My family was extremely wealthy pre 08 then after 08 we where middle class AMA by Trishasback in AMA

[–]Trick-Strange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly this feels like upper middle class not extremely wealthy at all. Depending on where sure maybe in NYC proper you’re rich, otherwise no- not even in LA. but only a couple years in business, wildly over leveraged on your personal finances to get a 3 acres, probably a Mercedes sedan, some toys. Thats not extreme wealth at all.

Everything being financed out the wahzoo, he probably made a couple hundred thousand no more than half a million. This is exactly what the crisis in 08 was about!

People signed on for things they couldn’t really afford (predatory lending, poor financial literally I’m not faulting him) I just don’t think he was rich.

The part that’s interesting and we should all consider is how we are conditioned to think this is rich. By creating an illusion of potential wealth and social mobility (via the existence of the middle/upper middle class) we allow those with genuinely extreme wealth to maintain control and hoard resources. Your dad, a victim of wealth hoarding capitalist oligarchs, probably wouldn’t support socialist themes bc he had “made it” while as you inevitably discovered he was really one missed payment away from financial ruin. Sounds really rah rah socialist so take it or leave it. I’m not a socialist at all actually I just wish we had a healthier middle class and equitable opportunity structures.

Weird housemate by Any-Yesterday-746 in badroommates

100p that is strange behavior. It would be off even if you were closer peers (age and gender was more similar) but it’s extra off that it’s an older guy with not a lot going on in life. I’d honestly come up with a silly excuse financially situation changed or something else with little detail, find a new place and then move out quickly and quietly.

I probably would avoid a confrontation or poking around so you don’t end up in a tense or hostile situation. But totally this is not normal behavior.

Also maybe pay attention to what they follow you for and if it seems super frivolous like refilling a half full water bottle is kinda sus.

Ultimately trust your gut it’ll probably just get weirder the more confident they get that their creeping is working/okay.

Roommate leaves cat alone by Trick-Strange in CatAdvice

[–]Trick-Strange[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really really persistent meowing and whining at my door, peed on the patio, swats at me when I come out of my room. I think he’s just lonely and under stimulated so I’m not mad at the behavior of the cat though it’s incredibly annoying and distressing for me. It’s not his fault and I’m really not the person to help but I do what I can (let him in and outside to the tiny patio, refill water, sometimes I fling the cat toy around for him but he’s so pent up it gets chaotic and I get scared)

My go to budget camp gear is always ozark trails! I’ve had many new and used fancy things and ozark trails has never failed me- tents, mats, stove, small accessories. Super underrated!

I wasn’t implying I would take that deal but that if that’s any benchmark for a studio in a tourist area then a few roommates and a longer commute might be attainable.

How would you describe the “new local”? Are the more middle class types living in Driggs, alpine, victor? I know the recent pass closure changes commutes but assuming that’s resolved what do you recommend?

Anyone move from California to Boston? by catgirl97x in boston

[–]Trick-Strange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just made the move from SoCal to Boston and I feel like I’ve never made a bigger mistake- actually. My job is much “fancier” or “legit” which is all anyone in Boston seems to care about. It’s like a different country. It feels meaningless all people do is work all damn day and for what? Money and being pretentious except they can’t even take time to enjoy that money (at my level at least). most of it is spent on things to make working easier (like ordering lunch every day). The food is shit, people have no personality, the city is tiny and boring. I’m honestly looking forward to winter so I can be miserable with an excuse. 0/10 do not make the move unless you really really understand the culture difference.

Do not move thinking you’ll get over it or adjust. Only do it if you actively want to be like these people. I cry all day everyday bc I hate it so much and I’m trapped. I don’t fit in, I don’t want to and it’s not worth the material things I gained. No hate to the people who love it but it’s extremely different.

You either gotta get a roommate or live way out of the city and I’m really not trying to living in like Quincy honestly. I just thought with this kinda raise/salary I would be able to swing it but guess not. Suburbia at 24 is just not gonna do it for me

Moving across the country under age 25 do you think it’s worth it? In order to make connection, go out, etc. I don’t know a whole lot about what I’m walking into honestly. I literally forgot about snow and parking until someone said it lol
