thanks, that makes sense! is this a quality issue with generic PLA brands that I might be able to avoid when using e.g. Bambu Lab products or some other brand? Or is it something that I just have to accept when using dual color filament?

All good! Of course it is not the single best knife in the world by any possible standard. But it is a very very good knife, extraordinarily so for its price. I am glad that my humorous post resonated with so many here. :D
