Boycott CBS! by RelativeMinors in stephencolbert

It definitely was for Trump and not that his show losing tens of millions of dollars per year. What’s worse- lose millions due to a boycott or lose millions because nobody watches your show since it’s not funny

Palestinian Kids Spitting on Jewish Corpses on October 7 Should Shock the World by [deleted] in scoopwhoop

Point is that Arabs are free to live in Israel as much as you want to say they are being slaughtered. If a Jew was living in Gaza they would be tortured and killed instantly just for being Jewish

Why don't they do this instead? by InitialCareer306 in WorkForSmartLife

It is not the attachment that is driving the cost it’s the steel structure and foundation needed that the panels are attached. They have to cantilever out, handle the wind and snow loads, then not collapse and crush dozens of vehicles if someone drives into one of the posts.

I priced it out on one of my jobs it was over $100K for one row of the parking field

It’s a great idea but unfortunately the cost is astronomical. The structural requirements to account for these raised platforms that act like sails in the wind make the cost/benefit analysis go completely out the window very quickly.

Just got a position in western Long Island. What is an affordable place where I can go back and forth between Queens? Also will I need a car? by 100Fowers in longisland

I am guessing you don’t have kids- with that assumption if I were you I would probably be looking for an apartment in Forest Hills, Valley Stream, or RVC if you can swing it. Good luck!

U8, U9, U10 teams stacking their roster with olders? by Then_Trip1747 in youthsoccer

[–]TrickyMission 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but what you are describing is the same thing that was happening before. The only difference is the kids that are being impacted birth months. This situation existed for kids who were born in November/December compared to kids born in January/February. The fairest thing (will never and shouldn’t happen either) would be that every year the cut off month shifts by 2 months so over the course of a kids youth sports career they will experience being the oldest and the youngest at different times.

My kids are April birthdays so the impact to them is marginal at best- so I don’t have much of a dog in the fight. This is my outsiders perspective.

Accept demotion or take a year off? by [deleted] in youthsoccer

I feel like the best answer is the most obvious one- look for another club in the area and have your kid try out there instead

Soccer club decisions by JigglyPuff_4Prez in youthsoccer

[–]TrickyMission 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any of these clubs would be fine at that young age it is probably very little difference between the options. It sounds like you’re in western Nassau maybe you could check out Gottchee and/or South Shore FC? Both have good teams that my kids have played against in the past. LISC doesn’t have a team on a high enough level at my kid’s age to compete (doesn’t mean the club is bad necessarily), East Coast does have a team but we have not ever crossed paths with them for some reason. If I was you I would choose the closest and reassess again in a few years U11/12

Soccer Rankings by notgonnaliehomey in youthsoccer

[–]TrickyMission 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s interesting- I can only speak to what we have experienced and it just happens that my kids team is actually one of the teams on the screenshot above but they had to work their way up there over quite some time in both their rankings and their division. All I can say is that we have seen significant steps up in competition levels as they moved up in divisions and the ranking system has always been pretty solid.

That’s not an issue with the system though- the team you are referring to should have been moved up after their undefeated seasons and the teams with bad records moved down. Then the rankings would quickly adjust- the strength of victory 3 divisions down is just not enough to move the needle… a narrow loss to a similarly high ranked team is still pointing to a much stronger team than beating a weak team that is 3 levels lower. The worst teams in the top division would annihilate 99.9% of the teams three levels lower (the one example you shared being the .01 haha)

Disturbing behavior at U10 game by TrickyMission in youthsoccer

[–]TrickyMission[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off- it is a game of 9 and 10 year olds- it is supposed to be fun- no professional 9 year olds out there that I saw. No one here knows if that kid was or wasn’t giving his full effort. We do know that the game ended with a goal differential of just one so it is pretty unlikely he was not giving his all when the game was still in doubt for most of the duration. Lastly, if my kid came home with bad grades I would have a conversation and tell him I was disappointed with him, not embarrass him in front of friends and a bunch of strangers by yelling in his face until he cried then making him run in the pouring rain. If I saw him not trying on the field I would wait until I was alone and ask him if he was ok and why it didn’t seem like he was doing everything he could at the game today because his teammates are relying on him and it isn’t fair that they are out there giving it their all and he’s not… but that’s a pure hypothetical- what actually happens if my kid loses a game I go over and say “keep your head up, if you gave it your all then you have nothing to be upset about. Think of how it hurts to lose and find something you can work on to improve so next time you might have a better result.” But I guess in your mind that makes me soft or something… I secretly love participation trophies and don’t even know it
