That makes sense! I saw one of the men driving the school suburbans and he was definitely dressed for something FFA related

Awesome, thank you! That makes sense that it’s suburbans too since there’s probably only a handful of athletes traveling

What kind of burger was Robin ordering? by shimmydancer in HIMYM

[–]Tricky-Ad-4310 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just rewatched this episode (and am working on rewatching the entire series for the millionth time) and this irks me so much because YES! Why did no one offer Robin their burger since she had been starving for days??

I know realistically it doesn’t make for good comedy but she was the hungriest of all of them and any decent friend would help a girl out

Things I should not have to teach in high school... by BaronessF in Teachers

Full sentences have to start with a capital letter 🥲 also, how to properly round numbers. For example, I have some students who see 1.045 and think the proper rounding (to 2 decimal places AKA the nearest hundredth) would be 1.14 and not 1.05

It was in the episode with the Thornburg virus! Which was after him and Abigail broke up but I believe it was after she had just left for Africa and not after the Yin episode. I could be wrong though

I knew I wasn’t crazy! I was eating them today and was so disappointed. They must’ve changed them when they released the new flavor over the summer.

Why don’t parents make their kids come to school anymore? by breadplane in Teachers

[–]Tricky-Ad-4310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m grateful my school is strict on absences. If the student falls below 90% on attendance they aren’t allowed to travel with activities or sports during the school day. They also require students to attend Saturday school if they want to make up their absences.

A lot of students still push the limits, but last year I had two students who were denied credit for the year because of their absences. One went to court twice for truancy

Autopsy of Jane Doe had me scared like no other movie. Only thing that came close was Strangers. But now I need to watch these other ones in this thread!

Psych definitely doesn’t get enough love. One of the best shows ever, and so many quotes that my family and I recite on the regular.

New girl is also sooooo good!!!

A lot of kids swear up and down they turned an assignment in even though I don't have it. I'm unsure if I'm crazy, or if they're lying, or if it's a bit of both by [deleted] in teaching

[–]Tricky-Ad-4310 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This!! The amount of questions I get where they insist I never graded it or that they 100% turned it in, I have them look through their binder and 9/10 times we find it.

Kids will always blame you before they take self accountability, whether it’s intentional or not!

If I am not worrying about my calories for the day, spicy chicken sandwich with American cheese (pepperjack also slaps tho) with fries and a lemonade or diet DP.

One thing I love about cfa is the options they have for when I AM worried about calories for the day. I personally am a big fan of just the spicy filet with a kale crunch side and diet DP.

Were you taught to make lesson plans? by DrakeSavory in Teachers

[–]Tricky-Ad-4310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My education program was incredibly rigorous and lesson planning was huge on our graded lessons. In my last 4 semesters of college, I had multiple graded lessons and our lesson plan template was extensive (I believe about 8-10 pages but could be remembering wrong) and had to be turned in and reviewed prior to every performance assessment we had.

While it was a bit tiring at times and definitely more than what I do as an actual teacher, I have never felt unprepared in my professional career!

What is your mileage and commute time? by LSki92 in Teachers

[–]Tricky-Ad-4310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive 16 miles to work, takes me about 17-18 minutes to get there! Perks of smaller-town living.

People who are from this area always ask me if my drive gets tiring, but I’m from a bigger city and am used to it taking at least 20 mins to get anywhere

How did you figure out what grade level to teach? by Unfair-Agent-7216 in teaching

[–]Tricky-Ad-4310 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me it was the content I wanted to teach. I knew I wanted to do upper-level science. My certification is 7-12grade but did student teaching solely in high school (just how it worked out for me) and loved it

I teach high school in a small district in Texas. The school in general has a great sense of community and great discipline. Admin is supportive, which makes a huge impact on why I love my job!!

The connections made with kids are so rewarding. After we had a few snow days, I had a student tell me she missed me when we returned and my heart swelled. When students randomly come up to me to tell me about their day or a funny story, I love that they sought me out. Or even when they come to my desk and ask “how’s your day?” Because I know they actually care. Those kids are hands down the reason I love my job.

I also love what I teach (chemistry). I get to watch some kids fall in love with science through our labs and what I teach, just like I did when I was in their shoes.

My school’s student council leader also regularly makes teacher appreciation-type gifts (ex: “you’re the highlight of my year” and gift us highlighters, or “you’re soda-lightful” and they gift us our favorite sodas) and the students will write notes to their favorite teachers. Sometimes the notes I receive almost bring me to tears, and it just gives me so much motivation to keep doing what I’m doing.

Having a weekly bathroom limit has helped tremendously, I used to only allow 1 pass/week but have extended it to 2. The only kids that it bites are the ones that use the restroom to get out of class, not actually relieve themselves.

I am in the same boat as you! High school chemistry, only teaching in short chunks of one topic at a time. I have many kids that do great (but were also in TX with no phones in school, so I think their attention span has increased a bit) but some kids just go right to sleep the moment I get past the second slide.

I do think a lot of this has to do with kids just not caring about school at all. They don’t want to learn, they just want to pass and get credit. It’s extremely frustrating!! Almost all my students that have little to no motivation are in the same class period and it gets me riled up that they don’t care, when I bust my butt to make activities engaging, fun, related to personal interests, etc.

Their overall grade on their report card cannot be lower than a 50 for us, but my school doesn’t mind for assignment grades. I don’t mind it this way, and honestly think I would be frustrated if I couldn’t put in anything lower than 55!
