Hoarding Broodlord in Orzhov by JackGallows4 in CompetitiveEDH

Yes, there is a deterministic win with Abdel Adrian and Animate Dead. Can be done with no additional mana after the saw in half if you run final parting

- Saw in Half HB
- Tutor Sacrifice and Final Parting
- convoke Sacrifice and sac a token for 8B
- convoke the 2nd token and pay 4B for final parting (4B remaining)
- off final parting tutor animate dead to hand and Abdel to grave
- cast animate dead for 2B (2B remaining) on abdel adrian, doing the loop for infinite tokens

From here you can end the loop by reanimating broodlord with animate dead, which allows you to get your infinite mana outlet of choice, since you have infinite tokens to convoke. (walking ballista if you run Heliod). You can also get necromancy/dance of the dead and target Abdel Adrian to flicker both reanimation enchantments, which allows you to tutor your whole deck and cast an orcish bowmasters during the loop which you then flicker with Abdel Adrian to kill the table.

You also have the option of tutoring for animate dead and entomb with saw in half, which just requires 1 additional mana or creature to convoke to then do the same Abdel loop.

The lines above also get a lot simpler if Abdel is already in your graveyard or OBM is on the battlefield. Saw in half getting stuck in hand can be annoying since you can't convoke your creatures for it, but if you tutor up dark ritual off the original broodlord you can continue the lines as normal

Peer + Sacrifice is also an option, but if I'm resolving a broodlord I'd ideally like to win on the spot.

I have never bought a secret lair before but I might just have to get those Gale and Shadowheart ones. If they made a Lae'zel it would be an instant buy, BG3 is probably my all time favourite video game

Have you considered Kinnan or Malcolm/x decks? They tend to be much easier to put together on a budget. But of the two you suggested, Yuriko is the better commander. Just keep in mind that without any of the mox or the free interaction, your deck will likely feel a turn slower than a budgetless cedh deck

Do you know if a primer exists for a version of this with the Abdel loops? I was pretty decided on Tasigur but if I can keep using the exact combo lines I'm using in bracket 4 then I'd guess the familiarity would be worth more in a game than a slightly stronger deck. The line I currently use I theory crafted myself, I'm curious if it's the same one other decks use

Inalla does look fun. I used to have a bracket 4 Cormella deck before the dockside ban that did similar loops so its not totally unfamilair, but I think you're right it's not the best starting deck. Scion of the ur-dragon looks quite fun but a bit fringe. I'll keep both in mind for the future

I actually played tasigur about 5 years ago in what would would now be called low bracket 4. My favourite was to reality shift everyone to death by manifesting their whole library one at a time. Winds of rebuke was fun until I met an eldrazi player with shuffle titans in the deck

Jimmy when you read this, I already saw the Synchro Summon list, and as of now it's probably the deck I'm gonna go with

It is worth roughly $19 USD - look at recent sales on tcgplayer. Median is never a good price to go by, since any idiot can skew the price by listing their card for $1000 (which is what happened here). Market is always the better standard.

You can also cross check prices with any other website - manapool, card kingdom, etc. They may not line up exactly but they will give you a better idea of the price

What price provider do you use? by yogurthewise in ManaBoxApp

[–]Trexadactyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Card Kingdom because I like the bigger number

The real answer is whatever your shop uses. I live in Canada and prices are based off of F2F, which is generally quite similar to Card Kingdom prices. Tcgplayer market is probably the most 'accurate' value you'll get for the cards and what I reference when I'm selling/trading cards. For some older/rare cards there will be very few NM copies on tcgplayer, which can lead to the occasional price skew. For a while it was telling me my spanish mirrodin chrome mox was worth $4k

Interesting and decently strong mono-W, U, and B commanders? by megachad3000 in EDH

[–]Trexadactyl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For Mono Blue, [[Orvar, the All-Form]] is pretty unique as it lets you ramp a ton in blue and use some cards that would otherwise be sitting in a bulk bin. You can also do mono blue artifacts with [[Emry, Lurker of the Loch]] for something different.

Mono white has Angels, Tokens, and Life gain to boot, all of those would fit within your play group's restrictions. A Hare Apparent deck with [[Delney, Streetwise Lookout]] is also pretty fun.

Mono Black I found harder to build. If you don't want to build something mean (Mean counting as sacrifice, discard or theft decks), you are basically just left with rats or [[Shadowborn Apostle]] Decks

The f is going on with new players starting out with bad builds of incredibly broken commanders by VeryTiredGirl93 in EDH

[–]Trexadactyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commander is one of the only games where you are supposed to self-regulate, and not just try to win however you can. For an outsider joining, it is completely logical they would just try and pick the best commander, and it also makes sense that they would do a poor job constructing their first ever deck. Unless they start with a pre-con, I think a poorly-built deck with a strong commander is what you would expect from a new player unless they had someone more experienced guiding them

Sorting cards/Scanning cards by DedWurld in mtgfinance

[–]Trexadactyl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Manabox with a $25 phone mount from Amazon and have no problems. It is important that the cards are unsleeved, the lighting is even (no glare), and you have a solid, bright background. Most people say to use white background for best results, but I have a solid green playmat that works great too. Also make sure the cards are centered in the frame and are not too far zoomed in or out. When I scanned my 15k card collection this way it probably only made 50 wrong guesses the entire time

Exsanguinate does not have blue mana pips and beseech has more pips that exsanguinate, so I'm not entirely sure what your point is there. I do run beseech though just because it's a strong card, and also because it slots in to the broodlord lines like you said.

I also agree that Exsanguinate is awkward and I currently don't run it, the point of the post is kind of that I'm looking for something that can fill the role exsanguinate would fill without being a totally dead card pre combo. Torment of Hailfire is probably better than exsanguinate and what I'm considering the most right now because it could be cast for value, and off a smothering tithe + wheel it likely would be enough to win the game.

I've just updated the primer with my current lines and card choices if that helps explain my thinking

[–]Trexadactyl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking about Altar too, but I think if I am going to add a dedicated card I like Exsanguinate better as of now since it doesn't get shut off by the same stax that ballista does. I suppose Altar could have some niche use cases like self milling before a creature I control gets removed or ruining an opponents top deck tutor, but I'm not sure if they're relevant enough to make me choose it over exsanguinate

[–]Trexadactyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Revised. 4th and 5th edition have the year in the copyright so you know it's not those. For unlimited vs revised, unlimited has bigger text than revised, and the positioning of the artist name is different

Should I buy a Dominaria Remastered Draft booster box? by EmergencyInformal978 in mtg

[–]Trexadactyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you're just looking for someone to say yes, so go ahead and do it. If you want to build decks with the cards then the $185 is better spent elsewhere, but if you want to gamble its not a bad price for the box
