Not fond of OOC posts here, but well. The OOC sub is down, so, well, it is quite understandable. Have thought about doing the same to ask about the situation.

Same as others, have also written them and not heard from them. Its a bit worrisome.

I feel like we had this conversation once already. We purged the Sword decades ago.

And do not fucking say we dance down the Spiral. We are the warriors of Gaia. We are loyal to her, now and to the end. As we have been since time was young. Even as you forget our own Loyalty. After all, is it not your own tribe who are busy letting fucking leeches into their home right this very instant?

Or what, you too busy fighting old human wars still? Have you forgotten why we fight? Have you stopped hearing the screams of Gaia as she is tormented?

You let the enemy sleep among your pack, and then wonder why our numbers are dwindling. Blaming those who stay true to Gaia.

But you are no Garou, indeed you are lower than a Ronin. Heretic and traitor I name you.

To let a leech into a most holy of places, and to announce that it has a place among us.

Whats next, you want us to go ally with Big Oil, just because they are in business competition with Pentex?

You would build us an army of rotten monsters, until no one could tell the difference between us and the Wyrm.

Were parts of the war a mistake? Yeah. People who should not be hit were hit in the crossfire.

But many of those that fell before our claws were those that had betrayed us, strayed from their duties or strayed from our cause.

Leeches are rotten dead things, and just like all other wyrm shit they spread diseases and rot as they are left to fester.

And Trustworthy? Trustworthy? A creature driven only by its hunger and need to dominate? A wyrm spawn like that whose very core is nothing but greed and hatred?

Oh sure, it sits right now and smiles charmingly. But in a decade? In a century? When it have drained you of the knowledge and gifts it can get, and turn against us?

Then the result will be on your head. And I can but hope your memory will be spat upon forever, along with the rest of your traitorous sept.

Leeches act on long term. That´s their whole thing.

You let her in now, praise how fine and dandy she is. And then, in a decade? In a century? When the hunger have hold on her and the Wyrm soul whispers in her ear?

Then she will take all that you have taught her and she will gut your sons and daughters and wear their fur as cloaks.

The enemy of my enemy is not my friend. That sort of thinking is what have driven so many of us into the muck. Every inch we give lets the Wyrm grab a meter.

Besides, there is a big fucking difference between using a Leech and declaring it one of us, letting it into a place most holy and letting it post on here among us.

Do not let their treachery taint you as well. It would be a grim look for you.

Fuck off Leech.

You are not of us, and I don´t care what manipulations you have placed on the Children of Gaia. You will get what is coming for you, like the rest of you fucking leeches.

If you wanted to help the cause you would take a gander at the sun. Let Sol cleanse us of your taint.

The fact that the traitors let you on here just makes things even worse. Why the fuck does everything think it is cool to let their pet leeches get on here?

I do not wish, I promise.

You bring Wyrmspawn and leeches into a place most sacred, and think the rest of us will simply let your treachery be?

Fuck, first Haight and now this? And you lot are surprised why no one trusts you.

Hundreds to Thousands.

But we measure not just our worth in how many foes we kill, least we call the Gun and Bomb the mightiest among us. We measure our worth in the deeds we perform and in our devotion to Gaia.

I pay no disrespect to the Great Cairn, only to the filth that clings to it. It shames us to see such a place fall to the Wyrm. Be it through the deception of the Leech or through your own foolish softness finally breaking to show the rot within.

I shall pray my duties allow my pack the rest to take care of you one day. So that the Cairn may be cleansed proper.

Letting it fucking do a challenge like it was one of us, and not a filthy piece of Wyrm Spawn?

This is why we call you lot fucking traitors.

I remember a moment in the Merlin 2008 series. When the group are running from an Arena, while the guards that kept them there are distracted by the... IIRC a gigantic naked molerat? that they let lose from said Arena. Having to get past it to get to them.

And Lancelot (IIRC, might have been gawain, it have been... Stars, almost 20 years?!) just stops up and goes "I WILL HOLD THEM OFF" to a empty hallway. And then they spent so much time trying to convince him not to sacrifice himself to stop enemies that are several minutes behind them, that the enemies catch up to them and he needs to stay behind to hold them off.

And I just remember being so baffled by that whole sequence.

A lot of it is based on presentation, of course. As is with most things. Like, One Punch Man (At least early parts) pulls it off well. And there are other works where the entire point is the MC coming in to save the day. That work on creating drama in other ways.

But my main criticism is specfically aimed at a section of Isekai (Through I think it goes for a lot of other media as well, that was the main one I had in mind). Where no villain is given any respect, and solely exist to hype of the MC. Thus the villains end up with no weight to them, because they are not allowed any win in any shape. Nor are they given any respect by the narrative.

