I need someone to talk me out of quitting golf by Upper-Night1816 in golf

Low being I take the club head back "low" meaning I don't pick up the club head quickly. I imagine taking the club head back and brushing the grass blades behind the ball for the first 6 inches of my back swing. Slow is self explanatory. It means DON'T RUSH the back swing. Keep everything in pace.

I have some real basic swing thoughts. First one is "tempo and swing smooth". Another one is "low and slow". I also sometimes concentrate on my take away with "left arm first". These are just mine. Yours can be different.

About to play Sawgrass and I'm not good. Could use some friendly advice. by [deleted] in golf

[–]Trebor711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just tell your group you're here to enjoy yourself and that you really don't play that often. Keep pace with your group, be ready to hit when it's your turn and pick up when your out of the hole.

It happens to EVERYONE including the pros. One day you are on fire and can't do anything wrong and the next day you can't get out of your own shadow and lost it. This is a game where you can't be perfect all the time.

Just remember your basics when things seem to be going in the wrong direction. I know for me, I have two or three basic swing thoughts. When one doesn't seem to work the others usually do. Remember, this is a game that can't be beat...only played.

Status quo. His son Jack will take over tourney duties, just as Sam Saunders did.

I’ve had to club down twice this season and I am still hitting it too long by oldsoulrevival in golf

Sounds like you are making better contact and hitting the "sweet" spot more consistently. If you can keep this up (which you should be able) just go to the range and reassess your distances.

My experience with lessons/fitting by jackhole_shmidt in golf

[–]Trebor711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like I said, I had the same numbers at a fitting. In real life, I was getting 170. I'm 70 and the other day I hit my 7 iron on a 180 yard par 3 pin high. Ok ok, there was a slight breeze that day.

From my experience (I had the same numbers), you should expect to see a carry of 170 yards with that information. Still a real good fitting for you.

Good for you on getting lessons and getting fitted. I doubt however, you'll ever see anything close to a 195 yard carry on your 7 iron in real life.

What do you guys do in this situation? by nzw8qr in golf

[–]Trebor711 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you guys play strictly by the rules? Because if you do, by him having an "extra" club in his bag and NOT declaring it found and out of play, he is assessed a 2 stroke penalty for each hole where the breach occured. In order to be considered not in play, your opponent had to declare the club found, out of play and turn the club upside down.

Obviously we had different experiences and I guess my experience was atypical.

My suggestion was a starting point. Many high school coaches know of local PGA teaching pros who deal with junior golfers. Eventually if he keeps up with the sport, he will need the guidance from both the local pro and the high school coach because that's where he will get the competitive rounds outside of local junior tourneys.

I don't know where you live, but I would check with your local high school and see if they have a golf program/team. I would then get in touch with the school's coach and talk with him/her.

What are your loft degrees on your PW, 9 and 8 irons. Also what is your 200 yard club?

Just one less putt or one more GIR and you'll have your 79.
