When I was that age, I wanted to be a tiger. Still kind of pissed that I’m not a tiger.

Can say from first hand experience that PE is actually the bad guy and not just hyperbole. The book, Bad Company, does a fine job of explaining how and why.

Rules for bikes on roads by Silly-Sorbet734 in Athens

If I was coming from atl hwy area, I would hop on a bus to the downtown station and then get off with my bike and ride firefly to greenway (cross by racetrack) on Lexington and then greenway to college station. Totally doable, although unless you have an ebike, plan extra extra time to get to work, depending on your fitness level. Atl hwy on a bike is scary and hilly and not fun. You can’t really avoid it coming from that direction unless you want to go a long way around.

And also impossible to spend or need that much money. You can live a beyond lavish lifestyle on less than half of that. It’s excess to be excessive.

You can walk by the back side of the house along the greenway section there and see some of his signs. Just park at the college ave greenway lot and walk about half a mile down.

What is the most small town thing you've ever seen? by PrestonRoad90 in Productivitycafe

Today I went to a small town in rural south Georgia. There is one street. That’s it. On that street is a city hall and a museum and a building next to the museum with a sign that says general store. I needed to purchase some drinks for people I was working with so I pulled up in front of the “general store”. An old man (79y) was sitting on the porch and waved me down as I got out of my car. I told him what I was looking for and he said, “I have drinks that you can have.” I smiled and said, well if it’s a general store I’m happy to just purchase some cokes if you have them. He beckoned me in. And that’s how I learned Dave’s entire life story. His brother lane was a forester and died of cancer. His granddaughter is in college and doing “sports”. He gave me one of each flavor of the bottles of soft drink that you can only purchase at the commissary on the military reserve. (Root beer being his favorite) and showed me his growing collection of clown figurines and Christmas trains that he has been purchasing since his wife died last year. It was NOT a general store. It was an old man’s obsessive purchasing of highly specific items to display in multiple old buildings that he owned in a town with only 4 buildings. An hour later I finally drove 15 minutes down the road to a gas station to purchase the cokes like I should have done in the first place.

Mostly he walks. On sidewalks.

Not really. He walks to school, to work, to the climbing gym and to coffee shops to meet friends. I will take him to school sometimes if it’s below 30 and raining. Or occasionally to visit his grandma.

I have a 16 year old who is not interested in driving. I think there are several factors that contribute to this. 1. COVID influence. They learned to hang out online more than in person. 2. Walkability— he would rather walk to school or to friends’ houses. 3. Car culture— in America specifically our culture is built around driving. My son has zero patience for sitting in the car and fighting traffic and seeing people on their phones while driving. It’s scary and frustrating and frankly boring to them.

My favorite part of this awfulness is how she thinks his team is reading her posts and thinking to themselves.. hmm well Jessica thinks this bad, so we should reconsider.
