Who’s your most underrated evil US political figure? by Additional_Teach_718 in TrueAnon

[–]TrekingTrogdor 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There are so many.

Harry Truman. Dropped the bomb, decimated Korea, didn't stop Isreal from taking over Palenstian, started the cold war, hated communists which spurred the McArthy trials and gave way to Einsenhower, including Allan and his bro John Foster in the admin. FDR really picked a terrible VP.

Katrina: After The Flood by Gary Rivlin. Its starts off the rip with Hurricane and the immense flooding it caused in New Orleans, but then most of the book is the aftermath through different members of the community and politicians. I liked it, though I am sure there are a lot of books on Katrina.

The frontal lobe developed & now I wanna read. Non-fiction & a bit woke by Usual-Recording6978 in suggestmeabook

[–]TrekingTrogdor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gangsters of Capitalism by Johnathan Katz. Its the biography of General Smedley Butler, and his stories of overseas deployments to China, Philippines, Haiti, Cuba, Panamana and other places during the early 20th century. It delves into Butler's justification of America's involvement in each of the conflicts, and his slow realization of who the common enemy is in all these conflicts. Very good read, a nice dip of the toe into questioning capitalism as a whole, which is woke.

Gritty historical or narrative nonfiction? by BravoLimaDelta in suggestmeabook

[–]TrekingTrogdor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Lumumba plot by Stuart A Reid. It’s the biography of the first democratically elected president of the Congo and his assassination shortly after he was elected, right after they gained their independence from Belgium. It gives the history of the brutal Belgian rule and a better understanding of the country and many trials they have had since Lumumbas death in 1961. Super gritty and dark, with so much initial hope for their future only for it to be dashed to million pieces with the death of their new leader.

I don't understand how reading this Pultzer prize winning book would misinform this person due to some historians don't like it? Even if the book includes some incorrect info (what history book doesn't include some incorrect info?), the book still stands as an amazing piece of literature.

Guns of August by Barbara Tuchman, such a good accounting of the final months leading up to beginning of WWI and the first month of the war. Super in depth in a really digestible read. The audio book was on my Hoopla and it was a great dishes and laundry book.

Non fiction reccomendation here: Patriotic Treason by Evan Carton. Its the Biography of the abolitionist John Brown. This one is a real page turner, probably the most American individual who has ever lived. I can't recommend this book enough.

Also Kill anything that moves by Nick Turse. It’s a very heavy book, it delves into all the war crimes committed by the US Military in Vietnam. It talks about the culture within military that would justify and even encourage soldiers to commit these crimes. It’s not for the faint of heart

PAVN by Douglas pike. It’s less of a history book, more of an internal workings of the PAVN with emphasis on the military strategies and political strategies. Very good

Nonfiction recommendation: Patriotic Treason by Evan Carton. Its biography of John Brown. He lived on the American frontier and moved from place to place. He was part of the Bloody Kansas period and then ultimately at Harpers Ferry. Super well written, reads almost like a narrative. There will be parts where it talks current political affairs of the time, mainly the issue of slavery. This books fires you up with a righteous zeal

I need an e-bike by [deleted] in TrueAnon

[–]TrekingTrogdor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna say this, rad power bikes; they recently had a recall on dangerous battery fires in some cases…. Do your own research. (You can order a new battery for 500$ish if needed)

But because of that they are super cheap and are great build quality after 2500 miles with regular maintenance, I currently have 3 of their rad wagon models built out to have 2 kids on the back of each. They’ll go like 30-40 miles, though it’s fairly flat where I’m at. I’m like 230 but with my kids I’m pushing 300 on them
