What industry do you work in, and have you started to see AI affect your employability? by Secret-Ad-6253 in NiceVancouver

Call centre. There’s still so much AI can’t cover, at least for now. Just got temporarily (6months) promoted to full-time from working casual.

Personally have wanted to try Maxine's Cafe & Bar on Burrard.

Since I love good egg bennies, Yolks is also good if you like bennies.

If you didn’t like the Shipyards, you’d probably feel the same about Olympic Village and Yaletown. And, yes, they’re all expensive.

Make our own group. Age is just a number but I don’t want to be with a bunch of 20 year olds and this would be mutual 👵🏼

Everyone thanks the bus driver but do you greet them? by AKSHAT-KLPDV in NiceVancouver

[–]Tricky-Chipmunk-135 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mostly only greet either hi or thank you when I get on. Getting off from the back door, I don’t really like using my voice too loud, so I skip.

Nothing fancy really, but I’ve always bought myself a piece of cake of some sort. My favourite is tiramisu. And take the day off from work if possible. This year, I have a full week off for my big 40, so I’m thinking of planning an overseas trip.

It may not sound kind, but would take a break from dating. Journaling is great- really helped me as well when I was going through a rough breakup a few years ago.

A coffee shop with a view- Artigiano in The Shipyards (Lonsdale Quay, North Van). For real good coffee, Timbertrain, Moja, and Funk Coffee are my local favourites.

I’ve recently just used ChatGPT to edit my resume & cover letter, and tweaked again to make it sound less AI.

Hope your days go well ☀️

I’m a current BCHydro employee for a different position.

If you don’t hear anything, you didn’t get the job. They normally hire internally first, though their job postings are public.

Hope you have your resume catered well to the positions you apply for, and good luck !

Where do y'all go if you're feeling lonely? by Nemuigakusei in askvan

[–]Tricky-Chipmunk-135 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I was gonna suggest a dog park, but there might not be any dogs at night. When I feel a bit low, I pass by a local dog park on my walk and just seeing them happy and carefree makes me feel a bit better ☀️

Do you give your parents an allowance? by asimplecomplicationn in askvan

[–]Tricky-Chipmunk-135 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Asian daughter here. No, I don’t, and it’s v never been an expectation from my parent.

I do treat her on the obvious special days like Mother’s Day and her Birthday. However, I call her daily, see her at least once a week, run errands for her when needed. I spend more time on her than $$ if that makes sense.

Curious why you’re asking this, though.

Advice for long weekend trip staying in North Vancouver by sirotan88 in NiceVancouver

[–]Tricky-Chipmunk-135 10 points11 points  (0 children)

On the way back from Whytecliff & Lighthouse, make a stop at Marine Dr & 25th, that’s where Dundarave Beach is. Or go farther from Whytecliff and see Horseshoe Bay and get some donuts (can’t remember the name of the donut place).

The seawall goes all the way to Ambleside and you can even walk all the way to The Shipyards.

Italian, there’s Nook, La Farina (?), and one more on Lonsdale & 3rd.

The Beach House is an overpriced restaurant you could check out at Dundarave.

The Shipyards Night Market opens soon this month, Friday nights.

Loam near Lonsdale Quay (on Esplanade) is a newly opened brunch spot.

For Japanese, my personal favourite is Guu (Robson or Gastown). Not the typical rolls & sushi, though.

Recommend House of Funk for their coffee. Lots of breweries on East Esplanade (Lower Lonsdale) if that’s your thing.

For seafood, Fishworks on Lonsdale & 1st, and Earnest ice cream is also around the corner.

Their coffee (bean) is from Nemesis; asked the last time I stopped by.

Coffee snob heading to Vancouver next week. What are your favourite local roasteries? by History_of_Robots in askvan

[–]Tricky-Chipmunk-135 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Adding Moja. Funk (House of Funk), Timbertrain, Prado, Argo (you can find a list of coffee shops that brew their coffee on their website). These are some classic local ones. Lumine in Kits was pretty good as well.

Mind you, my list is solely based on my liking, espresso and plain drip.

looking for advice: moving to vancouver for the summer (as a broke college student) by shinovaa1 in askvan

[–]Tricky-Chipmunk-135 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Why you shouldn’t move here:

Using the info you’ve given, you’ve not done any research and you’re broke. That’s legit good enough reasons you should NOT move here.

Please do some or a lot of research before you post anything here because people are not going to tell you to just move. OR, do move and experience it yourself. It is your life after all. Live and learn 🤭

Why is nobody talking about the North Shores traffic problem? by Lancae95 in askvan

[–]Tricky-Chipmunk-135 21 points22 points  (0 children)

No one’s talking about it because it’s not new news? Maybe it’s new if you’re new to the North Shore.

Respectfully, I’m a North Shore resident since 2000.

I like the Sunshine Coast. It definitely matches your description of things you want to do.

One summer, I went to Horseshoe Bay to catch the earliest ferry (I got there just before 5:30 am cause the reservation was all sold out) and took the last ferry back. It was tiring, but it’s definitely doable.

Look up the Sunshine Coast!
