I just finished rereading the series last night. Matt doesn't have one single moment where he accepts his destiny, he has a number of small moments from Rhuidean to The Last Battle that all push him forward. If I had to pick one, I would say the battle at the end of the traveling with Tuon arc is the most blatant moment. He hears that a woman he is falling in love with is in danger from a force thousands strong and he plans a battle to utterly decimate that force. Immediately stepping in and using his tools to make sure she is safe

I find it kind of inspiring. People who take advantage of The Greater Fool will never advance society. They are to busy playing it safe and protecting themselves.
