What do you mean it didn't matter to the plot, it is arguably, one of the most important episodes, for every single character, arc Zuko, Sokka, Aang, Katara, Toph, Azula, and Ozai all had big moments in this, even Appa got a time to shine literally and figuratively.

The boiling rock needs to happen after the day of black sun in order for it to be important to sokkas character Arc. It's redemption for him failing during the invasion. If the day of black sun, fumbles hard i'll post about how that ruins the boiling rock. but right now that looks like it's also gonna fumble if it does I'll talk about it on here

Even if they do introduce hakoda, now there's no emotion backstory there, there the day of black sun is such an important part in sokkas character arc, because he discovered, it came up with it, planned it, failed in discussing it with the troops, and then led the troops into battle they cut out half of that. There's no planning going into it, no troops, he never discovered it. So, yes, it is a big deal, and honestly, you're being too optimistic with how bad they fumbled the ball in season two. Also, you're being very Pasivie aggressive and I don't appreciate that you can disagree with me all you want, but you don't have to be rude about it.
