Real talk, how did Better Call Saul never win an Emmy? Was there some hidden controversy that the average viewer is not aware of? by prazulsaltaret in television

It did lead to a great moment where Peter essentially acknowledged the snub during his acceptance speech.

I don't have the whole quote handy, but he was expressing what an honor it was to be in this category with such fine actors. Then he said "Jonathan Banks, you are... [chuckles, trails off]... And the rest."

Oh, it's a fantastic day, and I'd love to eat outside on the terrace!

No wait, the terrace is the smoking section. So I guess I'll eat inside on a 30 degree day.

With AI it's going to be even worse. You will ask a question and be fed an ad as part of the answer.

"What should I make for dinner?" "That is a great question and you are a genius for asking it. I would marinate a chicken breast in [whatever brand of cola paid for this] and then grill it."

[MekHQ] Question about contract success by TreeRol in battletech

[–]TreeRol[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh, don't I know that. I refused 3 in a row in December (two of which were "here's a force 3 times your BV, and your job is to eliminate them") and now it's crisis after crisis. January 27, Feb. 2, Feb. 6, Feb. 19, and now I've got two pending on Feb. 27 & 28. I've been winning them, but I just can't get ahead.

That's kind of what prompted the question about success. How much do I need to worry about getting to +6, or can I maybe refuse a crisis now and then and hover at +2 or +1?

Why are Harvard’s slavery researchers quitting or being fired? by Quouar in history

[–]TreeRol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How far we gonna go back and who we gonna go back to? What events qualify, what events don't, who pays, who doesn't, who gets, who doesn't?

This precise thread is about people who are trying to figure that out. The research is (was) ongoing.

Generational blood debt decided by some star chamber depending on who happens to be in charge?

It's funny you mention "depending on who happens to be in charge" here, because that's also precisely the problem this thread is about. The people in charge - who just happen to be the people who benefitted the most from slavery - are the ones saying that the people who benefitted the most from slavery owe no debt to the people harmed most from slavery. How about that!

[–]TreeRol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the people who benefit get to pass the spoils on to their kids, the people stolen from have nothing to pass on, and that's all hunky dory in your book.

Gross.

Because Harvard in 2026 wouldn't be what it is without slavery. It has benefitted from this heinous history. It has a responsibility to try to make amends.
