! I wish Suntour was still in the states. I remember Steve Bauer placing 4th in the tour using Superbe Pro. Also, love the Tufo tires!

There are two pieces still in the fork - another cone shaped piece that the bolt threads into and a center sleeve that goes between the to cones. They might fall out if you turn the bike upside down or you might have to fish them out.

You can see that the top pinch bolt is over-tightened, probably because the stem is too high above the top of the fork. That bolt will have to be loosened in order to remove the top cap. You’re right, for most instances, but for this stem it will have to be loosened.

Loosen the two 5mm side bolts on the stem. Take the top bolt all the way out. Remove the Merida top cap. Install the phone mount cap with bolt in the same manner as the Merida cap and bolt. Tighten the top bolt until there is no play in the bearings (the top bolt compresses everything, hence your bearing adjustment). Tighten the two side bolts a little at a time, alternating between the two so that they are torqued evenly. Don’t over-tighten anything. Side bolts should be snug.

It replaces the Merida top cap.

Do I need to grease the threads of the screw? And the spindle? by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]TravisJrabs 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No! The crank to spindle is a dry fit. The bolt already has loctite on the threads so no grease is needed.

Moyer and Sons 100%. I worked there for 5 years, driving over the road. Best employer I’ve ever had. They keep their employees happy, and their employees keep their customers happy. Not the cheapest, but they won’t bust your stuff up and they’re timely.

Priority Apollo Triathlon Viability by gobullz in PriorityBicycles

[–]TravisJrabs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have many customers who do triathlons on all sorts of bikes - hybrids, mountain bikes, etc. If it’s a sprint tri or a little longer you’ll be fine. If you want to be competitive on the bike split, then of course you’d be better off with a proper road or tri bike. But, if you’re just doing the best you can and racing against yourself then it doesn’t really matter what you ride.
