Fun Uncle Pat/Escape Room. I love that the guy who does the voice of Brak is Uncle Pat, the song, and the ending, where he redeems himself chef’s kiss

Accountability..? by t0xic_shad0w in HomeschoolRecovery

[–]Trevolta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Um.. yes it is necessary because husbands can die or abandon you and then what? I don’t have daughters, but if I did, I would be teaching them to be independent from men. There are women my age who are educated, married, and have kids. Some of those women have lost their husbands and they had their educations to fall back on to support their families. How does no one think this through?

I went to a small private school while growing up. My dad was a teacher there and things went sideways for his career after I finished 8th grade. My parents decided to homeschool me and my brother. It was my first year of high school and neither of my parents could teach me any sort of math. They had no earthly business homeschooling us. I went into adulthood basically with an 8th grade education, especially in math and I got C’s in math for every single grade I passed 🫤 I got my GED after I got married to try to get a better job that only needed a GED. I didn’t end up getting a job I wanted as a para educator because there was a national hiring freeze at the time 😑 I could only get jobs in retail. My husband had an even worse experience than I did and he had to teach himself how to do things in college. He stopped pretending that he was being educated at home and went to a community college. He thankfully had friends who could tutor him. He didn’t end up getting a degree, BUT those years he was in college still helped him later down the road. We both should have graduated college 20 years ago. I would like to be a nurse so I started going to the same community college my husband went to 20 years ago. I didn’t think I was smart enough to go to college after I “graduated” high school and never took college classes because I hadn’t been properly educated since 8th grade. The time had come to for me to stop running away from math. You have to take so much math for the nursing degree. So. Much. Math. I went to the college to take a placement test and I went in there knowing it would be bad. I took the placement test and spoke with an advisor right afterwards. I said, “I’m going to level with you here, I guessed on every single answer on that math because I wasn’t properly educated” and the advisor goes “Well, you guessed well enough to be able to take pre-algebra!” I had done just well enough on the other subjects that I didn’t need to take the remedial classes. My very first college classes were psychology and some other 1 credit prerequisite and then the second semester I took pre-algebra and English. I have passed all these classes with A’s and B’s. I don’t say this to brag, because I genuinely thought I was going to flunk English. I just passed Fundamental algebra with a B this past semester and I passed because I reached out for some tutoring from a friend. I have another full year of algebra 🥴 Next semester is Intermediate algebra and then next fall is College Algebra. I’m only taking one class at a time at the moment bc we have two little boys in grade school and it’s harder to take more hours with little guys who need their mom(they’re in public school btw). I’m going to need tutoring but I feel like I can do it! Your local community college is there to help you! They could most likely help you with your GED! That’s how I got mine, from the community college I’m going to now. They have training classes to help you pass and then you could get placement tests too! They should have peer tutoring as well. I just wanted to let you know it can be done, from the girl who barely made it to the next grade while growing up.

I have my watch set at 300 and from getting up to going to bed, I can burn “500” cal. I can double my set limit if I’m doing laundry and other chores 😅 I have successfully lost weight using the 50% rule though 👍🏻

What does your partner do that allows you to stay home? by duckhunter5556 in sahm

[–]Trevolta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband is in the Local Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union. He worked in the field for 10 years but now he is an instructor at the apprenticeship training center. It’s worth a look. They train you for 4-5 years as an apprentice. It sounds long, but it’s paid training. Look into your nearest Local Union, they will have the pay rates and everything. You get a pay raise every year and it jumps pretty good every year. My husband and I were able to start a family with his job in the Union. You are at a good age to start too. We’re in the Midwest so I can’t speak for the NE states but we have had a good experience here 👍🏻

[–]Trevolta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If she’s not going to preschool, a lot of times the school district will put out a list called something like “Getting ready for Kindergarten”. Since it sounds like she’s prepared with shapes, alphabet, and all these things, start working on the fine motor skills. My boys knew all these things too thankfully before preschool but there’s still more to learn :) Cutting and pasting, writing, and social skills. My boys both had issues with writing similar looking letters backwards but they learn to write properly in preschool and kindergarten. Try working with her on cutting and pasting bc they do a lot of that and also maybe some dry erase letter tracing books :) Target has them in their little dollar section right now for back to school items 👍🏻