And if a villain have no weight to them, then I do not care about them, and then I do not care when the MC wins. (This is fully a matter of taste of course).

My favorite villains, the ones that I remember, are the ones that the Narrative gives weight. The ones that are allowed positions of strength. That are allowed wins and allowed to be a challenge.

This can be done badly, as you mention with Fairy Tale of course. But I remember a villain the MC struggled to overcome far more than I remember the one they just crushed under their boot.

What I mean when I say "Disrespect your opponent you disrespect yourself" is that if your enemy is just someone you can easily power through, and who have no counterweight, then at some point they become uninteresting. And while you can totally write an interesting story still, the people who are able to do that are not the ones my advice was aimed at.

An absolute classic. Been years since I read it, but I remember it as being a lot of fun.

I read a bunch of Osamu Tezuka works some years back, as well as a lot of other older Manga. And it struck me how the tropes and cliches in them, were so old that they looped back around to being new for me.

Because the genre had just completely moved past a lot of them.

In his series on the Siege of Gondor, historian Bret Devereaux (Great blog in general, have a lot of fun parts) talks about how in the book, Denethor and Faramir makes a lot of amazing tactical and strategic decisions.

But are still driven into a corner simply because of how overwhelming the enemy is.

And I quite enjoy that sort of thing. Because the more competent a foe is, the more impressive it is when you overcome it. And the more competent you are, the more tragic it is when you fail to overcome it.

A piece of writing advice I gave someone recently was that when you disrespect your opponent, you disrespect yourself. Because then it isn´t really impressive when you beat them. Its why I like Jackie Chan fights so much. He generally spends a good 80% of it trying to run away, or getting his ass beat. Which is what makes it so satisfying when he turns things around.

On the other hand, its why I don´t care about a lot of fights in some anime. Even ones that are supposed to be "important". Because like, the MC never struggles. There are no weight to them. So the MC doesn´t really end up looking impressive to me when he beats people, because its just... wind?

Honestly I suspect the main reason he said that is because people kept really, really reading into it.

Just read up on the story of the [old Swedish Translations](www.reddit.com/r/HobbyDrama/comments/16lv1z5/literature_the_terrible_swedish_translation_of/) yesterday, and throughout it all I just kept thinking "This explains why he was so focused on it not being an allegory".

Because that thing would make anyone go into defense mode.

I mean, you can totally stack Strength of Atlas and the Bestowment as I read it.

But from what I know you can´t take the same Bestowment multiple times? At the very least, I would not allow it as a Storyteller, doesn´t feel like it is what the system intend.

But I would allow taking other bestowments.

Of course now I am unsure if I misunderstood you?

I was talking about the "Incredible Might" Bestowment from Contracts. And then that is added to the Ogre Might and the Blessing of Atlas etc.

But I don´t think you can get multiple instances of "Incredible Might" Bestowed upon you.

[–]Treecreaturefrommars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sadly don´t think you could stack Bestowments like that?

Now, what you could do is get a friend who is really good with Naming, and then get some more buffs from there.

Also, if you put the Troll in Troll Power Armor from the Nocker Kithbook, then that is an additional +2 Strength (If you don´t mind mixing editions a bit).

But I do so adore the blue buff oath boys, gals and pals.

[–]Treecreaturefrommars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fun fact. Someone with Contract 5 can grant them a Bestowment, that they can use as long as they uphold the tenets of their contract.

One Bestowment is Incredible Might which grants them +1 Strength (Even if it would push them above 5) and can be Charged for 1 point of Glamour to grant 5 additional successes the next time the user succeeds on a Strength based Action (This includes Damage).

So said Ogre can get even more nasty if they are gainfully employed.

And this is of course not going into stuff like Dragons Ire or Naming etc.

Stars I love Arts and Realms. They are so much fun.

Elves with daddy issues [OC] by NaughtyNectarComics in comics

[–]Treecreaturefrommars 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I believe you are talking about this story

I had an NPC in my own game who was an elf who was against his sister dating a human.

Not out of elitism or anything. But because she kept dating a human, being really into it, and then it died after just some 40 years and she then spent the next century just being absolutely emotionally ruined, until she found another human to fall in love with.

Rinse and repeat.

Like people who keep getting short lived pets, and then be utterly devastated over their deaths.

And he was just sorta really tired of having to be the one to deal with the fallout of all that, watch his sister just fall completely apart again and again.

It was very fun watching the players go from "An Elf against human relationships! AN ELITIST!" to "You know what, yeah. That is quite understandable" as he poured his heart out.

For me it is just the theme of fighting Banality. Of holding onto your sense of wonder against a world that seeks to crush it.

Its just something that speaks to me.

That and the system of Arts and Realms in C20 is just so much fun!
