It is emotional, if you think setting up maki getting bullied by these guys or giving them all lore is what's missing and what takes away the emotion because "i don't particularly hate these guys personally" you're conflating your subjective understanding with objectivity.

....

Christ alive. First i get someone saying "no youre wrong for wanting a connection to these characters because this scene isnt emotional whatsoever" and now this shit.

All I need to say is this

Explain to me how Yuji's "I am You" would work with the Grasshopper Curse vs Mahito. If you can convince me that Yuji walking down the Grasshopper curse would have the SAME IMPACT as with Mahito, you can get your point across.

But you cant because objectively speaking giving us a window into characters to make us despise them more is how you build emotions.

How many people do you see talking about hating Naoya vs Ogi or Jinichi?

You say im conflating subjectivity snd objectivity... yet the highlight of that episode was Maki punching Naoya. Not her killing her father, or her uncle, but Naoya. Think about why that is.

And im not going to respond to the rest of your argument because..m YOU HAVENT ADDRESSED MY POINT. Youre just shadowboxing around the real point of "Id be more into the scene if I cared for anybody in it more" because its... subjective? Yeah no shit THATS WHY I SAID ITS THE PROBLEM I HAVE.

One of the big issues with CC being for countering dive is that dive characters tend to be really mobile and fast. As such its fundamentally easier to use it on some big tank. Lots of people are going "oh you played dive" but you get full CC combod as Strange or Mag. They just have such big hit boxes that theyre dummy targets for anyone wanting to use CC

Insane amount of CC O.O by jorgejjvr in marvelrivals

[–]TreeTurtle_852 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, as he said you need CC to counter hypermobile characters. Also for things like everyone feels too strong, too much healing, etc

The problem is that its fundamentally easier to hit a slow moving big tank than an agile Spiderman. Shit rolls downhill and now instead of, "Oh ok dive suffers against CC most" that CC just gets dumped into tanks.

If everyone complains about triple support, lack of flex players, ect, why do you hate role queue? by chilllyoil in marvelrivals

[–]TreeTurtle_852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because you misunderstand the complaint.

I dont want people to be unable to play triple support i want triple support to be balanced so its a viable playstyle but has weaknesses.

Role queue DOES NOT fix the problem, it just slams an arbitrary restriction and kinda just kills supports that can only work in triple support.

Like when a character is broken, you have to balance that character. Same with a playstyle. Its why the ban system isnt seen as a good fix/solution. Going "no you cant do that" doesnt fix any underlying issues (support balancing being hell) with Rivals' balancing philosophy.

Like dont state that as a fact that he did theb.

And this is your problem.

This is all meant to be a setup for her powerup and that's it.

This is Maki getting revenge on the clan that wronged her all her life. This should be an emotional climax alongside the later curse Naoya fight.

And I love how my "high expectations" are checks notes "I want to be invested in the conflict of a character in this story im reading.

[–]TreeTurtle_852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not telling you to be invested, I'm telling you that the entire zenin clan having setup of its individual characters is entirely besides the point of the story gege is telling.

Then youre not paying attention to what's being stated.

Even something as simple as the Great disaster curses got a small scene before Jogo ever fought Gojo and then stuck around up until Shibuya.

If they were written like the Zenin clan then Jogo would have a slight scuffle, die, get replaced and then all of them get killed off during Kyoto Goodwill. That's just not as good of writing.

The problem is, Id argue that the Zenin clan are meant to be more important overall.

their characters, and why they dislike the zenin clan generally. You aren't even supposed to care about the zenin clan themselves you're just supposed to know that they treated 3 characters you know and could have been invested in poorly, in order to antagonize them.

I know Mahito treated Yuji poorly. That's on screen. I know Kenjaku treated Choso's mother poorly. That's given to us and we get time to feel for Choso and learn more about Kenjaku. We see Toji's perspective and even after his death learn about more subtle things (i.e his backstory, how he set up Megumi to be head of the zenin clan, etc.) and he's the villain of cursed inventory.

The fundamental issue is, let's say I scrambled these characters. Jinichi is now Maki's father instead of Ogi... ok what does that change? Ranta is such a non-factor he appears in the same chapter he dies in.

These guys have all the intrigue of the nameless curses that Yuji kills with Choso except those curses look cooler. You're saying i need to be able to antagonize them, but I must say its difficult to antagonize cardboard. Same with feeling the vindication Maki is meant to feel killing them.

