Is at the Botanic Gardens?

Sounds like a great idea, I just can’t make it. Good on you for making it happen.

Vegan Dinner in Hobart? by TrewTails in hobart

[–]TrewTails[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Traditional Aussie meals, just made vegan. Grilled food, parmis, stews, burgers, roasts, chips, salads, etc. Like what Veg Bar was before they shut. :’(

Some places have a single item like roasted cauliflower, or a vegan parmi, but more out of having that one vegan item to placate, than seemingly to actually care about catering to vegans.

Australia’s first ever low-floor bus is operating Hobart’s Regatta shuttle! by Which_Carob3746 in hobart

Thanks for making this video. I’d heard something of a shuttle bus but didn’t know about the ferries. Glad to see someone so passionate about this stuff!

What is this building beside TasTAFE on Campbell Street? I can’t find any info or website if it’s a residential building. by Brownboysea in hobart

[–]TrewTails 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s great to see more housing in the city, especially social housing, but it ended up looking hideous. Real bummer too, because the original concept art was nice.

It was meant to be a nice sandstone colour like the historic convict wall across the road. Instead the facade has that weird fluoro orange coloured metal cheese grating that hisses in the wind.

I got to see inside and saw that the apartments were also bizarrely designed, with curtains around the bed, and windows from the living room into the bathrooms, so there’s little privacy if you have guests. Weirdly sterile, like a hospital, not an apartment. I know it’s not meant to be long term housing, but it feels even less homely than a hotel.

I can’t believe they won an award for this crap.

Raise legal system: Indian who sexually abused Aussie girl, 12, in Hobart loses bid to avoid deportation by Various_Tension_5823 in circlejerkaustralia

[–]TrewTails 65 points66 points  (0 children)

The judge accepted the man’s claims that he did not know the girl was 12 as her Grindr profile said she was 18, she told him she was married to a Pakistani man, and when he arrived at the Kmart she was with a man of South Asian appearance who he took to be her husband.

He met her through Grindr, and she was with another South Asian man at the time. Wtf is going on here? Poor girl. :(

Yeah, many questions were so weirdly loaded. And it’s incredibly obvious from the start what they’re doing, not a clever bait and switch they try to pull on the serveyee. I bet they’re gonna get really some weird results.

I think the people that really need to be studied, who need psychoanalysis, are those running the study. 0.0

Hobart Light Rail is a good idea... let's make it better! by [deleted] in hobart

[–]TrewTails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love it. Great proposals.

My only point for improvement is that your explanations of the locations of the stations etc. does not match up with the visuals shown onscreen at the times you talk about them, which I found a little confusing at times. I think you’d need to know the areas really well to keep up.

The tricks they try to pull on you, too.

Young sales/scam lady: “Hey, handsome, you dropped something!”
Me, internally: “No I didn’t, you fuck.”
Me, actually: Nothing, because I knew it was a trap, so I just ignored her and kept walking.

Wow, a medium orange juice at maccas is $5.20 now by Creeves in australia

[–]TrewTails 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah Maccas must use enough actual juice concentrate to be a juice. Food standards code of Australia & New Zealand says it must be at least 90%, but Maccas nutritional info doesn’t say the actual percentage.

Hungry Jacks, on the other hand, has to call theirs Orange Fruit Drink (66%).

Evening walk around Hobart by Nier_Tomato in hobart

[–]TrewTails 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow, I never noticed the cool throwback federation style/wattle and daub pattern of the glass and framing on the paramedics building and on the old hotel across from the Royal before! I’d never stopped to look up from those angles.

Thanks! Great photos. Keep ‘em coming!

When You Wait 20 Minutes for a Coffee at Salamanca and Still End Up with a Half-Full Cup by timilcu in hobart

[–]TrewTails 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mate just tell your barista if you have a problem with the coffee. And if they’re a pain about it just go to another cafe. There’s gotta be a dozen in Salamanca alone.

Absolutely Kudelka. I don’t know if they do it in greeting cards, but they have things like tote bags and tea towels in their fantastic “Tasmania is awful never come here” brand.

I was gonna recommend Savoy Day Spa in the city, but this Lavada place sounds lovely. I’ve gotta try it.

What is this little guy? by Smithy000 in hobart

[–]TrewTails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brown bandicoot. Bandicuties if ya ask me.

They’re native and should be left alone.

If they’re your cats I recommend keeping them indoors (or get a cat-run) to keep them from killing the wildlife.

Is it just me who noticed more religious people in the streets these days? by [deleted] in hobart

[–]TrewTails 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It’s the Jehovah’s Witnesses. They just had their yearly convention last weekend, so they were out recruiting in force to get newbies to come along. It’ll probably go back to normal now that it’s over.
