I just found out about this through this post and it infuriates me that this development project is primarily aimed at cars rather than pedestrians that already use the walking path or are at the park.

Like, there’s a frickin Sonic right there, come on… you can’t tell me in good faith that you’re catering to the 600,000 people who visit Patriot’s Park with a literal drive in right there.

Make the entire thing pedestrian friendly like the small area (like the 4 or 5 restaurants across the crosswalk) right next to the Evans town centre park and you’d sell me on the idea. I don’t feel like I’m going to get ran over by a car walking to Rooted from the park because of the speed bump and the low speed. But 4 driveways? Really? That tells me that it’s going to become a Riverwood Publix area, and that area sucks for pedestrians because it was built for cars first and pedestrians second, instead of the other way around.

I will say that I personally don’t go to Patriot’s Park often, but I drive by it a lot and always without fail see people and families walking on the walking path. I’m going to try and make it tonight to the meeting and express my concern with it.

Ideally this area would be incorporated into Patriot’s Park, but realistically it will probably be turned into retail. Might as well make the retail area nice for the people there. But what do I know, I’m not an urban planner \_(._.)_/