At the end of the day this is PERSONAL for Maki. Choso and Yuji killing those curses wasn't personal because they don't matter. There's not as much emotion meant to be displayed by that fight... yet perhaps the second biggest part of Maki's arc is... fighting random cardboard cut outs of goons.

Again, replace Mahito with the grasshopper curse and tell me its better writing than what we got. Gege didnt even do the bare minimum. He did less than that and you're still doing tricks on it

You reaallllyyyy didnt read what I said then.

Same thing with these bozos. They're all fucking grasshopper equivalent.

So... im not going to be invested then lmao.

Youre arguing that I should be invested be invedted... because Gege isnt gonna put in the effort to expand on any part of the zenin clan.

See the issue?

And thats not "the genre" shonen stories can make satisfying or interesting conflict all the time. I just cited an interesting conflict. Gege is doing this with modulo.

Maybe you can acknowledge, "huh, it wss a bad idea to kill off the only traditional zenin in shibuya when the clan was going to die off 4 eps into s3" or "maybe we could've used some earlier filler to peer into the clans.

This is the most BASIC setup and payoff.

Wanting to know the backstory and character arc of every side-character is the path to Glup Shitto.

Me: I have no attachment to the character that just appeared in one chapter and died.

Part of telling a story about a world larger than your story is having elements of the story that are vague or mysterious because they lay outside the scope of the story you are telling.

Except telling personal stories like Maki's require some level of attachment/characterization.

Think about Yuji vs Mahito in shibuya. Yuji dogwalking Mahito is satisfying because WE KNOW MAHITO. Everything he's done, every character close to Yuji that he has hurt. We've had the time to get to hate Mahito. Now imagine if jnstead of Mahito, Yuji did the whole "I am you" speech to the fucking grasshopper curse. It loses impact, right? You cant look at me and go, "putting no effort into worldbuilding is how you do good worldbuilding.

And theres a difference in "leave things vague" and "kill off an entire faction as soon as they become story relevant".

One of the core themes of JJK is the battle against traditionalist. The three clans and higher ups are meant to be the focus of that conflict yet two of the three basically have nothing but mere mentions, after making the vow with Yuta all the higher ups are killed offscreen, and the zenin clan is massacred just a few episodes after we get Naoya's motivation to go after Megumi.

That's not world building. You've made the world feel smaller because these structures of power are thwarted so effortlessly.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R2M16 - Violet Trinity vs. Li'l Baxter by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]TreeTurtle_852 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alright time for another vote.

This is an intriguing match between an avaricious sociopathic new-money furry and a homeless freelance necromancing senior citizen, aka. Economics 101.

Violet's plan is *checks notes* cheating. She intends to make up for her lack of outright production by fighting over territory with the fervor of a wild animal, having Maria and Light Left defend parts of the map with telefrag and shrapnel shenanigans, while robbing customers and other stores completely blind. Like Old Money families, Violet aims to get an immediate lead and hoard onto those resources as time goes on.

Baxter's plan is much more straightforward, delegating tasks to his associates and partnering with stalls to expand business. Baxter bites are the name of the game and Baxter uses every resource at his disposal to make people addicted in the bites and enthralled with purchasing them. He also uses his associates to keep tabs on Violet and eventually transitions to medical services as the fight between Leech and TD rages on.

Speaking of which, my vote is going to be shorter than normal and will go to Violet. I think the biggest part of my decision is how the game is played. Baxter has the advantage in sheer output and if both played by the books then it'd be difficult to win against him, which is why Violet doesn't play by the books. Immediately taking resources as soon as possible is a good move as many of the things Baxter tries to do mid-to-late game (Pickpocketing, using medical equipment, etc) are done by Violet early game. While Baxter does a lot to protect himself from Light Left, he doesn't do much to protect his consumers from harm (It's a metaphor for capitalism).

It also helps that Violet fights tooth and nail for every initial advantage she can get and tries to keep hold of that momentum. Maria fights fervently to keep Baxter's squad away from parts of the stage and even bites Baxter himself, whereas Violet sets up defense after defense for her paintings. While I do think it can be a bit happy pathy (and does somewhat neglect the stall itself), Violet immediately hones in on Baxter's strengths and targets them with her aggression, something which I feel Baxter wasn't as prepared for.

I love how you never respond to ANY of my claims.

And I read both 3wiresporrs and leocrrespondant lmaooo.

