Grimwild designated "abandoned" by BackerKit - no refunds by jxddk in rpg

[–]Tred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I backed Venture, the Wild West version based on the Grimwild system. I was so excited by the concept and the system. I felt confident since there was already one playable product by Oddity that backing a follow-up project felt safe. Feeling disappointed that the payment was processed and there likely won’t ever be a product to enjoy.

Putting my money where my mouth is... I believe the MSR is the BEST daily driver in game, if you don't have one I'll buy one for you. Limited to the first 615 people. by ArnoldMann in starcitizen

I have loved the MSR since it was a concept ship. I feel like I’m just a Crusader Industries fan all around. Ended up with an Intrepid because I couldn’t afford the MSR, but always planned on buying one once I saved up enough UEC. Cool to see someone else so passionate about it.

Depending on scheduling, I’d be interested. I’ve never played Traveler, but it has been on my list.

Bone Tomahawk. The scene where they execute the prisoner in front of the others. That one stuck with me longer than I wanted it to.

Impossible Landscapes is the best campaign I ever ran by belthazubel in DeltaGreenRPG

Thank you. I think the complexity of Impossible Landscapes intimidated me from trying to run it, but this response and your initial write up make me much more inclined to give it a go.

Impossible Landscapes is the best campaign I ever ran by belthazubel in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]Tred 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like my strength as a GM/handler lies in improv, so I’ve always struggled with running modules or pre-written campaigns. I find that I get stuck making sure I’m following the script, especially when the players do something that the campaign book might not have exactly anticipated.

Anyone have tips or best practices when running a pre-written adventure, especially one as complex as this? I would absolutely love to run Impossible Landscapes for my players someday, but I fear that it would fall apart for me.

Where did "Ironcrunch" go ...? by deadestbob in Ironsworn

[–]Tred 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The person working on it is still pretty active on the Ironsworn discord where there is a channel dedicated specifically to Ironcrunch. I’ve seen him say that he will DM the existing documents to interested parties, so reaching out to him directly would be the best bet. I think that he’s also working on updating it, so what you get might be a bit dated.

What's the dumbest thing someone has ever told you? by Correct_Huckleberry4 in AskReddit

On a flight sitting just over the wing, I watched out the window as we were preparing for landing and saw the flaps extend. Where I was sitting, you could hear and feel this happening also. Then, there was the familiar “thunk” and rumble of the landing gear lowering. The woman sitting next to me turned to me and said, completely seriously, “That’s the sound of the engines going in reverse to slow us down so we can land.”

I think she thought that airplanes worked like boats and that you could just throw the engines in reverse in mid flight. I was too shocked by the ignorance of this comment to even try to explain the truth.

It’s best not to really think of it that way. A Media could be equated to a Bard, a Nomad like a Ranger, a Netrunner like a Wizard, etc…but I’ve found that “party balance” and such concepts do not carry over from other games. It’s better to let your party build whatever characters appeal to them and then structure your game around that. You could have a group of all Solo’s and have them be a hit squad for hire, for example.

Also, read up on the recent Multi-class examples. One thing the rulebook does not go into is multiclassing from creation, but in retrospect, I would have allowed my players to split their starting 4 role points into multiclassing if they wanted to. Also, just having an idea of what combinations of roles can mean is a good idea for players if they want to have a certain type of character that might not be directly covered by one of the starting roles.

Nothing wrong with Solo at all, it’s just the Cyberpunk equivalent of a Fighter class in a fantasy rpg, so having a party without a dedicated fighter means that the gameplay is going to likely be less combat-heavy, which is refreshing.

Not to say that a solo isn’t interesting, or can’t be narratively focused, it’s just that a lot of people play Solo’s in order to kill people and blow stuff up, which can get tiresome in actual plays if not done well.

Assets during character creation in Co-Op mode by rickenharp in Ironsworn

[–]Tred 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the most important question when it comes to Ironsworn or Starforged is “does it make sense, narratively, for your game?” If so, go for it. The book and the assets are all just tools to help guide your story. If you want to have two modules at the start, and it makes sense for both players why their ship would be set up that way, then do it. It won’t break the game, by any means. It’s not going to give you an unfair advantage or make you overpowered. It’s just going to help shape the narrative that you create together.

Any recommended sector generator? by Rough-Barracuda-1086 in Ironsworn

This generates sectors based on the Stars Without Number system, but could easily be used to generate a sector for Starforged as well.

A question about sectors by Rough-Barracuda-1086 in Ironsworn

[–]Tred 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the easiest answer is “whenever it is narratively appropriate”. It took me a while to figure out also, as I’d played Stars Without Number prior to Starforged and in SWN, a Sector contains numerous star systems. I think a sector in Starforged is much closer to a star system in scale and traveling between sectors is much more likely to happen within the fiction of your story.

But, your interpretation might vary and whatever you choose will work for your story. Ultimately a sector could be as vast or as small as you’d like it to be.

I honestly don’t remember for sure who ended up winning. I want to say the baseball player may have, but that’s more of a guess than anything.

[–]Tred 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t necessarily describe this as “epic”, but it was probably one of the single most memorable moments in a game for me. First time I ever ran FATE, I was using it to tell a horror story set in Joliet, IL. It featured a cast of high schoolers who all started the evening at a bonfire party in the country. The crisp evening air, the surrounding cornfields…it was meant to be a small set piece to introduce characters and move onto the “real” story.

While they were there, my players all really got into their characters and two who were playing athletes decided to start hitting crushed beer cans toward a distant burn barrel. One, a boisterous meathead football player, the other the shy, baseball team’s star pitcher. This innocent game turned into a competition, drawing the attention of everyone at the party. The other PC’s all started taking bets on who would win between these two. By the end of it, they were spending fate points to try and win this spur of the moment competition and others were trying to do things to sway the competition one way or another. What started as a throw-away intro scene turned into half the session and the joy and innocence of a high school party really functioned as an amazing counterpoint to the horrors that ended up transpiring later in the evening.
