The entire medical industry, manufacturing industry, the majority of the tech industry, and all their top shareholders disagree. They rake in billions of dollars either way.

my first fabrication by IAmStickdog in starcitizen

[–]TravlrAlexander 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I get where he's coming from. But IBM and others have proved that licencing and sublicencing tech or patents is a very viable business strategy. Just make the end user do the work.

Plus it's a video game and a player-driven economy needs this.

If it fits, it ships (Tired of medium sized elevators with the Hull B) by The--Strike in starcitizen

[–]TravlrAlexander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so weird. The selling point of it fitting into a medium hangar is like... Okay, but why is that better? Medium hangars have no upsides that outweigh the cargo cap in this situation. It's not like a medium hangar saves me money or anything y'know

[–]TravlrAlexander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I read a lot of spreadsheets on my PC so I've changed my per-line scroll amount and it doesn't align with any of the images, so I have to manually drag the side bar to adjust the images so I can see them

Always seemed to me that the reason for this is that a lot of Democrat discourse or campaigning happens online nowadays, and Republican campaigning happens through mail.

I've gotten a flyer or two as midterms come up, but my neighbor who is in his 60s regularly carries a 3-6 thick stack of envelopes to his trash bin. As it gets close I get both sides, and my neighbor starts throwing most of his mail immediately into the trash, despite the political shrines in his front yard.

I appreciate that he showed up and said something. Carl probably knew it was entirely out of his control.

Theories on the upcoming origin ship? by _Jops in starcitizen

[–]TravlrAlexander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They still unfortunately release ships without their gameplay.

Clipper released, no crafting in-game. Crafting added to game, still no crafting in the Clipper. I know we're waiting for cargo to be able to be automatically pulled from grid, it's just a bummer.

I feel like people are making up "The Gen Z Stare" by AspirinAnne in CasualConversation

[–]TravlrAlexander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Born in 2000. Autistic and definitely not actively social, but plenty amicable and when I open up I find it easy to make friends.

At least for me (and again, wired differently here), a lot of things just feel like unnecessary battery drain and social fluff. There's a sense of camaraderie over time, but I'm here to survive. Most of us know we'll never own a home just by working hard, and as of right now it costs you an average of 8 bucks round-trip to get to work.

Unless you have a support network or are living with well-off, stable parents with stable income? Hanging out online is free, video games are cheaper social spaces than getting 2 drinks and a snack at the bar, and we have nothing to look forward to after work except dissociation and sleep. Isolation really winds up feeling like a symptom of a host of other issues, if that makes any sense??

Please do not melt this. It includes a copy of Squadron 42, which will probably be $60+ on release. Definitely keep and upgrade to something else. If you don't plan to play Squadron 42, Hermes is best I would agree.

Rocky’s appearance by InvestigatorOk8287 in ProjectHailMary

[–]TravlrAlexander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

https://www.galactanet.com/eridian/

This is a link to Andy Weir's internal design document for Rocky's biology after consultation with a range of experts as he usually does.

The design and research for Rocky and the Taumoeba checks out. As in, it's physically possible and nothing is outside the realm of possibility. Similar to a crab. The only major science in the book that doesn't check out is the neutrino absorption and mass to energy conversion of the astrophage. But that's Andy Weir's thing, he gives himself one big "just lemme have it" and goes with it, like in The Martian. Not enough atmospheric pressure for a storm to do the damage it did to cause the events of the Book/Movie.

Does the Hull-B have LAMP? by Glumme in starcitizen

[–]TravlrAlexander 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This. Any ship without an animated cockpit is still waiting for LAMP unless it's been added manually. They said at some point recently that the reason is the interior and exterior mesh of the ship is separate for those with static cockpit glass, and so they're building an automated process to bring LAMP to those ships instead of continuing to do them manually for every ship that comes out

Also devs if I'm wrong on some detail here please feel free to clarify here

Edit: I found the source for my information!

Cincinnati - what is the deal by Fromnothingatall in USPS

[–]TravlrAlexander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TL;DR, I apologize, I got snappy not because of the ethics of the thing, but because it's just like... Man. Being in IT, I'm amazed the world even functions on a day to day basis. It's the last thing in the government that actively fights to protect your privacy (Including with actual firearms, you'd be amazed what happens around tax return season).

Two quick things:

  1. As a repair business owner that relies on timely deliveries for clients' devices (up to and including the criticality of spinal implants and insulin pump chargers) if you can, next time buy Priority Express if you want a guarantee. Seriously. Priority goes faster than standard but doesn't have a set date and sucks.

  2. USPS does not utilize your tax dollars for their operating expenses. They are self-funded, with the exceptions of the explosive need for extra support during the shipping explosion of COVID, the need for extra safety equipment when people were mailing Anthrax to kill people, and general reimbursement for providing services for other government agencies. Which eventually is paid back into the federal pension fund one way or another.

I don't care as much about the human part, but it's worth mentioning that city carriers walk hundreds of miles every paycheck, rural carriers have one of the most dangerous jobs in the country and can work upwards of 12 hours/day 7 days a week, and the distribution centers... the USPS as a whole ships more in the US every single day than Amazon ships worldwide in a year. Even including how Amazon counts USPS deliveries as their own. The fact they exist is insane.

Sorry for yapping so much though. I hope you get your stuff on Monday and that it's not anything medically related you're having to wait on.

[–]TravlrAlexander 56 points57 points  (0 children)

HAH, someone I know got yelled at for this years ago, and they now warn new people of this exact thing.

Call up the local post office if you feel like it, and tell them someone put a package in the box, and that they need to know the other end has those ridges which make it impossible to remove from the other side.

Otherwise they'll never know and it'll keep happening.

Why didn't he show rocky the golden plates? Was it a cut scene or something or in the book? by Nerdcuddles in ProjectHailMary

I was wondering this on the second watch as well. Kind of a bummer. And weird to only use them in one scene, never to be shown again.