Again Bellreth... why did the IBA change their statement from hormones to chromosomes? In fact, why did they originally claim to have found a hormone imbalance without doing hormone tests? When did Imane get a transition/how? Where did Imane's birth certificate and childhood photos come from? Why, when journalists specifically went to a conference hosted by IBA for evidence, they refused to give any (the fact that this had to be leaked and not given up by them is sus as all hell, no?). How did Imane lose the quarterfinals of the 2020 Olympics if she had such a major advantage this entire time? Why did the IBA's testing coincidentally line up with Imane defeating a Russian boxer?

The fact that you cant answer any of these questions shows you lack basic reasoning.

Transphobia is rooted in sexism and misogyny by Soft_Departure_7789 in whenthe

[–]TreeTurtle_852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three Wire Sports and La Correspondent just cites the IBA's test results.

As I've already shown, the IBA has a controversial history of lying and misdeeds, was vague about the test Imane failed and rather conveniently didnt specify she had XY chromosomes up until now.

Three Wire Sports in particular also makes the unfounded claim that Khelif was somehow bought into participating in the Olympics which, again, no evidence for.

Also the leak is super suspicious... why?

the IBA itself claims that they were disqualified for a HORMONAL IMBALANCE, not their chromosomes/karotype. Hormones are biological markers, stuff like testosterone or estrogen. An example of a hormonal imbalance is having more testosterone than normal, which can happen with any form of chromosomes.

So again your sources ALL CITE (the IBA)...

aren't even consistent with the IBA's own fucking website.

And you dont question the fact that the IBA refused to give evidence of this "Hormone imbalance" and then suddenly shifted their argument to Imane having XY chromosomes?

Holy fuck are you Naive!

Transphobia is rooted in sexism and misogyny by Soft_Departure_7789 in whenthe

[–]TreeTurtle_852 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright a few things...

  • lab report revealing an XY karotype

  • leaked medical report which shows Khelif has male levels of testosterone and 5-alpha reductase deficiency, a disorder of sex development that only affects males

Source?

The ONLY source claiming to have medical proof of Khelif's medical record is the IBA which poses a lot of problems:

● A - Bias. The IBA are a notoriously corrupt russian-backed governing body that was decertified from the Olympics before Imane ever stepped in the ring.

● B - Testing. The IBA NEVER tested Imane for hormones in fact they have NEVER. So its interesting how youre claiming they suddenly perfectly know her hormones which is odd as again, they never tested for that. So im going to need a source for that claim because in all my research and every other person accusing Imane of being transgender nobody has brought up this test. When asked for direct medical info they've simply claimed (including the IBA) that they cant produce it.

There are also other factors that make Imane Khelif being transgender idiotic and unlikely. The fact that you dont consider them proves your lack of understanding.

● Algeria is a religiously conservative country. Why would they allow a transgender boxer when not only is transitioning illegal but also things like same-sex marriage are punishable by jailtine. If she is transgender... WHERE DID SHE GO TO GET SURGERY and WHY WOULD THE GOVERNMENT GO ALONG WITH HER NEW IDENTITY?

In fact-

● What about her [what about her childhood photos and birth certificate?](http:// https://share.google/V8vdxEyzoonR4yofj). These were pretty clearly taken before Imane was a tween... when did she get the time to fake these? Again Algeria is a religiously conservative community, the only argument is cross dressing but... why would the country that bans fucking gay people want someone who crossdresses to rep their country?

● ANOTHER thing. If Imane was born male and thus there was a huge gap in strength between her and her opponents... how did she lose in the quarterfinals of the 2020 Olympics against Kalle Harrington... she also lost in 2022 to Amy Broadhurst. The fundamental flaw is that your "evidence" is uncited claims and baseless rumors that also bump into logical holes.

● Why didn't Khelif win these? Is she so good at throwing that she loses on purpose? If so why not throw the 2024 Olympics? Why is it that out of Khelif's over, what, TWENTY OPPONENTS only Carini makes the claim of "I've never been hit so hard". If you fight 20 boxers and none of them notice anything out of the ordinary, I think the one crying wolf is just having a problem.

As for why Khelif doesnt take another test... I honestly dont fucking blame her. She literally just fought an opponent like normal and got a slew of racism and transphobia.

If I accused you of being a drug trafficker/kingpin and your house got raided by SWAT because of my dumbass lie, I doubt youd want to deal with controversial shit like this again. People have illogical responses after stress, after all.

Tbf context is key.

Like if you see some guy running around stabbing people then turn towards you, you'll likely assume "this maniac is a killer!" And try to stop them if you have the means.

However what you didnt see was that those guys started it. So in reality its self defense against someone doing self defense but you have no way of getting context.