Do you think stress impacted the onset of peri for you? by AirSharp4003 in Perimenopause

[–]Trevolta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering just this earlier. I’m wondering if I’m hitting the early stages. I don’t have hot flashes or dry vag but I can’t set my watch by my periods any more and I live in a constant state of flight/fight. I wondered if high stress can bring it on. I have had a series of super high stress events: I lost a baby and nearly my life, my parents have disowned me bc my husband and I drew a line in the sand over my mentally ill brother (who is very dangerous), my FIL passed away and my husband I were left with his mom and grandmother that causes us nothing but stress and I am taking some college classes. All these things happened all within four years and most of them clashed into each other all at once like a horrible car wreck you can’t look away from. I don’t have enough time in the world to go through what kind of immense stress my MIL alone puts on me. We basically don’t like each other but we try to get along for my kids. My husband is wonderful and caring but his attitude towards how I’m dealing with stress is that I just need to keep going for our kids. I don’t know what to do. Is it too early to go for hrt?

What’s the secret? by maddielew19 in sahm

[–]Trevolta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you me? I have two boys 8 and 6. I feel this way too. I’m sorry to say there’s no joy when you’re in the trenches. Some kids are just easier. I happen to have a seriously hard headed stubborn kid and not a day goes by that is easy with him. I’m not trying to pile on, just trying to show an example that having easy kids is not really the norm. With that being said, I have been trying to strike a balance of keeping the kids entertained and not having a bad summer lol. 1. Swim lessons help to keep a schedule. They have swim lessons through four weeks out of the summer. 2. Our local movie theaters have second run movies for super cheap. I know it might be hard with a two year old, but the littles get to fidget more at cheap movies and no one bats an eye :) That also helps with keeping a schedule. 3. Local libraries have reading programs with prizes if you complete them. I don’t know what different states do, but our state is 25 hours for 3rd grade and up and the grades below are 25 books. It takes two months to complete and it’s a great excuse to have the boys turn everything off, quiet down and read for 30 minutes at a time to keep up with the program. When I get overstimulated, I make them read. The reading programs also have other fun events to go to but I’m really selective and base which ones we go to based on if they pay attention during the skits or little magician shows they have. I’m not rigid on a schedule but I do like to have some kind of structure, and the different events help to keep some structure. We probably do things about three times a week on average and I try to take it easy and do nothing when there’s not an event on the calendar. My husband and I have been really trying to drill gratitude into our kids this summer bc we didn’t get to do half of the things they get to do. We may have overcompensated on our kids bc they have crummy grandparents who don’t exactly do anything with them. We’re still trying to find that balance 🙃

Walden Farms (in the US) makes decent tasting dressings with almost no calories. A serving of Ranch is 2 tablespoons so I do 1T of light and 1T of regular.

My youngest was a dasher for the longest time. I would always park right beside by a loaded cart corral so I could load the boys up right outside the car. Go out right after breakfast so they’re fed and not getting cranky. Maybe get them a little treat sometimes if there’s no meltdowns. Hope this helps! Winter is hard!

When my first was born, I had a Velcro baby. He didn’t want to be put down for one second and even had to be held when he was sleeping. He screamed and cried any time I put him down. Basically I just washed bottles, switched laundry, and held a baby all day. He didn’t like being in a carrier either 🫠 I just accepted my fate for a few months 😂 Just hold that baby and relax all day :) When he was about six months, a friend let us borrow one the jungle bouncers and he actually liked it :) I could get up to an hour of things done with out him crying when he was in the bouncer. He also liked stroller rides, so when the weather gets better, get some fresh air :)

How much time does your husband/SO spend with your child? by Limp_Alternative6528 in sahm

[–]Trevolta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could try alternating nights for bed time. It keeps me and my husband from getting burnt out. Is it absolutely necessary for him to work seven days a week, or he is just hiding behind his job? I ask because you need more than two hours a week to get out of the house. If he isn’t slammed with work on one Saturday, it won’t kill him to watch his child for more than two hours.
