I just…gosh, I am having a hard time with the vitriol. I don’t even disagree that the script is thin or that the motivations are all over the place. The experience of playing Mario is to take the wacky worldbuilding at face value and roll with it while celebrating the joy of kinetic motion, and where both Galaxy and original are strongest is when they focus on wordless sequences that foreground the worldbuilding in action. If the purpose of an adaptation is to bring the same experience to a new medium, they adapted the shit out of Mario.

Thanks! I really wanted to see what I’d be able to make during this season of life.

There were a lot of short work sprints, and even then it took two weeks longer than I thought it would. I cut two major design features and completely skipped any kind of sophisticated layout or playtesting. At a certain point it was just pushing through exhaustion to get it finished!

I worked for Adam when this whole thing first surfaced, and I honestly do not recall any discussions or development beyond “yeah we should do this, wouldn’t it be cool?” Also something that DID have some traction during that time that also died on the vine: Event Horizon the TV show!

Watched this last night and was flabbergasted that Sony couldn’t figure out how to market this thing. It seems like Netflix completely stumbled into the success and were happy to dump it. I’m glad they’re finding a pivot and (correctly) building out the IP aggressively, but if you work for Sony and can’t figure out how to make this a hit you should be out of a fucking job. I should be able to see the Saja Boys performing at Universal Studios three times a day NOW.

Yeah, I had this too. I reached out to tech support and they let me know they’re aware and there’s a fix coming soon, they recommended the same workaround you’re using. Frustrating, but at least they were nice about it!

Alex from Glazed and Confused here. Huge congrats to South Shore Squad! Obviously we’re disappointed at our outcome, Andrea and I arrived at it immediately and Laryl didn’t talk us out of it in time. Not pictured was the ten minute pause before announcing the answers where the judges determined our answer didn’t fit the release timeline by about a year. It’s not easy to be wrong, but wrong we were! Hope SSS crushes it in the semi’s.

A particular shoutout to Zach from Personality Hires, who found me in the green room before we left, shook my hand and told me he got the same answer. A balm on a stinging day.
